1. Ohanaeze announces burial date for late Obiozor

The National Executive Council, of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has announced dates for the burial of its late President-General, Amb George Obiozor.

Ohanaeze Secretary General, Okey Emuchay, who announced the burial arrangement on Friday, shortly after an emergency meeting of the NEC at the national secretariat of the organisation in Enugu, said the late Obiozor will be buried on Friday, February 10, 2023, in his home town in Awo-Omamma, Imo state.

Emuchay said there will be activities prior to the burial of the late president-general, including a valedictory session at the national secretariat and other activities at the National Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos and Abuja.

2. Customs redeploy spokesperson from HQ to Kirikiri Terminal

The spokesperson for the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Timi Bomodi, has been redeployed from the headquarters Abuja to head the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Lagos.

The spokesperson confirmed his own redeployment in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Saturday.

He said other officers were equally redeployed to different commands.

Bomodi expressed his determination to work towards the enhancement of the service in his new posting.

3. Griezmann shines as Atletico thrash Valladolid 3-0

Atletico Madrid produced one of their best performances of the season to thrash Real Valladolid 3-0 on Saturday, with Memphis Depay making his debut.

The Dutch forward, signed from Barcelona on Friday, came off the bench in the second half but by then Antoine Griezmann’s virtuoso display had the hosts in full control at the Metropolitano.

The French forward produced a sublime assist for Alvaro Morata to open the scoring and then struck the second himself.

Mario Hermoso netted the third from the rebound after his header from Griezmann’s free-kick was parried back into his path.

4. Atiku pledges improved security, development if elected

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to improve security and expedite action on infrastructural development nation wide.

Atiku made the promise while addressing a crowd of party supporters, in Minna, the Niger State Capital during the PDP Presidential campaign rally, on Saturday.

While expressing gratitude to the people of the state for their support for the PDP over the years, the candidate said now that the people have experienced live as citizens under the PDP and the All Progressives Congress which deceived them, they are now better positioned to vote wisely.

He said, “We want to appreciate the people of Niger for their support since we came to the state, may God bless you all. We pray that God bring peace to the state.

5. Wike donates N200 million to Ariaria traders

Gov Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, has donated a whopping N200 million largesse to traders affected by the on-going remodelling works at the Ariaria International Market, Aba, Abia State.

This was disclosed yesterday by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu during while inspecting the progress of works at the A-Line section of the market.

He explained that his Rivers State counterpart expressed his sympathy and support to the traders who were displaced as a result of the ongoing work.

6. Serie A: Osimhen on target as Napoli beat Salernitana

Napoli further extended their grip on the Serie A title race on Saturday by beating local rivals Salernitana 2-0 to temporarily move 12 points ahead of the chasing pack.

Goals from Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Victor Osimhen immediately either side of half-time made sure that Napoli will be at least nine points clear at the halfway point of the season after a straight-forward win in soaking Salerno

Luciano Spalletti’s side now have to wait until their closest rivals AC Milan take on Champions League-chasing Lazio in Rome on Tuesday to know just how far in front they will be after collecting 50 points in 19 matches.

Inter Milan are a further point behind their local rivals and will move provisionally into second place if they beat Empoli on Monday.
