1. New naira notes scarcity grounds activities in Anambra
Ahead of the January 31 deadline for the discontinuation of the old naira notes, Anambra residents have besieged banks and markets across major cities of the region.
Our correspondent who went round major cities of Onitsha, Obosi, Nnewi and some parts of Awka, on Saturday, observed that the scarcity of the redesigned naira notes forced most traders to lock shops in a bid to avoid collecting the old notes, which were still largely in circulation.
Those who opened for business witnessed little or no patronage as they refused to collect the old naira notes.
2. Naira redesign will curb kidnapping —CBN
The Central Bank of Nigeria has said the redesigned notes will solve the challenge of insecurity, especially kidnapping in North-West, Nigeria.
Speaking during an interview with journalists, CBN’s Director, Development Finance, Philip Yila, who was represented by Aliyu Ashiru, explained that the policy would ensure sanity in the system.
The team before swapping old notes for residents visited traditional rulers namely; Lamido Akko in Akko Local Government Area, Mai Banganje and the District Head of Tanglan in Billiri LGA.
3. Martinez brace fires Inter to second in Serie A
Lautaro Martinez shot Inter Milan into second place in Serie A with both goals in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Cremonese who are still yet to win a league game this season.
Argentina striker Martinez made sure Inter bounced back from losing to Empoli last Sunday and David Okereke’s 11th-minute wonder strike with goals in each half at the Stadio Giovanni Zini in Cremona.

4. Tinubu, uncommon legend, says Tunji Bello
Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Olatunji Bello, has described the party’s presidential flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as an uncommon legend, and God’s unusual gift to Nigeria, whose type do not often come in generations.
Addressing the teeming mass of the Mainland Independent Network, a campaign group for the actualisation of Tinubu’s presidency, in Lagos, Bello urged progress-loving Nigerians to strive at all cost, to ensure that his uncommon endowments do not elude the nation.
He said particularly for the sake of the poor and the down-trodden, which has been the cornerstone of Tinubu’s political philosophy and age-long struggle over the years.
5. Why Ikpeazu did not attend PDP campaign event in Enugu
Director of Strategic Engagement, Abia PDP Campaign Council, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, has given reason the Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu did not attend PDP campaign event in Enugu.
Listing his reasons in a statement he sent to Vanguard Okiyi said: “Take note that the Enugu event qualifies as a “campaign activity” but Governor Ikpeazu is still a principled member of the G5 and a leader in the PDP. He will continue to attend programs, within and outside the state, that are not campaign related.
“Governor Ikpeazu in particular, every well-meaning member of our political family (PDP) and, indeed, Abians in general are not in any mood for any political gathering at this point in time. However, the governor and government officials are free to attend other events that are not campaign related.”
6. Scores injured as APC, PDP thugs clash in Lagos
Scores of persons were injured Friday, in Aiyetoro, Surulere area of Lagos, during a clash between suspected thugs of the All Progressive Party and the Peoples Democratic Party.
A video that went viral on social media revealed that thugs from both sides engaged themselves in a gun battle.
But members of one group overwhelmed the other.
Vehicles were seen hurriedly making U-turns while shop owners hid to avoid being hit by stray bullets.
