1. Youths top voting population for February polls – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that youths constitute the highest number of registered voters who will cast votes in the 2023 general election.
The National Commissioner of INEC in charge of Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye, stated this in Awka, on Saturday, during the Commission’s engagement with identified groups on the roles of the youth ahead of the 2023 general election.
Okoye said from the electoral umpire’s records, the youth hold the ace for the determination of the outcome of the 2023 elections.
He said out of a total of 9,518,756 valid newly registered voters between June 28, 2021, and July 31, 2022, those aged between 18 and 34 years old were 7,286,871 representing 76.56 per cent.
2. Govt responsible for poor education – Clerics
Christian leaders in Ogun State have blamed the government on the poor standard of education in the country .
The religious leaders declared that the standard of education started falling from the moment government took over the schools from the original owners.
Speaking on behalf of other clerics, the Bishop of Egba Anglican Communion, Emmanuel Adekunle, stated this at a news conference to commemorate the 180th celebration of the coming of Christian missionaries to Abeokuta, who brought the gospel to the ancient city.
The bishop, however, advised the government to return the schools to the original owners to salvage the sector.
3. La Liga: Chukwueze’s Villareal beat Madrid 2-1

Archbishop Emeritus and Dean of the Anglican Communion, Maxwell Anikwenwa, has tasked every Nigerian to exercise their franchise and vote in capable leaders and turn the nation around positively.
The cleric made the call on Saturday during the dedication of Our Saviour’s Church, Awka, Anambra State, by the Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger, Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim.
Anikwenwa said that voting was an important part of any democracy and only the citizens’ vote could ensure that quality leaders were elected into office.

5. 2023: Tinubu inaugurates APC South-West campaign office in Akure
The Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Saturday in inaugurated his South-West campaign office in Akure.
Tinubu was led to the campaign office by the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu and State Chairman of the APC, Mr Ade Adetimehin.
Tinubu, while inaugurating the campaign office immediately after the APC Presidential Campaign rally at the MKO Abiola Democracy Park, said Akeredolu had demonstrated serious commitment to progressive politics.
“This is a serious demonstration of commitment to progressive politics, to democratic principle that we adopted as the hallmark of our own political philosophy.
6. Peter Obi heartless for saving money instead of people – Tinubu
The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu has described his counterpart in the Labour Party, Peter Obi as a stingy man who boasts of saving money while his people starving.
Tinubu made the remarks while speaking during the Ondo state rally at Democracy Park, Akure, the state capital.
Tinubu said his vision for the country can only be harvested by progressive and democratic governance, which according to him Obi cannot do.
Tinubu’s words: “He [Obi] cares little that his policies and actions have a chance to show how progressive he could be when he was the governor of Anambra State. All he could do was boast that he saved money – I don’t know how much.

7. Akpabio receives 250 support groups for Tinubu
National Vice Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has received 250 support groups for the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The groups, which paid Akpabio a visit in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, pledged to ensure victory for the party at all levels in the forthcoming general election.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Jackson Udom, quoted the former Senate Minority Leader while receiving the groups in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state as saying: ” I am highly elated with these groups.
8. Oyo PDP united for Atiku, says ex-lawmaker Olasupo
Former representative of Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola and Iwajowa federal constituency Hon. Olasupo Abiodun has assured the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State is united in support of the presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
He said all candidates of the party, including its presidential candidate will enjoy support of PDP members in the State.
Speaking in Ibadan while featuring on a live radio programme, Olasupo said: “PDP in Oyo State is in support of Atiku. As party members, we are in support of all candidates of our party. We are talking of Oyo State, Makinde has done everything we want, my community is an example.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has described his major opponents as those that cannot be trusted with the future of Nigerians.

10. Ondo: Police nab suspected kidnapper of six-year-old girl at POS stand
A suspect, Tochukwu Nworih, alleged to be a member of a kidnapping syndicate, has been arrested by police operatives in Ondo State.
The suspect was said to have been involved in the abduction of a six-year-old girl in her mother’s vehicle.
Nworih and his gang were accused of kidnapping the girl while her mother was buying some groceries.
The suspect was nabbed by detectives while trying to withdraw his share of the ransom at a Point of Sales terminal, PoS, in Akure, the state capital.
According to the police spokesperson in the state, SP Funmi Odunlami, the victim’s mother, Mrs Chukwu-Ezedima, who met an empty car reported the incident to the police after all efforts to locate the daughter yielded no results.
