1. Osun poll: EFCC arrests suspected vote buyers

Three persons have been arrested by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission for alleged vote-buying.

The suspects are Jimoh Kazeem, Adeyemo Bahir, and Abidogun Ismail.

They were arrested at Polling Unit 002, Ward 2, Ababu, Isale Osun, Osogbo.

Meanwhile, CLEEN Foundation alleged that security agents deployed for Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State, looked the other way while political party agents openly buy votes for as low as N3,000.

2. Adeleke defeats Oyetola in polling unit

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke, won his polling unit in the ongoing governorship election in the state.

He polled 218 votes to defeat his main contender, Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress.

Oyetola scored 23 votes while Dr Akin Ogunbiyi of the Accord party had one vote.

Also, All Progressives Congress won elections in the polling units of Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola, his deputy, Benedict Alabi, and Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.

3. APC wins Oyetola, Aregbesola’s polling units

The All Progressives Congress won elections in the polling units of Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola, his deputy, Benedict Alabi, and Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.

In Oyetola’s polling unit situated at ward 1, LA school, Popo, Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government Area, APC got 545 votes to defeat its closest rival, Ademola Adeleke of Peoples Democratic Party, who had 69 votes.

APC also won Aregbesola’s polling unit situated at Ward 8, unit 1, Isare Ifofin, Ilesa East Local Government Area of Osun State in Saturday’s election.

The ruling party secured 164 votes while PDP trailed with 134 votes.

4. Osun Election: Political parties violated Electoral Act in 14 LGAs, CDD alleges

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) on Saturday, said its 300 accredited observers who collected data on key aspects of the governorship election in Osun state observed violations of the Electoral Act by political parties and their agents in 14 Local Government Areas.

The Centre alleged that the parties continued campaigning, and canvassing for votes in close proximity to the polling unit in LGAs during voting while officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission looked the other way when the abuses occurred.

According to the first preliminary briefing on the election by CDD, the acts which contravene the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 were mostly reported in Ife Central, Odo Otin, Osogbo, Oriade and Irepodun.

Also, the organisation said it documented claims and counter-claims by political actors over allegations of vote buying.

5. 13 youth groups reject Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate

13 Youth groups from the six geo-political zones in the country including the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), have rejected the choice of former Borno State governor, Mallam Kashim Shettima Mustapha as the All Progressives Congress, APC Vice Presidential candidate to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu saying Shettima was unacceptable to the over 30 million youths of the country.

The youth groups in a letter to Tinubu also declared that after months of consultations and interaction across ethnic and religious divides,it was agreed that  it would be in the interest of the youths to present to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the APC, Dr Ibrahim Bello Dauda also known as EL-DABI the party’s presidential running mate.

The Youth groups were made up of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ex-Militant Generals in Niger Delta, National Association of University Students, (NAUS), National Association of Polytechnic Students, (NAPS), National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) and All Farmers Progressive Association (AFPA).

Others include the Yoruba General Assembly (YGA), the Coalition of Northern Christian Youth Groups, The EL-DABI Grassroot Mobilization Movement, The EL-DABI Support Groups, EL-DABI Women Support Network and other Numerous Youth and Women Support Groups for EL-DABI in all the 774 Local Government areas of Nigeria, including EL-DABI professionals in politics who have endorsed EL-DABI.

6. APGA, SDP chairmen say competence, not religion should matter to Nigerians

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, national chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Oye has advised Nigerians to settle for a team capable of changing the governance narratives of the country.

This is even as he stated that the religious disposition of the President and Vice President of Nigeria needs is not as important as their capacity to deliver good governance when elected.

Oye gave the advice against the backdrop of diverse commentaries elicited by the choice of Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno state as running mate to All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Like Tinubu, Shettima is a practicing Muslim.

7. Osun 2022: INEC sets up room for central collation as results trickle in

The Independent National electoral commission (INEC) is currently setting up the central collation centre at the state headquarters for results to be announced.

The final collation of result is expected to take place at the State Collation Centre, INEC office situated in Osogbo.

As at time of report, The Nation observed different media outlets, journalists were setting up at the centre.

9. 2023 election: ‘Nigerians should look beyond religion’ – Tinubu explains Shettima’s selection

All Progressives Congress (APC), 2023 presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, has given further insight into why he selected Kashim Shettima as running mate.

The former Borno State governor is the Senator representing the state’s central district in the national assembly.

On Saturday in Abuja, Tinubu met with Speakers of states governed by the APC led by Hon. Mudashiru Obasa of Lagos.

The lawmakers visited the standard bearer to congratulate him on his victory at the June special convention.

Tinubu commended the Speakers for the roles they played ahead of his emergence.

10. Flood wreaks havoc in Bauchi communities, washes away 100 houses, farmlands

Flood has wreaked havoc in 13 communities in Darazo Headquarters of Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

DAILY POST learned that the flood washed away over 100 houses in Darazo town and rendered hundreds of people homeless.

The Acting Director General who is overseeing the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (BASEMA), Alhaji Bala Yakubu Lame, confirmed the incident on Saturday in Bauchi while answering questions from reporters.

He also stated that emergency officials will visit the town on Sunday to ascertain the extent of damage done to the communities of the area in order to assist them.

Member representing Darazo Constituency in the State House of Assembly Kawuwa Shehu Damina, said the flood destroyed properties valued at millions of Naira.
