1. Why wife burnt my son – Bolutife’s mother
Mrs Boladale Bamidele, the mother of Bolutife, a Cairo-based man burnt to death by his wife, Ifeoluwa, in Koka, Osun state, on Saturday, said jealousy must have made his son’s wife to set him ablaze.
Ifeoluwa had on Sunday, July 17 set ablaze Bolutife in their Koka, Osun state home, having suspected him of having an extramarital affair, leaving him seriously injured while she fled the scene.
Bolutife eventually gave up the ghost at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo state, as police launched a manhunt for Ifeoluwa, who also died last Thursday after taking a poisonous substance.
But speaking to newsmen on Saturday, the grieving mother, who said Bolutife was her last child, said Ifeoluwa usually check through her husband’s phone.
2. Delta 2023: We have governorship candidate, PDP insists
The Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday insisted that its party has a valid governorship candidate in Delta State for the 2023 governorship, adding that followed all due process to ensure its participation during next year’s election in the state.
The party clarified that contrary to speculations in a section of the social media, the PDP never disobeyed court orders regarding its governorship in the state.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, made the clarification in a statement on Saturday titled, ‘2023: PDP has valid governorship candidate in Delta State’.
The statement read, “In line with the new Electoral Act, submission of names of candidates is no longer physical but by electronic transmission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Under the electronic process, INEC grants access to its portal to political parties to electronically upload its candidates’ information/particulars; which access for governorship candidates closed on Friday, July 15, 2022.
3. ‘You’re seventh time aspirant’, Obi’s group mocks Atiku
For his scathing comments against the presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, a former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday, incurred the wrath of the Peter Obi Support Network, which mocked him as “seventh time presidential aspirant.”
Atiku, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, had, during an interview with Arise TV News, said Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, could not win the 2023 presidential election because the Labour Party did not have any governor elected on its platform and did not have National Assembly members
But the POSN in a statement by its spokesperson, Sani Altukry, titled, ‘Atiku Abubakar takes Nigerian masses for granted’, said Atiku in the “recorded interview”, gave unsolicited and clearly erroneous political consultancy on who could win elections and who could not win.

4. 2023 Presidency: Over 35,000 Nasarawa residents receive Peter Obi
Ahead of the 2023 general elections, over 35,000 residents of Nasarawa state Saturday rolled out their drums in support of the presidential candidature of the Labour party, Peter Obi.
Speaking to Journalists during a town hall meeting with stakeholders and leaders of various support groups of Peter Obi in Lafia, the State Chairman of the party, Alexander Emmanuel said the people of the state were tired with the misrule of the All Progressives Congress led government both at the national and state levels which was why they decided to support the Labour party in 2023.
Emmanuel explained that the 35,000 supporters of the party were members of 27 registered support groups across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state who were on partnership with the support of the party
5. Stripped workers: Okowa’s spokesman, Ifeajika blasts Gbagi
CHIEF Press Secretary to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Mr Olisa Ifeajika has urged former Minister of State for Education, Chief Kenneth Gbagi seek God and redeem himself from the court of public opinion rather than blame others for his self inflicted ordeals.
Ifeajika who was reacting to recent allegations by the former minister, where he alleged that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his wife, Dame Edith Okowa influenced the recent State High Court judgement that found him guilty of violation of fundamental human rights of his former employees, described the allegation as the lamentations of a drowning man.
The court presided by Justice Vera Agbodje found Gbagi, a former junior minister in the Federal Ministry of Education, guilty of the allegation that he stripped naked, four of his workers – three females and a male in his hotel in Effurun, Delta State.
Addressing Journalists in Asaba, the governor’s spokesman, said that Gbagi’s allegation were overtly malicious and a blackmail.

A traditionalist, the Obalesu Obatala Agbaye, Olaolu Dada, has said that a pan-Yoruba group, “Irorun Ile Kaaro-oo-jiire” will explore its spiritual powers to provide adequate security of lives and property of Nigerians.
Dada stated this at a news conference at Obatala temple in Igbotapa area of Ile-Ife on Saturday.
He expressed concerned over what he called rising insecurity in the country, adding that no day could pass without reports of kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery and other forms of insecurity.

7. Untold story of Osun lady who burnt Cairo-based lover to death, committed suicide
Residents of Koka, a community in Obokun Local Government Area, Osun State, are yet to come to terms with the tragic end of a nine-year-old romance between a Cairo-based businessman, Bolu Bamidele and his lover, Ifeoluwa Akanji.
Alleged infidelity by one of the two lovers resulted in an acrimony that culminated in the death of the two lovers with Ifeoluwa taking her own life after burning Bolu to death.
Findings made by The Nation revealed that love birds had been in a relationship since 2014 when Bolu was studying Mass Communication at the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State. They kept the bond until they had their introduction ceremony on October 4, 2021.
8. 20-year-old wife stabs husband to death in Adamawa
A young housewife in Adamawa State has stabbed her husband to death over his ‘drinking habit and irresponsible behaviours.’
The wife, Caroline Barka, 20 years old, drove a knife into her 38-year-old husband, Barka Dauda, after he returned home in a drunken state and fell over their sleeping one-year-old child, a source close to the family revealed on Saturday.
Caroline Barka, a resident of Angwan Tamiya in Madagali local government area, was said to have engaged her late husband in a fight when the deceased returned home drunk and fell on their one-year old baby who was in bed.
“Angered by his drunkenness, habitual late nights and failure to provide basic necessity as a husband, the suspect and the deceased had a fight which resulted to her stabbing the husband, as a result of which he fell down and became unconscious,” the family source explained.

Northern Governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have denied rumours that they are not happy with presidential candidate Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s choice of Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the coming 2023 presidential election.
This comes amid rumours the APC Northern Governors are not in support of the choice of Shettima, former Governor of Borno State as Tinubu’s running mate.
The governors said they support the choice of Shettima because he is also a former governor.
Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, in his interview with BBC Hausa Service, said they are in support of his selection and will work harder to ensure APC emerges victorious in the 2023 elections.
10. Casualties as Biafra group clashes with Cameroonian soldiers
Five members of the Rapid d’intervention Battalion (BIR), a Cameroonian military unit, have been reportedly killed by separatists suspected to be militant members of the Biafra Nations League, BnL.
The personnel of a CameroonIan military unit were said to have invaded the camp of the Biafra group on Saturday morning.
Reports say that men of the BIR, before invading the camp, took down two wooden poles with Biafran flags at about two kilometers away from the separatist camp as at 9 o’clock in the morning in Isangele but were swiftly resisted by the separatist militants.
The separatist militants were said to have first opened fire on the soldiers and killed five officers while it lost one man.
