1. Katsina: Police constable finds $800, returns to owner

A Police Constable, Nura Mande, has returned the $800 he found while on special duty at the Hajj camp, Katsina, to its owner, Hajiya Hadiza Chamiya.

Chamiya, 65, is one of intending pilgrims from the state for this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

The spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, Gambo Isah, said the police Constable found the money at about 12.30am on Thursday, June 23, 2022, within the premises of the Hajj camp.

Isah said, “The honest, hardworking and dedicated police officer found and returned the $800, equivalent (to about N330,000) to the owner, one Hajiya Hadiza Usman Chamiya, 65, of Kusada Local Government Area, Katsina State.”

2. Buhari, Tinubu hail Gbajabiamila’s performance

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has urged the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, to remain patriotic to Nigeria as he has always shown.

This is just as the National Leader and presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, said Nigeria is a complex country that Gbajabiamila has to navigate through.

Buhari and Tinubu said these on Saturday at a special prayer session at the Ansar-Ud-Deen central Mosque, Wuse 2, Abuja, which was organised in honour of the Speaker to mark his 60th birthday, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi.

According to the statement titled ‘60th birthday: Continue to Serve Nigeria, Says Buhari…Gbajabiamila Remains a Patriotic Nigerian – Tinubu,’ the President urged the Speaker to continue to serve the country in every way possible.

3. Kumuyi launches empowerment programme for youths

The Deeper Christian Life Ministry on Saturday launched an empowerment programme, Young Eagles Soaring, to train the youths in the country in professional skills.

The Programme attended by thousands of youths who cut across the religious lines was flagged off by the Superintendent of the Church, Pastor Williams Kumuyi, at the Deeper Life Camp ground, Eyenkorin in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

According to the church, the programme involved teenagers, students, Corps members and young adults.

Kumuyi who was in the state for a 7-day crusade said that his mission was meant to be a blessing under special supernatural deliverance for everyone through Christ.

4. Tinubu’s running-mate: Dogara is most qualified, committed — Coalition tells APC

Ahead of the 2023  Presidential election, the Coalition for Peace and Progress has thrown its weight behind former Speaker of the House of Representatives,Rt. Hon .Yakubu Dogara,insisting that he is the most qualified and committed to be the running mate of the Presidential candidate of the All progressives Congress(APC).

Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Saturday, the National Coordinator of the Coalition, Dr. Muhammad Chindo, said in other to ensure sense of fairness and belonging, it is pertinent that the person to be picked as APC Presidential running mate must be someone who has the required qualities and political experience such as Rt. Hon. Dogara.

According to him,” it is important that the future Vice President  must be a Christain that can transcend primordial sentiments bordering on religion and the twin evil of tribalism and sectionalism,” he said.

” We  have unanimously come to the conclusion that the best person most suited to hold the position of the future Vice President under the APC, is none other than the Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogora, former Speaker of the Federal House of Representative of Nigeria.”

5. Flood washes away 30 shops in Anambra market

Some traders at the Relief Market in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra are counting their losses as flood occasioned by heavy rainfall, washed away shops, electric poles and cables in the market.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the market, Mr David Obidike, disclosed this during a tour of the affected areas, while taking members of his executive and newsmen round the portions on Saturday.

“On one of the nights few days ago, the Chief Security Officer of the market called me and told me that devastating flood from Awada Area, has carried the market as the flood entered under the Sakamori (drainage) system in the market and uprooted it, thereby wrecking havoc in the market.

“The damage was much, about 10 shops were washed away with the wares in them, the electric armoured cables, big water borne pipe and telephone cables buried underground were all exhumed and damaged by the flood.

6. Ekweremadu: I would do anything for my children — Reno Omokri

Activist, entrepreneur and author, Reno Omokri, has said he would do anything legally possible to save his children’s lives if the need arises.

In apparent reference to the predicament of the former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice, Omokri said he would not hesitate to do the needful “including paying a willing adult to donate”.

The former aide to ex-President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, made his points in a series of tweets, where he also tweeted a video of himself and lookalike daughter in a boat on the Pacific Ocean.

7. Group seeks support for anti-drug abuse efforts

The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has urged Nigerians to support efforts meant to curb drug and substance abuse among youths.

The National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, made the call on Saturday in Enugu while speaking with newsmen on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as World Drug Day, is celebrated on June 26 annually, to raise awareness and strengthen efforts to check drug and substance abuse.

Amaraizu said that drug and substance abuse remained an ill-wind that blows no good, adding that all `stakeholders are enjoined to raise the awareness’.

“We should join hands to ensure that drug and substance abuse ravaging fabrics of the society is addressed.

8. Voter registration will be extended, says INEC chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians that the ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR) would not end on June 30, 2022 as earlier announced.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this on Saturday during the Youth Vote Count Mega Concert 2.0 organised by the commission in partnership with Yiaga Africa and funded by the European Union at the old parade ground, Abuja.

Yakubu, who was silent on the duration of the extension, said the commission would decide on the timeframe and communicate the outcome to Nigerians.

He said: “The second thing is you want to know when will this registration end? Is it going to end on the 30th of June in the next five days? On behalf of INEC, let me assure you, e no go end for 30th June for as long as we have you people trying to register to obtain your Permanent Voter Card (PVC), we will continue to register you and we will continue to make sure that you get your PVC.”

9. Five dead, three injured as car rams into truck in Ogun

Five persons have died in an auto crash along the Abeokuta-Sagamu highway in Ogun State, DAILY POST reports.

Three other persons were also said to have sustained injuries in the accident which occurred at about 4:31 pm on Saturday.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said a Mazda car marked KRD975HJ had rammed into a Howo Sino truck with registration number, T-14214LA.

Ogun FRSC spokesperson, Florence Okpe, said eight persons were involved, comprising two male adults and six female adults.

“Five persons were recorded dead (four female adults and one male adult), while three persons were injured (two female adults and one male adult),” Okpe said.

She explained that the injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Abeokuta for medical attention, saying the corpses were also deposited at the same hospital.

10. Kidnappers abduct man in Peter Obi’s community, put him in car booth

Kidnappers operating in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State on Saturday kidnapped an unidentified man.

The man was said to have been kidnapped at Nwanchi village in Agulu, the community of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.

The victim was put in the trunk of his car, a Lexus ES350 saloon, but was later rescued by police operatives who were tipped off about the incident.

Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga said: “Police operatives at about 4 pm, today 25/6/2022 rescued an abducted victim and recovered one Lexus 350 Saloon with Reg. Nos. EPE 316 HE and Ford SUV with Reg Nos. GGE 769 FT along Ezinifite road, Aguata LGA.”

He further stated that: “The victim was abducted in the early hours of today at Nwanchi village, Agulu. The abductors forced the victim inside the booth of his Lexus and took off.
