1. Tinubu, Osinbajo, others arrive Presidential Villa for meeting with Buhari

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is currently meeting with Presidential aspirants of the All Progressives Congress, at the State House, Abuja.

Buhari, who returned from an ECOWAS extraordinary summit hours ago, will be meeting at least 23 recognised Presidential hopefuls.

They include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Bola Tinubu, Governors Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Goodwill Akpabio, former transport minister, Rotimi Amaechi, amongst others.

With barely 48 hours until the Presidential Primary elections of the APC, the meeting would, among other things, centre on the choice of a consensus candidate.

2. APC makes a U-turn, says no aspirant disqualified

The All Progressives Congress on Saturday denied disqualifying 10 presidential aspirants.

The clarification was made by the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, when he addressed newsmen at the party secretariat in Abuja.

The screening report of the John Odigie-Oyegun-led committee had caused panic in the camps of the 23 aspirants.

The suspense was further heightened when the party and Oyegun kept mum on the 13 cleared aspirants.

While dousing the tension that was created following the submission of the screening report, Adamu disclosed that the 13 aspirants being touted as the successful candidates were only recommended as first-class materials.

“I want to say very clearly that no aspirant has been disqualified. It’s like sitting in an exam. Even if you pass there is grading from first-class to ordinary pass.

3. Blasphemy: Police reveal Abuja victim’s identity, begin probe

The Nigeria Police Force Federal Capital Territory Command has said that it is investigating the blasphemous killing that occurred on Saturday in the Lugbe area of Abuja.

This is as the law enforcement agency identified the victim as Ahmad Usman who was said to be a 30-year-old man.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development to our correspondent on Saturday, adding that the command has commenced investigation into the killing.

She said, “Normalcy has since been restored to the area concerning the situation while monitoring, and surveillance of the area continues.

4. Tinubu: It’s your personal opinion, NWC member fires back at Adamu

Following threats by the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu to sanction a national leader of the party over remarks considered uncomplimentary against President Muhammadu Buhari, a member of the party’s National Working Committee NWC has said Adamu’s position is not that of the NWC.

Adamu had on Saturday voiced strong concerns about Tinubu’s outbursts on how he had helped President Muhammadu Buhari to power.

National Vice Chairman, Northwest, of the APC, Salihu Moh. Lukman in his reaction said while Adamu has a fight to his personal opinion, he cannot however force down his opinion on other members of the NWC and pass it as the position of the party.

5. Buhari’s senior aide, Ya’u Darazo defends Tinubu, blames opposition for stoking fire

The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Special Duties, Mallam Ya’u Darazo, has risen in defence of former Lagos State governor and presidential aspirant in the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over statements credited to the latter that was perceived as insulting to the president.

Darazo who was present in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, where Tinubu addressed party faithful alongside the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun said the statement was taken out of context to embarrass Tinubu and create disaffection between him and President Buhari.

The Presidential aide who said he wrote the statement in his personal capacity and as a member of the Tinubu Campaign Organization, said he was convinced that President Buhari can see through the mischief having been a victim of misresprentation and character assassination himself in the past. He noted that the motive of those promoting the narrative that Tinubu insulted Buhari was to destroy the warm relationship between them.

He said; “In the last 48 hours or so, the media space has been polluted by the odious breath of mischief makers – nay ingrates who mispresented Asiwaju’s speech with the sole aim of planting discord between him and President Muhammadu Buhari. In their mischievous minds, that would earn them added advantage in the primaries for the Ticket of the APC.

6. Bandits kidnap 14 locals in Kaduna community

Bandits on Saturday struck at the Iri Station community near Idon in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State where they kidnapped 14 locals.

Although the police were yet to react, Supervisory Councillor of Admin, Finance and Health in Kajuru Local Government Council, Bala Jonathan said those kidnapped were  Abdullahi, Yakubu Isah, Samson Julius, Angelina Julius, Pasema Daniel, Junior,Bobo Julius, Saratu Mohammed, Asenath Sunday, Confidence Jerry, Barnaki Sunday, Moses Kenneth, Danladi Goma and Ummi Jibrin.

“These are the names of abducted persons in Iri Station which we have discovered for now. The sad event happened in the early hours of today, June 4, 2022”, he said.

He said some of their people earlier kidnapped were still in.captivity because their relations were not been able to raise the ransom demanded by the bandits.

7. 11 APC Govs tell Buhari to cede power to South

Ahead of their party’s presidential primaries, 11 Governors and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to concede power to the South in 2023.

They asked Buhari to limit his search for a successor as the APC’s presidential candidate to the South.

They said power shift to the South will be in the interest of building a stronger, more united and more progressive country.

Based on their advisory, Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State has withdrawn from presidential race.

The Governors and leaders made their position known in a communique at the end of a meeting in Abuja.

8. FG explains dip in electricity generation

The Federal Government has explained the reason for the current dip in electricity generation.

The situation, it said, was due to “partial shutdown of the Oben gas plant to address the repair of critical gas processing equipment.”

A statement by the Special Assistant Media Affairs to the Minister of Power, Malam Isa Sanusi, regretted the incidence occurred at a time when other power plants on other gas sources are undergoing planned maintenance and capacity testing.

9. Alimikhena wins PDP senatorial ticket for Edo North, faces APC’s Oshiomhole

Senator Francis Alimikhena has been elected as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Edo North in the 2023 election.

Alimikhena won at the party primary held on Saturday, in Auchi, having polled 181 votes to win the ticket.

The primary followed the withdrawal of the winner, Victoria Edelokun, from May 23, 2022 exercise, from the race for personal reasons.

It will be recalled that Senator Alimikhena recently defected to PDP after withdrawing his membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the state.

Alimikhena will now slug it out with Adam Oshiomhole, a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who is the party’s flag bearer in 2023.

10. Retired Police DIG, Israel Ajao is dead

A retired Nigeria Police Deputy Inspector-General, Israel Ajao, is dead.

The former senior officer passed away on Friday at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

Ajao, who hailed from Oluponna in Osun, was the pioneer Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Intelligence Unit.

He served as the DIG in charge of Force Criminal Investigations and later Operations before retiring in 2010.

Ajao advanced the community policing agenda and held think-tank positions including the Board Chairman, Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps.

He was an alumnus of the University of Ibadan (UI) and the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru near Jos.

A statement on Saturday by Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi said Ajao “will be greatly missed in the gathering of the nation’s eggheads”.
