1. Adeleke inconsistent over university of Ilesa, APC alleges
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has accused the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, of being inconsistent regarding the take-off of the recently established University of Ilesa.
Osun APC was reacting to the assurance given by the governor on Friday after an on-the-spot assessment of the facilities at the upgraded College of Education, Ilesa.
Adeleke had assured that the University of Ilesa had come to stay, adding that he was only making efforts to ensure that the institution had a proper and sustainable takeoff.
2. Court orders INEC to recognise Igbinigie as LP candidate
An Abuja high court presided over by Justice D.U. Okorowo has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise and accept Idahosa Igbinigie as the authentic candidate of the Labour Party for Oredo East constituency II in the election to the Edo State House of Assemby on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
Justice Okorowo gave the order while rulling on a motion brought by
the Labour Party, 1st Applicant on behalf of Igbinigie, 2nd applicant against INEC.
LP had filled a motion Ex-Parte dated March 8, 2023 praying the court for an interim order mandating the respondent (INEC) to accept the 2nd Applicant, Igbinigie as the LP’s candidate for Oredo East Constituency for the Edo State House of Assembly election earlier scheduled to hold on March 11, now shifted to March 18, 2023, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
3. Group warns against calls for Enenche, Omakwu’s arrest
A civil society group, the Global Network for Sustainable Development, has warned against calls for the arrest of the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Center, Pastor Paul Enenche, and Pastor Sarah Omakwu of the Family Worship Centre.
The group gave the warning on Friday, in a statement, where it said it was “questionable” that the Centre for Social and Economic Rights, would continue to call for the clergies’ arrest, despite not being the only ones to speak against the conduct of the February 25 Presidential elections.
According to the statement signed by GNSD’s National Coordinator, Phil Roberts, the call for the arrest of Enenche and Omakwu was “antithetical to democracy and freedom of speech.”
Roberts further alleged that the group had been hired to silence the voice of reason “and render our nation a tyrannical and dictatorial enclave where citizens live in perpetual fear and bondage.”

4. Perish thought of upturning Tinubu’s victory – NADECO tells Obi, Atiku
The National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) Renewal Group has advised opposition parties agitating against the declaration of Sen. Bola Tinubu as president-elect to perish the thought of upturning his victory.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti, the group described Tinubu’s emergence as president-elect as the best that had ever happened to Nigeria in recent times.
Its National Leader, Prof. Atilade Adeeyo described the action of the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to upturn Tinubu’s victory through the tribunal as an exercise in futility.
5. Amotekun arrests alleged rapist, herbalist in Osun
Amotekun Corps, the security network of states in the Southwest geo-political zone arrested a 24-year-old suspected rapist in Iwo, Osun on Friday.
He was alleged to have been keeping a 16-year-old girl in his room for three days while having carnal knowledge of her.
Commander of the corps in Osun, retired Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, told newsmen in Osogbo on Saturday that the security outfit arrested a 28-year-old herbalist almost in Iwo.
The herbalist allegedly defrauded some persons and was also found to be in possession of fake 100 dollars and N1,000 notes.
6. Presidential polls: Peter Obi, a hero for foiling Atiku’s victory, says Wike
GOVERNOR Nyesom Wike has described Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi, as the hero of the 2023 presidential election for scuttling the chances of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, thereby preventing North from holding on to power.
Wike, addressing a cluster of Rivers state traders associations Saturday in Port Harcourt, said, “Obi is my hero. If Obi did not contest, power would have gone back to the North. The whole of South-South and South-East that PDP lost if Obi did not contest PDP would have won.”
“Obi is the hero. He may not have been pronounced the winner, but no problem, the law will take its course. If Obi did not run this election, power would have remained in the North. Whether he is declared winner now or not, history will be on his side, that he fought and fought well.”
The governor knocked his predecessor and immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for wooing Igbos in Rivers to vote for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Tonye Cole, as governor whereas he allegedly mobilised votes for Atiku in the presidential polls.

7. NiMet warns pilots, passengers, others of thunderstorms
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has warned pilots, passengers and the general public to beware of thunderstorms and other hazardous weather events as the rainy season begins in some parts of the country.
A statement on Saturday by the General Manager, Public Relations of the agency, Muntari Ibrahim explained that the expected thunderstorm was in line with its 2023 Seasonal Climate Prediction.
“NiMet predicted rainfall onset to be earlier than the long-term average in most parts of the country during the 2023 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP).
“The onset is expected to start from the coastal states of Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa-Ibom in early March, progressively followed by the inland states and the Central states.”. It reads.
8. Generator fume kills mother, child in Ondo
A staff of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owo, simply identfied as Tawa and her five- month- old baby have been killed by fumes inhaled from a generator.
Neighbours said the generator was bought last Monday.
The incident happened on Friday at Owo, Owo local government area of Ondo State.
Husband of the deceased was said to be in coma and admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.

A Bauchi-based group, Coalition of United Civil Society Organizations, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to caution the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, former Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar against alleged use of violence in places of campaign
Yunusa Ndargomi made the call in a news conference in Bauchi on Saturday.
According to the group, Abubakar campaign train had been nothing but a calamity to the good and peace-loving people of Bauchi State as cases of violence and alleged murder had been recorded in some places of his campaign.
