1. 2023: Sowore arrives home-state, Ondo, for consultation

A presidential aspirant of the African Action Congress and publisher of online news platform, Sahara Reporters, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, on Saturday, arrived at his home-state, Ondo, through the Akure Local Airport, to continue consultation ahead of the 2023 general election.

It was the first time the Ondo-born pro-democracy activist would be visiting the state since the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) regime restricted him to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, over the #RevolutionNow protests in 2019.

Sowore, who spoke to pressmen during his arrival, said his arrest was a waste of time and government resources because he was fighting for justice.

He also stated that he was to visit his hometown, Kiribo.

2. South-East youths condemn Aba hotel killing as wicked, babaric

The Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders said they were alarmed over the gruesome murder of a young girl who was found dead and her body dismembered at Merry-Home hotel, Aba, Abia State, describing it as wicked, barbaric and villainous and condemned the act as despicable in its entirety.

The President-General of the apex socio-political youth group in the South-East geopolitical zone, Goodluck Ibem, said “Aba is not known for such barbaric acts and anyone or persons who want to bring in such practices into a business and hardworking town like Aba will not succeed. Such plan is definitely dead on arrival.”

The group demanded that security agencies should not leave any stone unturned in their investigation and prosecution of suspects involved in the wicked act as Abia is God’s own state and it must remain so.

“We call on the state government and security agencies to commence a routine check of all hotels operating in Aba and the entire Abia State to ascertain the type of businesses they do and the activities that go on there should be properly investigated,” the group said.

3. Ogun 2023: 200 Amosun loyalists pledge support for Abiodun

The Ogun State Government says some loyalists of the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state have joined and pledged their loyalty to the incumbent state governor, Dapo Abiodun.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Kunle Somorin , on Saturday said the faction was led back into the mainstream of the All Progressives Congress by the former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaiye.

The statement claimed that 200 loyalists of Amosun in the council pledged their loyalty to Abiodun.

4. 8 Kano female inmates to get free legal service

The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, has disclosed plans for the association to offer free legal services to eight female inmates serving various terms in the Correctional facility.

The FIDA Chairperson, Kano branch, Barr. Bilkisu Suleiman who dropped the hint said the inmates were imprisoned for minor cases such as debt, stealing and fighting.

Barr. Suleiman made this known shortly after leading women from the religious organization on excursion to the Goron Dutse Correctional facility in Kano.

She said the essence of the excursion visit to the facility was to sensitize and expose them to life inside the prison facility in order to be responsible persons in the society and not to ferment trouble that could lead them to imprisonment.

5. 2023: Sowore begs Nigerians to vote for African Action Congress

Mr Omoyele Sowore, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Action Congress (AAC), on Saturday appealed to Nigerians to vote for his party in the 2023 general elections.

Sowore, the publisher of the SaharaReporters, made the plea in Akure while speaking with newsmen, amid a resounding welcome by party faithful.

According to him, Nigerians, most especially the youths, need to challenge those seeking political office ahead of 2023 general elections.

“This is the right time to challenge those in power and bring those with fresh blood, ideas and initiatives that can change the narratives for Nigeria.

6. Vandals cripple water supply to Sokoto Metropolis, says GM

Efforts to boost potable drinking water to Sokoto metropolis and its environs by the state water board are being shattered by the wanton activities of Vandals of water facilities in the state.

The general manager of the state water board Engineer Ismaila Umar Sanda disclosed this to our correspondent in Sokoto.

He said the nefarious activities of suspected vandals have been given the water Agency a sleepless night, adding that it had acquired a giant new 500 KVA generator to complement erratic power supply to state waterworks from the national grid to boost supply amidst vandalization activities.

7. Monday is Eid-El-Filtr, Sultan declares

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Monday as the first day of Shawwal.

He made the declaration after receiving no positive sighting claims from members of the National moonsighting committee and other Emirates.

A terse statement on Saturday evening by Secretary of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC) Mallam Yahaya Muhammad Boyi, reads: “The Sultanate Council Sokoto, has declared Monday 2/5/2022 as the first day of Shuwal 1443 AH.”

8. Norwich relegated from premier league

Norwich City have been relegated from the Premier League following their 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.

Dean Smith’s men lost against his former side with Burnley’s 2-1 win against Watford meaning the Canaries have now dropped down into the Championship.

Norwich knew it would be a long shot to stay in England’s top-flight heading into today’s match but the defeat meant their fate was made official as they will play Championship football next season.

9. Senate President Celebrates Nigerian Workers On May Day, Calls For Speedy Resolution Of ASUU Crisis

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan sends his best wishes to the Nigerian workers on the occasion of this year’s May Day.

Lawan also celebrates the workers for their immense contributions to the development of the nation.

“Nigerian workers deserve our appreciations and respects for their contributions to the development of our country.

“I also salute them for their patriotic cooperation with the government and other institutions in the collective efforts to address societal challenges.

10. Low Turnout Trails LG Election In Benue

There was voter aparty as Benue State conducted its local government election on Saturday across the 23 council areas.

Sunday Tribune observed that that there was a turn out when it went round some polling units in the capital city of Makurdi.

It was observed that the processes of the elections were free and fair, we also observed that electoral materials and election officials arrived the polling units on time.

Also, while observers that monitored the elections in the state hailed the peaceful conduct of the elections, they decried the low turnout of voters for the elections.

Acting Chairman, Forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions of Nigeria, Barrister Jossy Eze also corroborated our findings.
