1. Why I’m silent over PDP crisis – Saraki
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has spoken after a long time, giving reasons why he has been silent over the series of crises rocking the Peoples Democratic Party.
Saraki, who just returned from an annual vacation, went straight to Akwa Ibom State to join the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the state’s creation.
Saraki said he had been working silently, adding that there were times when it was necessary to do this.
The PUNCH reports that the PDP, of which Saraki is a member, has been battling leadership crisis, particularly the aggressive calls for the resignation of its National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, specifically led by governors Nyesom Wike and Seyi Makinde of Rivers State and Oyo State respectively.
2. Bandits attack Zamfara mosque, gun down worshippers
At least 13 worshippers were killed when badita attacked a mosque in Ruwan Jema community, Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, during Juma’at service on Friday.
This comes three weeks after bandits attacked a mosque in Zugu community, Gummi Local Government Area of the state and abducted some worshippers.
Speaking on the latest attack, a resident and an eyewitness, Usman Lawal, told Daily Trust that the attack caused a stampede in the mosque.
Lawal said, “When they laid siege, the armed criminals stormed the mosque when the worshippers were observing Juma’at prayer. We were observing the last Rakaat when suddenly they started firing. Pandemonium broke out as every one was running for dear life.
3. Zulum to sponsor training of 100 journalists
The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has announced plans to sponsor 100 journalists for training at the University of Maiduguri.
Zulum disclosed this at the Triennial Delegates Conference of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists on Saturday in Maiduguri.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy, Malam Isa Gusau, the governor said he requested the university to organise a certificate training programme for the journalists to be funded by the state government.
He urged the council to nominate its members to participate in the programme to enhance their capacities.

4. Aisha Buhari urges support for Education of less privileged children
The first lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has urged relevant stakeholders to support the education and economic empowerment of the less privileged children in the country.
Buhari stated this on Saturday during inauguration and fund rising of MA’ARUF Foundation, an NGO founded by the wife of Yobe Governor, Mrs Hafsat Kollere-Buni in Abuja.
Represented by the wife of the Chief of Army Staff, Mrs Salamatu Yahaya, the first lady extoled the courage and passion of the founder in supporting the course of the less in Yobe State.
5. No evidence of ISWAP or it’s operatives in Edo – Commissioner
The Edo Government has said that there was no evidence of the presence of members of the terrorist group, Islamic State in West African Province (ISWAP), in any part of the state.
The denial is contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Mr Chris Nehikhare, the Edo Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, and made available to Newsmen in Abuja.
According to Nehikhare, the attack at Ibillo-Igarra Road Junction, where a Wabaizigan patrol vehicle was burnt on Sept. 22, was carried out by bandits, not ISWAP members.
“After a thorough investigation by state security outfits involving the Police, Nigerian Army, Edo State Vigilante Network and Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, there is no evidence of ISWAP or its operatives in the state.
6. [Photos] Ikorodu residents uncover scrap yard where live cartridges are stored
Residents of Unity Estate, Poro-Imope, Idiroko, along Itamaga-Ijede Road, Ikorodu, on Saturday, uncovered a scrap yard where live cartridges were reportedly stored in the area.
Two commercial vehicles, some dismantled motorcycles and personal effects were also intercepted at the yard said to be managed by a group of non-Yoruba men.
Eye witnesses’ account said the discovery took place at about 12.30pm when one of the residents who was passing by noticed a suspicious move by the group and thereafter raised the alarm that attracted other residents.

7. Bandits open fire on APC entourage, kidnap
Bandits on Thursday night opened fire on the entourage of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and abducted two chieftains of the party at Tashar Icce village along the busy Kaduna-Kachia Road in Kaduna State.
The attacked APC members were the party leaders and chieftains who accompanied Kaduna APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Uba Sani to Kafanchan for a political engagement.
One of the victims, Ahmed Maiyaki, while thanking God for his survival, said their vehicles were attacked by the bandits somewhere around Kajuru while returning from Kafanchan after interfacing with Christian leaders in the Southern Senate.
8. Six abductees escape as ISWAP terrorists flee
Six security operatives abducted by the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno State have regained freedom.
The Nation learnt the operatives from North Eastern Gubio local government area of Borno State were abducted in the early hours of Saturday .
But Zagazola Makama, a counter- insurgency expert, said the victims escaped after a military super Tucano fighter jet launched a fierce pursuit of the terrorists.

9. Zamfara governorship primary rerun: Why I went back to court – Shehu
One of the Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants, Hon. Ibrahim Shehu, has dragged the party to the Federal High Court for the second time in one week over short notice served to him for the rerun governorship primary election.
Shehu told DAILY POST that he scored only one vote in what he described as kangaroo governorship primary election because he warned his supporters to distance themselves from the exercise.
According to him, he had dragged the party hours before the election to the same Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, the state capital, saying that constitutionally, the party’s leadership was supposed to have given them at least 21 days to prepare for the governorship primary election.
“We cannot go to the election unprepared because the date for the election was so short that there was no time to arrange with my supporters”, he said.
10. Anambra govt takes action as Keke riders, shuttle bus drivers embark on strike
Officials of Anambra State Government on Saturday met with commercial tricycles operators and shuttle bus drivers, over the strike action embarked upon by them.
For two days (Thursday and Friday), the operators have been engaging in a protest, refusing to ferry passengers around Awka.
Their grouse was the insistence of the state government to task them N15,000 monthly as tax.
The operators also complained that beyond the N15,000 levy, louts who have been outlawed in the state were still collecting revenues from them.
The state Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, who addressed the protesters at Ekwueme Square, Awka, noted that the state government is making frantic efforts to resolve the revenue issue which necessitated his presence at the meeting.
