The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has called for an improved security architecture as the current regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), would come to an end on May 29.

The governor particularly called for a sustained simultaneous ground and air kinetic actions of security agencies across the seven frontline states of the North-West zone and Niger which had continuous forest ranges and were mostly impacted by security challenge.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday, said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), refrained from reacting to the spectacle at the Adamawa State governorship election because he does not micromanage government agencies.

He argued that it was the prerogative of the Independent National Electoral Commission to deal with the infraction by the suspended Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Ari.

“The President does not micromanage any institution. I don’t think that this government has ever intervened in the way the Independent National Electoral Commission conducts its elections,” Mohammed said during a heated exchange with State House Correspondents after this week’s Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

He also said he had not received any petition written to Buhari to sanction the erring REC, whom he simply described as an INEC employee.

3. Elections: NGO drags Malami, Kalu to court

A human rights organisation, the Incorporated Trustees of Initiative Against Human Right Abuse and Torture, has dragged the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami, to court over an alleged electoral crime.

Others also accused of breaching the electoral laws are the Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzo Kalu and Dim Emeka Obasi.

In the originating summons filed before the Federal High Court, the plaintiff is accusing the defendants of “gross violation of the provisions of the Electoral Act by displaying their ballot papers to the public immediately after casting their votes in their various polling units on the 25th day of February 2023”.

It is averring that the action of the defendant’s “Including the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari and some sitting Governors who are currently under immunity” sabotaged the secrecy of the ballot.
