1. Reps demand justice for slain Lagos lawyer, Raheem
The House of Representatives has demanded justice for a Lagos-based female lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem, who was shot and killed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Drambi Vandi, an officer attached to the Ajah Divisional Headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command.
At the plenary on Wednesday, members of the House observed one-minute silence in honour Raheem, and Gafaru Braimoh who was the second person to have been killed by policemen in the same area within one month.
The lawmakers demanded, “an immediate investigation be carried out to get justice for these two victims,” while they resolved that “police officers should be banned from consuming alcohol and other hard substances that are capable of inhibiting their sense of reasoning and capability to carry out their duties judiciously.”
The House also declared that there should be a zero-tolerance policy to misconduct or misbehaviour in the Nigeria Police.
2. PDP member killed in Oyo
A member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, Mudashiru Baraka, has been killed.
He was said to have been killed by rival political thugs on Wednesday morning in Oyo town.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Baraka, a PDP grassroots mobiliser in the town, was macheted to death by his assailants at his father’s house in the morning.
Lamenting the attack was allegedly backed by some individuals in the opposition party, the ruling PDP in the state said others who escaped from the scene sustained various degrees of injuries while appealing to the state Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Williams, to bring culprits of the dastardly acts to justice expeditiously.
3. Residents flee Ondo communities over killer-herdsmen attacks
The residents of Ijagba, Imoru and Arimogija in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State have raised the alarm over the incessant attacks on the communities by suspected killer-herdsmen.
In a ‘Save our Souls’ message to the state government, the residents who are mostly farmers claimed that the killer-herdsmen had been terrorising the communities for over two weeks, killing and destroying properties worth millions of naira.
It was gathered that the herdsmen had allegedly been destroying farmlands and crops which included yam, maize and cassava in the affected communities and if the farmers resisted them, they would attack them.
A source in one of the communities on Wednesday stated that the herdsmen who always kidnapped the residents of the community for ransom had warned them not to go near their farms and local plantation.

4. 7 burnt to death in Sagamu-Benin expressway accident
No fewer than seven people were burnt to death on Wednesday when a Mazda bus suddenly burst into flames a few meters before Odogbolu on the Sagamu-Benin expressway
Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Spokesman, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.
Akinbiyi said that seven others sustained injuries in the accident that occurred at 2.50 p.m.
According to him, the bus marked AGL 886 YD suddenly burst into flames due to an engine overflow.
5. National Assembly passes N21.82trn Budget for 2023
THE National Assembly Wednesday passed the 2023 Appropriation Bill to the tune of N21, 827,188,747, 391 as the national budget as the aggregate expenditure for the fiscal year.
The approved budget was jerked by N1.31 trillion which was moved from the initial N20.1 trillion to N21.8 trillion.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had on Friday, October 7th 2022 proposed and laid a N20.51 trillion Appropriation bill for consideration by both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The passage of the appropriation bill was sequel to the consideration and approval of the report of the Senator Jibrin Barau, APC, Kano North led Senate Committee on Appropriations and the House Committee on Appropriation presented by the chairman, Hon. Aliyu Betara.
6. ‘I bless God for life,’ CDQ narrates near-death experience
Nigerian rapper, Sodiq Abubakar better known as CDQ, who is currently hospitalised, is thankful for his survival.
The rapper took to Instagram to express gratitude to God for saving his life.
Recounting the experience, CDQ revealed that he thought he was going to die, as he has never felt helpless in his life.

7. I hawked oranges to train my daughter, says slain lawyer’s mum
The mother of the slain expectant lawyer, Mrs. Bolanle Raheem, has revealed she hawked oranges to train her to become a lawyer.
She spoke when Lagos Police Commissioner (CP), Abiodun Alabi, visited the family’s residence in Ajah on Tuesday.
Bolanle’s mother wept inconsolably over the murder of her daughter by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Drambi Vandi at Ajiwe in Ajah on Christmas Day.
“I cannot see my ‘The Law’ again. People usually call her ‘The Law’. She was taken away from me.
8. ‘Tinubu healthy, intellectually fit to rule Nigeria’
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is healthy and intellectually fit to rule Nigeria.
The declaration was made on Wednesday in Osogbo by Mr. Adeboye Adebayo, a member of the APC’s Presidential Campaign Council.
He spoke at a media engagement held at the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Office in Osogbo, on: “Tinubu’s manifesto: Speaking directly to peoples’ needs and national challenges.’’

9. Ondo: Abducted students finally regain freedom
Four students from Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, who had been held captive for five days in Ondo State by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers were freed on Wednesday.
According to sources, the students were released after the victims’ families paid an undisclosed ransom.
The victims were abducted last week Friday while returning to their hometown of Ajowa-Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government for Christmas.
The victims were Florence Obadero, Oreoluwa Aregbesola, Ifeoluwa Ahmed, and Omotoyosi Olarotimi. Their driver was identified as Monday Momodu.
10. Passenger dies in Otedola Bridge accident, LASTMA rescues others
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said Tuesday evening’s accident inward Otedola bridge claimed one life.
The agency, however, rescued 12 victims trapped inside a commercial bus after it rammed into a petrol tanker.
General Manager, Bolaji Oreagba issued a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Taofiq Adebayo.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the bus had a brake failure, according to Oreagba.
