1. Atiku’s presidency will calm agitations in South-East –Ihedioha
A former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, Wednesday said the victory of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, will resolve political agitations in the southeastern part of the country.
Ihedioha stated this during a town hall meeting organised by PDP youths with the theme ‘Youths and students as catalysts for PDP’s 2023 general election’ in Abuja.
Speaking on the issues compounding Imo State, Ihedioha enjoined the youths not to “make mistakes” in voting another party that will compound their woes.
He said, “For us ordinarily, Imo is a PDP State, but we have been blown by a wave and that’s why we have to work harder . It doesn’t come easy. South East has invested tremendously in national development, we’re very industrious, we have done so much to advance the country’s technology but what we’re getting is not commensurate to it.
“That’s why there is fatigue, anger in the land. The current administration has been a curse to the nation, but the dark days must soon be over, we must not work in anger, our faculty must be intact. It’s important we come out of the misery but we’re going to be very careful,” Ihedioha said.
2. APC Chair rules out presidency by proxy under Tinubu
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Adamu, has dispelled gossip about the health status of the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying he was not aware of his sickness.
He also dismissed fears of presidency by proxy should Tinubu win the election and the reported existence of a cabal in the Aso Villa.
Adamu stated this while answering questions from journalists at a press conference on Wednesday evening in Abuja titled, “Victory is on the horizon.”
Adamu disclosed he does not believe in the existence of the mafia.
3. CBN denies plans to shut down financial transactions for election
The Central Bank of Nigeria has debunked rumours of its plans to halt financial transactions from the 23rd to the 27th of February, 2023, ahead of the upcoming elections.
A WhatsApp message stating that the apex bank will shut down all electronic bank network between Thursday and Monday in order to prevent vote-buying went viral at the beginning of the week.
Titled, “Special report” the message read, “CBN PLANS TO SHUT DOWN FINANCIAL TRANSACTION FROM THURSDAY 23 OF FEBUARY TILL 27TH OF FEBUARY..GO AND STOCK YOUR HOME….
It said, “Anyhow you can get money between today and tomorrow, get and keep it, also whatever transfer you want to do, do it between today and tomorrow. Information I’m hearing is that, as of Thursday, bank networks will go off till Sunday or Monday, so that politicians will not be able to transfer money to anybody for vote. So buy enough food at home, do your transfer now because the next five days will be difficult please.”

4. Our achievements have reversed devt tides against us – Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari says the achievements so far recorded by his administration in the last eight years has reversed the developmental tides against it, in the face of fierce criticism and great sacrifices.
The President stated this at the presentation of PMB achievements tagged: “Preserving PMB Legacy” on Wednesday at the banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
President Buhari who was represented by his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo said the administration had pursued the realization of its promises for better security, laying a foundation for prosperity, and creating a fresh burst of hope for the future of the country despite tough challenges.
The event comprised the launch of five variants of the PMB scorecard as part of the ongoing PMB Scorecard presentation series that started in October 2022.
5. Polls: Why INEC won’t transmit raw election figures — Yakubu
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has explained why, as always, the commission would not electronically transmit raw election figures on Saturday.
At a meeting with leaders of Foreign Election Observation Missions in Nigeria, Yakubu said Presiding Officers would rather, be required to use the Bimodal Voter Authentication System BVAS to photograph the result sheets of each polling unit and upload them on the INEC Result Viewing Portal IREV for Nigerians.
According to him, the decision to not transmit raw figures electronically was taken to avoid the possibility of hacking into the system as raw figures are more vulnerable to hacks.
6. FG orders verification of academic, NYSC certificates of NSITF staff
The Federal Government on Wednesday directed the verification of the academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates of staff of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
Ngige also charged the new board to ensure the full implementation of the NSITF Restructuring Report and conclusion of Electronic NSITF (E-NSITF) Phases I and II, to enable the maximum collection of contributions from public and private sectors, as well as move into the informal sector of the economy.
The Minister called for the intensification of operational drive in the public sector, which is within the dimension of the formal economy, to ensure that national and sub-national governments (states) move towards universal coverage to all the workers in Nigeria.
He mandated the new board to do their best to build a new NSITF, noted for accountability, transparency and other principles characteristic of good governance.

7. APC confident of victory on Saturday – Adamu
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Abdullahi Adamu said the party is confident of victory at Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
Adamu spoke at a briefing organised by his office in Abuja.
He said despite the suit challenging the cash swap policy of the Federal Government, the party will go into the elections as a united house.
He said: “As you are very much aware, in the last few months, our party, the APC and its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been traversing every part of the country campaigning and soliciting for the support of Nigerians ahead of the coming general elections.
8. APC ‘ll bury PDP, LP on Saturday, says SWAGA
The National Coordinator of Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), Senator Dayo Adeyeye has said the February 25 presidential election would be a burial day for the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) and the Labour Party (LP).
Adeyeye stated the PDP and LP would cease to exist immediately after the presidential election as they would be finally laid to eternal rest through the ballot on Saturday.
The SWAGA stated this in Ado-Ekiti the Ekiti state capital on Wednesday while speaking with newsmen.
He said that Nigerians have realised that PDP and LP are ‘dangerous cancers’ that could not be entrusted with power.

9. EFCC arraigns Young Alhaji for allegedly collecting N950m for dollar swap
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned Alhaji Usman Abubakar alongside Young Alhaji Foundation before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos State.
The defendants face a five-count charge allegedly bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and stealing of N950million.
Abubakar, the Foundation and Dr. Abu Omer Fawzi (at large), sometime in September 2022, conspired to obtain N950,000,000 from Ano Farms Limited.
