1. ACP Kyari offered me N10m to implicate Saraki – Suspect

One of the principal suspects in the resumed trial of the Offa bank robbery case, Ayoade Akinnibosun, on Wednesday told a Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin how the former Commander, Inspector General Response Team squad, ACP Abba Kyari, tortured and promised to give him N10 million and other things to implicate former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, in the armed robbery case.

Besides, he said that Kyari promised to give him a visa to any country of his choice if he supported the move to implicate Saraki, but said that he turned down the offers.

Five suspects, Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibikunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salaudeen Azeez and Niyi Ogundiran were charged to court by the police for criminal conspiracy to rob the bank, illegal possession of firearms, murder of nine policemen and other citizens.

During the incident, about 11 persons were feared killed while other residents sustained serious injuries.

2. British Council ends conflict mgt programme in Adamawa

The British Council has announced the close-out of the Managing Conflict in Nigeria programme in Adamawa.

MCN is a five-year programme being implemented by the British Council with the support of the European Union aimed at enhancing peacebuilding and alternative dispute resolution in the Northeast.

The National Programme Manager, Prof. Muhammad Tabiu, said this at the close-out ceremony on Wednesday in Yola.

He urged Adamawa government and other stakeholders to sustain the programme, adding the MCN programme started in 2018 in the wake of insurgency that threatened the survival of people in the state.

3. Why PVC collection is low – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday shed more light on why some states were recording low turnout for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards since the commencement of the exercise.

The commission also stated that out of the 93,469,008 registered voters for the 2023 general election, women voters constituted 44,414846 or 48 per cent, while men constituted 49,054162 or 52 per cent.

The youths (18-35) constituted 37,060,399 or 40 per cent.

According to the commission, most of the states with low PVCs collection rates were states where off-season governorship elections were conducted

4. Affordable homes: Lagos harps on standard, safety from partners

The Lagos State Government has expressed its determination to deliver homes that are safe and fit for habitation to residents, particularly, in collaboration with the private sector.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Lagos State, Mr Kamar Olowoshago, stressed this on Wednesday when he led the management team to inspect the Joint Venture Housing  Schemes with partners at Abraham Adesanya Estate and others, at Lekki and Ajah axis, Lagos.

The Permanent Secretary was accompanied by the Management of the Ministry and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Housing, Ayodeji Amodu.

5. Whereabouts of PDP guber candidate worries Abia group

A group known as Abia Transformation Agenda Network (TAN), has expressed deep worry over the whereabouts of the governorship candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Professor Uche Ikonne.

The group said that his continued absence and lack of information about his health status have become worrisome, arguing that Abians should no longer be kept in the dark concerning his whereabouts.

National Coordinator of the group, Thomas Okoro, in a statement, accused the ruling party of “playing hide and seek with the collective destiny of Abians” by hiding information about the its governorship flag bearer.

6. I will secure, unite Nigeria — Peter Obi tells Kaduna supporters

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, (LP), Mr Peter Obi, has said that he will secure and unite Nigeria where every citizen will be proud.

“Nigerians are ashamed to identify themselves as Nigerians because of the many challenges the country is faced with. I will change the narrative,” he said.

Obi who spoke on Wednesday while flagging off his presidential campaign in the North said that they have started the campaign in Kaduna because Kaduna was the capital of Northern Nigeria which every Nigerian was proud of.

7. Kidnapped Ekiti Catholic priest regains freedom

The Parish priest of St. Gregory Catholic Church, Omu-Ekiti, Rev. Father Michael Olofinlade has regained freedom after spending three days in captivity.

Fr. Olofinlade was abducted around 6pm on Saturday on the Itaji Ekiti-Ijelu Ekiti Road in the Oye Local Government Area while returning from Ado-Ekiti to his parish.

A community source, who confirmed the release, told our correspondent the catholic priest was left off the hook on Tuesday evening at Itapaji-Ekiti.

8. Alleged drug deal: Abba Kyari, others know fate March 22

An application filed by the DCP Abba Kyari and three other suspended police officers seeking to quash the criminal charges against them has been adjourned until March 22 for ruling.

Justice Emeka Nwite of a Federal High Court, Abuja fixed the date after counsel for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Joseph Sunday, and the defence lawyers, presented their arguments for and against the motion.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NDLEA had filed criminal charges against Kyari (1st defendant) and four of his colleagues who were members of Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

They include ACP Sunday Ubia, ASP Bawa James, Insp. Simon Agirigba and Insp. John Nuhu who are 2nd to 5th defendants respectively.

9. 2023: You can’t fix Nigeria, only good identifying problems – Okowa’s aide blasts Peter Obi

Delta State Governor Special Assistant on Media, Ossai Success has cautioned Nigerians against voting for the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Success warned that Obi cannot fix Nigeria; hence Nigerians should not vote for him.

He said the LP presidential candidate lacked the competence and experience to fix Nigeria.

According to Success, the former Anambra State governor is good at identifying Nigeria’s problems but lacked the solution to the problems.

“The level of competence and experience needed to fix this country is not found in Peter Obi as Nigeria at this time can’t afford to elect someone that knows our pains but can’t fix it.

10. Israel confirms direct Nigeria flights begin March

Ahead of 2023 Chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party in Lere Local Goverment area of Kaduna state, Alhaji Musa Arungo, on Wednesday, called on the federal government, state government to ensure adequate security across the 23 Local Government areas of state.

According to him, with the remaining few weeks to presidential election in February 25,2023, it’s glaring that campaign has dominated the state, with additional security presence in most communities, local government and even interior villages.
He noted that Kaduna being the centre of the north, should be properly equipped with security across the state, before, during and after elections.
” By now, the people should be able to see some security personnel patrolling the street to scare criminals and those with evil intention. That will frightened them and discourage them from planning evil during election” he said

Musa Arungo who wondered how security agencies would be used to a particular communty or local government during election, as they have not been there before the election, noted that with four weeks to election, the security ought to have been posted to a particular communty or village, to study the nature of that place.
