1. FG not afraid of CSOs, says Presidency
The Presidency on Wednesday described as untrue claims that the Federal Government was always afraid of civil society organisations which had always tried to put the government in check.
While insisting that unbridled freedom for members of the civic space could portend danger, the Presidency said liberties must be exercised with a sense of responsibility.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President (Policy Research), Chris Ngwodo, made the clarification in Abuja during the public presentation of a document titled: ‘A compilation of policy briefs on civic space engagement in Nigeria’.
Ngwodo said it was almost reductionist to claim that the government was afraid of the civic space, insisting that unbridled freedom could portend danger.
2. 2023: Atiku holds closed-door meeting with PDP govs
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alh. Atiku Abubakar has on Wednesday, held a closed-door meeting with governors elected on the platform of the party.
The closed-door meeting was held at the PDP presidential campaign headquarters, Legacy House, in Abuja.
It was gathered that the meeting was connected to issues relating to the opposition party’s campaign for the 2023 polls.
Atiku, in a post on his official Facebook page, announced the meeting, saying, “My meeting with the PDP Governors’ Forum today gives delightful assurance that the fabric of unity in our party continues to be strengthened. The energy to work together to win the general election and start the work of rebuilding the country is overwhelming. -AA”
3. Tinubu’s victory reward for services to Nigeria, says Oyetola
Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Wednesday described Bola Tinubu’s victory in the All Progressives Congress presidential primary as a reward for his selfless services to Nigeria.
Oyetola, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, noted that the emergence of Tinubu in the hitch-free electoral process was also a clear indication that the country was on the verge of democratic rejuvenation.
He then expressed confidence in the competence of Tinubu to deliver victory for the APC in the 2023 presidential election, adding that the former Lagos governor would deploy his administrative acumen to take the country to enviable heights ever known in history.
Oyetola said, “Your emergence at the just concluded Presidential Primary of our great party is indeed a reward of your tireless efforts and selfless services to Nigeria and Nigerians and of course, humanity as a whole.

4. Tinubu’s victory has vindicated our Party’s nationalistic outlook – Abdullahi Adamu
National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu has written to congratulate the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his emergence as standard bearer of the party at its 2022 Special Convention and Presidential Primary.
Adamu had in the lead up to the exercise demonstrated open animosity towards Tinubu who he said would be severely sanctioned for publicly recalling how he (Tinubu) helped President Muhammadu Buhari to power in 2015.
The party chair had also announced Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the preferred consensus presidential aspirant of the party, a move that was fiercely resisted by critical stakeholders of the party including members of the National Working Committee NWC.

One of the Presidential aspirants and Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has assured National Leader of the All Progressives Congress and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, of needed support to ensure the victory of the flagbearer and the ruling party in the 2023 presidential election.
Bello, one of the leading contestants gave the assurance in his congratulatory message to Tinubu on his emergence as the presidential candidate of the APC for the 2023 general election.
Tinubu emerged the presidential candidate of the party after polling 1,271 votes in the primary election of the ruling party, held at the Eagle Square, Abuja on Tuesday.
6. SDP Convention: Voting ends as ballot collation begins
Voting in the ongoing Presidential primary election of the Social Democratic Party, SDP ended a few minutes ago as accredited delegates from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT cast their votes to elect the party’s standard flag bearer in the 2023 general elections.
The two-horse race pitches Lagos businessman, Adewole Adebayo against Kadijah Okunnu-Lamidi, both of whom stormed the International Conference Centre, Abuja, venue of the convention with their army of supporters.
The exercise is being closely monitored by a delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, led by national commissioner, publicity and voter education, Barr. Festus Okoye alongside party officials including national chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, national secretary, Olu Agunloye amongst others.

7. Absence of judge stalls Fani-Kayode’s ex-wife’s trial
The absence of Justice Obiora Egwuatu of a Federal High Court, Abuja has stalled the hearing in a suit filed by a former senator, Mrs Grace Bent against Precious Chikwendu, ex-wife of former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode
The matter, which was on number 12 on the day’s cause list, could not proceed due to Justice Egwuatu’s Absence.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the judge was a participant at the on-going three-day judges’ seminar holding at the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Abuja.
8. Delegates laud APC for free, fair credible primary election
A cross section of delegates at the just-concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary have lauded the party for conducting free, fair and credible election.
The delegates, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, said that the party created a level playing ground for all aspirants.
Mr Ibrahim Yusuf, a delegate from Kano, told NAN that the election was well contested, while the best aspirant won.
He said “for me, I listened to what each aspirant had to offer and I picked the one that could deliver, thank God Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu won.

9. 2023 presidency: Tambuwal gives update on PDP governors’ meeting, Atiku’s VP
Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, has revealed details of Atiku Abubakar’s meeting with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors.
Tambuwal said Atiku on Wednesday met with governors to strategise on securing victory for PDP in the 2023 general elections.
He told newsmen that the meeting was more of a consultative meeting.
The politician along with the candidate came to thank the governors for their roles at the convention.
Tambuwal said, “We talked about cooperation and collaboration in prosecuting a very successful electioneering campaign that will result in victories for the PDP at various elections from the state House of Assembly, national election, governorship and the presidential election come February 2023.
10. Police arrest ministry staff, others after attempt to defraud Nigerian govt of $2bn
The Police in Edo State have arrested eight suspects for trying to dupe the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor told reporters that they attempted to defraud the government of $2billion.
Nwabuzor said the arrest followed complaint received by the crack team of the command on April 25, 2022.
The petition was written by High Chief Richard David, a representative of Okpella community in Etsako Central Local Government Area.
On July 14, 2021, the suspects told the complainant and his kinsmen that they had secured a contract from the Federal Government.
They claimed the “approval”, purportedly through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), was to evacuate scrap borehole pipes equipment $2billion.
The further claimed the said equipment was meant for the Okpella water project under the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF).
