1. Election materials: PDP, Atiku withdraw court application against INEC

The Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have withdrawn an application they filed to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission to allow their agents to participate in the process of sorting out ballot papers that were used for the February 25 presidential election.

Both the PDP and Atiku, who are separately challenging the outcome of the election that was declared in favour of Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, that they have deemed it fit to discontinue the application.

When the motion ex-parte, marked: CA/PEC/10M/2023, was called up for hearing on Wednesday, Atiku, through his team of lawyers led by Joe Kyari Gadzama, told the court that he filed a notice of discontinuance.

Following this, Justice Joseph Ikyegh-led three-member panel struck out the application.

2. Osun police warn residents against fake news

The Osun State Police Command has warned residents of the state against the spread of fake news and provocative content on social media with the intent to cause apprehension in the state during Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.

The warning was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola obtained in Osogbo, on Wednesday.

While commending the electorate for their peaceful conduct during the last presidential and National Assembly elections, it said the conduct was an indication that Osun residents were peace loving.

3. Policeman guns down wife, lover, reports self

A police officer, identified as Mmutle, has been arrested in connection with the murder of his estranged wife and a 30-year-old man named Katlego, said to be his wife’s lover, in South Africa.

It was gathered that the warrant officer found his wife and the alleged lover having sex at an apartment belonging to her friend and gunned them down, IOL reported on Wednesday.

Independent Police Investigative Directorate spokesperson, Lizzy Suping, said the incident took place on Tuesday evening, March 14, 2023 at iKageleng in Zeerust, North West province.

4. Why Buhari’s silence on allegations against INEC dangerous – Southern, M’Belt leaders

LEADERS of thought, elder statesmen from four of the six geo-political zones of the country, under the aegis of Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum, SMBLF have said that it is dangerous and worrisome over the silence of President Muhammadu Buhari in the face of allegations of irregularities and compromise against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during and immediate aftermath of the Saturday, 25th February, 2023  Presidential Election.

In a signed statement, the leaders of the Middle- Belt, Ndi- Igbo( Ohaneaze, Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, South-South, and Afenifere, the groups said that it became more disturbing when President Buhari had to embark on an international journey soon after the election when there have been complaints with the election.

5. Rivers people tired of Wike, Tonye Cole best candidate – Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation and Rotimi Amaechi has called on Rivers people to come out on election day, vote and stand to protect their votes, stating that it is the only way to put a stop to misrule by the Governor Nyesom Wike-led government.

He said, unlike the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Tonye Cole who has a mind of his own, Wike wants to continue his squandering Rivers resources by installing his godson.

Amaechi spoke on Wednesday, during his campaign visit to the popular Mile 3 Market in Port Harcourt, and electoral wards in Ikwerre and Etche Local Government Areas to canvass voters for the APC’s Tonye Cole.

In Elele he said, “Wike is tribalistic. Wike does not even support Ikwerre people, Wike supports only himself and his pocket, and his garrulous mouth. We will win. You need to come out and vote and make us win. People are tired of Wike and his stealing…If he has shame, he would not have gone on national television and say when Atiku was demonstrating at INEC office, he was drinking 40 years old whiskey. Is he well?

6. Why I dumped PDP for Sanwo-Olu – Dosunmu

Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party,  PDP, in Lagos State, Ade Dosunmu, has dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress, APC, to ensure victory for Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu re-election bid on Saturday’s Governorship poll.

Dosunmu, who made the remark, during his formal defection, along with other political parties, yesterday, at the State House, Marina, said he left the PDP because ‘the party has not made any appreciable progress in terms of electoral success/victory’.

He added that the dynamic leadership of Bola Tinubu, as well as Governor Sanwo-Olu’s approach to piloting affairs of the state endeared the APC to him.

7. FG, States yet to harmonise palliative plans ahead of subsidy removal

Just three months to the commencement of its planned gradual removal of petroleum subsidy, the Federal Government said it has yet to harmonise templates with the States on palliatives to cushion its harsh effects on Nigerians.

Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba, stated this while addressing State House Correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Agba said the concerned committees would soon conclude discussions with key stakeholders as the administration concludes its tenure in the coming weeks

The Minister, who joined two of his colleagues; Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, and that of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, to address the post-FEC briefing, said that even though a committee, led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had been working for about a year, nothing definite had been agreed.

8. Shina Peller endorses Makinde re-election

The Oyo North Senatorial candidate of Accord Party in Oyo State Hon. Shina Peller has endorsed Governor Seyi Makinde‘s re-election bid.

He officially announced an understanding with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the governorship election.

Peller won the HoR seat for Iseyin/Kajola/Iwajowa/Itesiwaju Federal Constituency in 2019 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

9. Peter Obi left PDP due to constant insults from Wike – Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has claimed that his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, left the main opposition party because of constant insults from Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike

Atiku, who spoke through Phrank Shaibu, his Special Assistant on Public Communications, in Abuja, on Wednesday, also said it was miserable that Wike succeeded in deceiving his colleagues in the G-5 into committing ‘political suicide’, to reject the PDP.

According to him, Wike deceived Governors Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu and Samuel Ortom of Benue into joining him in his actions.

Shaibu’s statement was in response to a statement by the Rivers State Government where it warned Atiku to “caution his attack dogs”.

10. Guber poll: INEC must upload results through BVAS – Adebutu to Ogun voters

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must upload the results of the March 18 elections into its server through the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines.

Adebutu asked Ogun voters to monitor the voting exercise and ensure that officials of INEC comply with the guideline, which mandated them to transmit results electronically from the polling units, wards and local government collation centres.

The candidate charged Ogun people to go out en masse on Saturday and vote for the PDP, while also securing their votes.
