1. 179 million Nigerians lack access to safe drinking water – NIWE
The Nigerians Institution of Water Engineers has said that no fewer than 179 million Nigerians are lacking access to safe drinking water in the country.
The group said residents in urban areas have been accessing only contaminated water, adding that it is the reason different diseases evolve in the country.
The NIWE National Chairman, Adeyinka Sobowale, on Wednesday, disclosed this during a press briefing held in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, to mark World Water Day.
Quoting the statistics from Water, Sanitation and Hygiene National Outcome Routine Mapping, Sobowale said the research was carried out by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources in 2021.
2. Don’t loot Plateau treasury, PDP warns outgoing APC govt
The Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State, which won the governorship election, conducted last Saturday, has warned the outgoing government officials of ruling All Progressives Congress not to loot the state treasury, as doing such, would have dire consequences
The party gave the warning on Wednesday, through a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, John Akans.
According to PDP, the ruling APC administration in the state, which tenure comes to an end, on May 29, 2023, having lost a re-election bid should not add to the current harrowing experiences of the people of the state, by allowing it’s officials to loot the treasury.
The statement noted: “It is on this premise that the general public and the good people of Plateau State are hereby alerted to the dastardly plan by Governor (Simon) Lalong and some of his officials, and for the public to report any such criminal moves which they may sense, regarding this public alert.
“We have it on good authority that Plateau State assets within the state ministries, Kaduna, Lagos and Abuja are being tampered with for private acquisition. We have detailed reports of several properties currently being processed for ownership transfer, involving serving commissioners and top government officials, hence, this serious warning to those involved in this illegal deals,” the statement further alleged.
3. Port Harcourt refinery ready Q2 of 2023 – Minister
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has said the Port Harcourt refinery is near completion.
The three refineries in the country; Warri, Port-Harcourt, and Kaduna have been moribund for years.
However, Sylva said the Port Harcourt refinery should be ready before the end of the second quarter of the year.
He disclosed this at a seminar by Defence Correspondents with the theme, ‘‘Achieving presidential mandate in curbing oil theft and securing the nation’s wealth” in Abuja on Wednesday.
Represented by his media aide, Horatius Egua, he said the problems confronting the oil and gas industry stemmed from years of neglect by past administrations.

4. Court dismisses FG’s suit to recover N70trn loot stashed in 29 accounts
The Federal High High Court sitting in Lagos has struck out the Federal Government’s suit seeking to recover and forfeit the sum of N70trillion it alleged was stashed in 29 bank accounts by some looters.
Justice Peter Lifu held that the Federal Government’s lawyers and the private lawyers which it subsequently gave a fiat, did not diligently prosecute the case.
The judge expressed shock that the Plaintiff Counsel, Mohammed Ndarani, SAN, and subsequently Femi Falana SAN “suddenly developed cold feet over this alleged public interest case”.
The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Attorney-General of the Federation/ Minister of Justice are the Plaintiffs/Applicants in the suit.
5. Suspected herders invade Edo community, injure one, another missing
One person was reportedly injured while several others were displaced as suspected herders attacked Sobe in Owan West Local Government area of Edo State on Tuesday night.
It was gathered yesterday that the latest attack is coming after three people, a pastor and two of his farm workers, were killed in the same community two weeks ago by suspected herders.
A barber called Monday was reportedly attacked with a machete and left for dead but he was taken to a hospital where he is said to be recovering from his wounds.
6. I put myself forward for position of Senate President — Umahi
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State and Senator-elect for Ebonyi South Senatorial zone in the 2023 general election, Wednesday declared his interest to run for the position of the Senate President of the National Assembly.
Umahi who stated this during a Statewide broadcast and Press Conference held Wednesday at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Abakaliki, called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC to consider zoning the Senate President position to the South East geopolitical zone of the Country.
“I want to put myself forward for the position of the Senate President. want to appeal to the National Assembly to amend the rules. I put myself forward. I will not go against their decision. Let the will of God come to pass. We courageously left PDP because our people needed to aspire to the leadership of this country.’

7. Withdraw litigations, join hands with Tinubu – Umahi tells Obi, Atiku
Ebonyi Governor David Umahi has urged Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar and others who contested with the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the presidential elections to embrace peace and join hands to rebuild the nation of Nigeria.
Umahi made the call in a Statewide broadcast and Press Conference held Wednesday at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Abakaliki.
The Governor charged them to see Tinubu and Shettima’s victory as the will of God, and admonished them against unnecessary litigations.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmud Yakubu for the invaluable innovations brought into Nigeria’s electoral process.
8. FEC okays N459.08bn for Transportation Ministry’s projects, NDLEA’s barracks
The Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Wednesday, approved contracts worth N459,083,625,766 for the Ministry of Transportation and barracks for officials of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
This was disclosed to State House Correspondents after the week’s Council meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Giving a breakdown of his outing at the Council meeting, Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo Jaji, said his ministry presented two memoranda, which were both approved.
According to Jaji, the memoranda he presented included the Nigerian Ports Authority’s N510,934,600 worth request for the construction and supply of customized Fire Service Search and Rescue vans for extrication of accident victims and the request for the procurement of rollingstock operation and maintenance equipment for the Kano-Maradi rail line, at the cost of $984,722,392.

9. PDP dissolves its Katsina State Executive Committee
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has approved the dissolution of the Katsina State Executive Committee of the party with immediate effect.
This was contained in a statement by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba in Abuja on Wednesday.
Ologunagba said that the NWC took the decision after an extensive deliberation on issues relating to the Katsina State chapter of the party.
10. Nigeria election: UK to issue visa ban on vote buyers, anti-democratic individuals
The British High Commission in Nigeria has condemned the use of inflammatory ethno-religious language by some public and political figures during gubernatorial and state assembly elections on March 18.
A statement it issued on its Twitter page on Wednesday said the UK observed violence, and voter suppression in numerous voting locations.
”We witnessed and received credible reports from other observer missions and civil society organisations of vote buying and voter intimidation, the destruction and hijacking of election materials and the general disruption of the process in numerous states including Lagos, Enugu and Rivers.
