1. Census: NPC says no question on religious affiliation

The National Population Commission has denied insinuations that the 2023 Population and Housing Census would canvass questions on religion and religious affiliations of respondents.

The clarification was made following a viral audio message circulating on WhatsApp insinuating that religious affiliations of respondents will be canvassed in the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

In the viral message, it was also claimed that the questions were included to suppress the devotees of a particular religion in the country.

2. Man faces prosecution for N4.8m fraud in Lagos

A 38-year-old man, Idowu Afeez, has been arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State for allegedly defrauding one Banjo Samuel of the sum of N4,8 million.

Afeez allegedly defrauded Samuel under pretence to purchase a Toyota Highlander 2013 model from United States of America on his behalf but converted the money for his own use in the Egbeda area of Lagos State.

Idowu was brought before Magistrate S.O Obasa on three-count bordering on felony to wit, obtaining money by false pretence and stealing preferred against him by the police.

3. National Assembly confirms Tambuwal as clerk

The National Assembly Service Commission has confirmed the appointment of Magaji Tambuwal as the clerk to the National Assembly.

His appointment was confirmed in a statement dated Wednesday 29th March 2023 and signed by the Director of Public Affairs of the commission, Mrs Janet Mambula.

Tambuwal’s appointment was said to have been approved at the 573rd Meeting of the Commission held on Wednesday 29th March 2023.

It added that the confirmation takes immediate effect.

4. Tinubu’s victory: War in Afenifere as Fasoranti faults Adebanjo

THE leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, yesterday, dissociated himself from the position taken at Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State over the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the President-elect, saying that is not the Afenifere way.

He also declared the removal and suspension of two Afenifere officials, Messrs Kole Omololu and Jare Ajayi, null and void.

Fasoranti, in a statement he personally signed, stated that being a law abiding organization, Afenifere could not have asserted that someone, other than the person declared by the body duly authorized by the Constitution and other extant laws of the land, is the winner of the February 25, 2023, presidential election.

Both Ajayi and Omololu were sacked for allegedly issuing unauthorised statements and constant denigration of the organisation.

5. PDP keeps mum as DSS alleges plot to derail democracy

The Peoples Democratic Party has kept sealed lips over allegations by the the Department of State Services that it has uncovered a plot by political actors to frustrate the inauguration of the President-Elect, Ahmed Tinubu.

The DSS had in a statement yesterday said it had uncovered a plot by political actors to frustrate Tinubu’s inauguration through demonstrations and “frivolous court orders.”

DSS Spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunnaya, had in the statement equally alleged that political actors were plotting to install an interim government.

Attempts to get a reaction from the leading opposition political party, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, were futile.

6. Alleged Interim Government plot criminal, punishable by death – Lawyer

Against the backdrop of an alleged plot by some key political players in the country to install an interim government, a lawyer and scholar on violent extremism, Bulama Bukarti, has described the move as criminal, unconstitutional, and punishable by death.

Bukarti stated this in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.

He said, “This move is undemocratic, it’s illegal, and it’s unconstitutional. Section 1 of our constitution is very clear that no part of Nigeria can be ruled other than by constitutional means;

7. FEC approves N24.2bn free internet for 20 airports, varsities, markets

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved two contracts worth N24.20 billion for the provision of broadband for free internet in 75 public places, including 20 airports, tertiary institutions and markets nationwide.

This was disclosed to State House Correspondents by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, after the Council meeting, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to the various ministers who spoke at the post-FEC media briefing, an aggregate sum of N209.36 billion was approved for various projects.

Giving a breakdown of his own approvals, Pantami said his two memoranda were related, since they both were focused on providing free internet connectivity services, explaining further that the second one was complementary to a similar approval last year.

8. Senate sets up committee to recover N6trn unpaid ground rent

The Senate has set up an ad hoc committee to recover over N6 trillion unpaid ground rate from property owners in the country.

This followed the adoption of a motion by Sen. Yusuf Yusuf (APC-Taraba ) during plenary on Wednesday.

Moving the motion, Yusuf said that the land use act vested ownership rights on the Federal Government over its land in states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

9. Fani-Kayode reacts as DSS raises alarm on Interim Govt plot

Femi Fani-Kayode, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Wednesday said the Department of State Services, DSS, has vindicated him of earlier alarm he raised about a plot by some opposition parties to establish Interim National Government.

The former Minister of Aviation stated this in a tweet while reacting to a security alert by the secret police of plots by some politicians to truncate the country’s democracy by opting for an interim government.

Fani-Kayode claimed he was the first to raise the alarm, lamenting that his revelation only received insults and harassment.

10. EPL: They’ve done well – Robbie Keane predicts club to win title

Tottenham Hotspur legend, Robbie Keane, has predicted that Manchester City will win the Premier League title this season.

Keane, who admitted that Arsenal have done well this season, believed Man City has what it takes to retain the Premier League title.

Arsenal are currently leading on top of the Premier League table with eight points ahead of second-placed Man City.
