1. Attack on Atiku’s convoy false – Borno Police
The Borno State Police Command has debunked the news making the rounds on an attack on the convoy of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.
This was coming after a PDP chieftain, Dino Melaye, reportedly said Atiku’s convoy was attacked when the former Vice President was disembarking the venue of the rally in Borno State on Wednesday, adding that “over 100 vehicles were allegedly vandalised by hoodlums from different political parties and about 74 persons hospitalised.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sani Shatambaya, while addressing newsmen Wednesday, said the purported attack was false.
He said, “The news of the attack on Atiku Abubakar’s convoy was not only fake but a false and mischievous attempt at confusing Nigerians.
2. Ortom apologises over ‘anti-Fulani’ comments
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Wednesday, apologised to Nigerians over his comments which were viewed as anti-Fulani.
Ortom, while hosting aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, under the umbrella of ‘G-5 Governors’ comprising Nyesom Wike (Rivers); Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia); Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) at the Government House, Makurdi had lamented last week’s killing of 18 people in his local government, saying: “To hell with Atiku and anyone supporting him. They should go and tell him. You want me to be a slave for a Fulani. It’s better I die. Anybody supporting Atiku is an enemy of Benue.
“My people are being killed and you want me to be quiet. My tenure ends in May and you can do whatever you want if you think you have the powers. I have written my will. When I gave it to my wife, she cried all night. If I die at 62, many of my mates have gone a long time ago and If I die today, I’m a fulfilled person but let it be recorded that I died resisting the invasion and killing of my people.
“I will never support a Fulani man to become president. If there is another person who is ready to work with me and ensure the security of my people, I will work with him.”
3. Flood: 22 babies delivered in Delta IDPs camps
The Delta State Government has disclosed that total of 22 babies were delivered across the 11 camps in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Patrick Ukah, disclosed this while giving an update on flood situation on Wednesday in Asaba.
He said, “We are here to give you an update on the flood issue in Delta. Now the water is receding and we are planning on how to return them back.
“So far, committee on flood have managed the flood victims in the state. This year flood is far more than what we experienced in 2012.

4. There’s no ESN camp at Okigwe, Amangwu Ohafia – IPOB
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has denied any presence of Eastern Security Network, ESN, camp at Okigwe and Amangwu Ohafia community respectively.
This is coming on the heels of military invasion of Amangwu Ohafia community in hunt of hoodlums who had allegedly taken control of the area.
There were allegations that the hoodlums in the community were members of ESN.
The pro-Biafra movement in a press statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, dissociated IPOB from any group operating any camp in the affected areas.
5. Atiku raises alarm over growing attacks on PDP supporters
The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has raised the alarm over what appears to be an orchestrated attack on PDP campaign rallies by suspected political thugs.
Atiku spoke in a statement signed and issued by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, in Abuja, on Wednesday.
He explained that the presidential campaign rally of the PDP held in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Wednesday was the first to be held in the North East region where the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar hails from.
According to him, the campaign, which was held at the Ramat Square, was attended by a large crowd and many notable leaders of the PDP.
6. Flooding: Switzerland commits $756,000 to support victims
THE government of Switzerland has donated the sum 750, 000 Swiss francs which approximately is 756 000 US dollars to support victims affected by the devastating floods in Nigeria.
A statement issued by the Swiss Embassy in Nigeria, and signed by the Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Nicolas Lang, said the donation was in response to a recent emergency appeal by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, IFRC.
Through this contribution, the IFRC and the Nigerian Red Cross Society would complement the efforts of the Nigerian Government to respond to the crisis.
The floods which have impacted more than three million people across 34 states, claiming at least 600 lives and displacing over 1.5 million people, has attracted concerns from the international community.

7. U.S midterm election: Buhari congratulates Nigerian-Americans on victory
President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated eight Nigerian Americans on their victory in the U.S. midterm elections.
In Georgia State, Segun Adeyina, Gabe Okoye, Solomon Adesanya, Tish Naghise, and Phil Olaleye won their legislative seats as State Representatives in their Districts.
Also, Carol Kazeem won the Pennsylvania State Representative in District 159, Esther Agbaje was re-elected as Minnesota State Representative in District 59B while Dr. Oye Owolewa was re-elected to the U.S. House of Representatives (Shadow Representative) in Washington D.C.
8. 2023: Elect leaders who ‘ll unify us – Sanwo-Olu
Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has urged Nigerians to elect leaders who would take advantage of the country’s rich, multi-cultural heritage and language to unify them.
Sanwo-Olu gave the advice on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the 35th Edition of the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST), held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
He said that rather than seeing the differences in language and culture as a dividing factor, Nigerians should see it as one of the greatest resources to be embraced, celebrated and used for collective advantage.
”As we all know, this is the campaign season as our nation’s general elections has been scheduled to hold within the first quarter of 2023.
”As political office holders continue to engage the electorate at this period, it is important to re-echo the message of unity and peaceful co-existence which NAFEST platform provides.

9. Why things are not working in Nigeria – Peter Obi
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, on Wednesday, assured the people of Benue State that he would ensure the youths become productive if elected into power.
Obi made the statement during a presidential campaign held in Makurdi, the state capital.
The former governor of Anambra State explained that things are not working in the country because the people in power don’t know anything.
“In their productive age, our youth must be productive. That is why I said you will not come to Abuja to tell us what you want us to do; we will come to you, you are the government.
10. 2023 population census to gulp N532.7 billion – NPC boss
The Chairman of the National Population Commission, NPC, Alhaji Nasir Isa Kwarra has disclosed that it would cost the nation the sum of N532.7 billion to effectively conduct a census in 2023.
He gave the disclosure while defending the 2023 budget of the agency when he appeared before the Senate Committee on National Population and Identity Management on Wednesday in Abuja.
The NPC boss who appeared alongside his management team said the amount was purely for the conduct of the 2023 census which he said would be digitally done.
“Aside from the N10 billion budgetary proposal for the 2023 fiscal year earmarked for NPC, the sum of N532.795,604, 726 billion is estimated for the conduct of the 2023 Census,” he stated.
