1. Why I chose Shettima as running mate – Tinubu
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has explained why he chose the former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate in the 2023 presidential election.
Tinubu, who met with the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Abuja on Wednesday, said the choice of Shettima was strategic not religious.
Explaining to the CAN leadership Tinubu said, “Choosing a Christian running mate would have been easy but that is not the case.
“My choice of Shettima is borne out of the urgent need to address the challenges facing the country and Shettima possesses strong leadership abilities which he exhibited when he was the governor of Borno State. I wanted a progressive government that was why I selected Shettima.
2. Zamfara: Abductors kill six-year-old after collecting N2.5m ransom
The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested three persons who allegedly collected N2.5m ransom after killing a six-year-old child they abducted.
Addressing a press conference in Gusau, the state capital, the spokesperson of the state police command, Mohammed Shehu, said the suspects – Kabiru Idi, Danhauwa Kalla and Majami Iliya -kidnapped six-year-old Laminu Sani of the Bulunku area in Gusau town and demanded payment for a ransom.
After collecting the sum of N2.5m, the suspects did not release the child and it was discovered that he was killed.
Shehu said, “On 3rd November 2022, police detectives attached to Anti-Violence Squad arrested the suspects in connection with the kidnapping and suspected murder of a six years old child, Laminu Sani, ‘M’ of Bulunku area, Gusau.
3. Ronaldo to miss W’Cup friendly against Nigeria
Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo is suffering from a stomach bug and will be left out of the team’s World Cup warm-up friendly against Nigeria on Thursday, according to his coach Fernando Santos.
Ronaldo gave an explosive interview to Piers Morgan’s show on TalkTV this week in which he criticised Manchester United and said he had no respect for the coach Erik ten Hag, who has not relied on him much this season.
The striker, 37, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, will not train on Wednesday because of the illness, which has started amid the controversy caused by his interview.
“He is suffering from gastroenteritis and will not train today for this reason,” Santos told a press conference in Lisbon.

4. Army Corporal kills General in Lagos
A soldier in the Nigerian Army, Corporal Abayomi Ebun has hit and killed the Director of Finance at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, NAFRC, Brig. Gen. James, at the NAFRC headquarters in Lagos.
Cpl. Ebun, who works at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, NARC, was said to be on pass and traveled to Lagos to see his family knocked down the NAFRC Finance Director, while driving out of the Barracks.
Brigadier General James who was recently posted to Lagos from Abuja where he worked at the Army Headquarters Garrison was said to walking to his office from his official accommodation both located at the NAFRC headquarters and barracks when the Corporal, said to be speeding and driving recklessly crushed him from behind.
Sources said that immediately after the incident, the senior officer, was swiftly evacuated to the NAFRC Medical Center, where doctors at the Centre confirmed him dead.
5. 2023: Tinubu receiving campaign torch, sign of victory – Dati
The Chief of Staff to the Director-General of the Tinubu/Shettima APC Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. Yakubu Dati has lauded the success of the Presidential campaign flag-off in Plateau State saying it signifies the fact that there is unity of purpose in the APC.
Dati in a statement in Jos on Wednesday noted the occasion served as an eye-opener to some who were monitoring keenly to pick holes in the conduct of the APC team.
According to him, “November 15, 2022, will stand out as a memorable day in the record of political events in Nigeria as it was the day the Tinubu/Shettima APC Presidential Campaign received the nod to set out for the campaigns that will see the duo sworn in as the next President/Vice President of Nigeria.
6. Ill-Health: Convicted ex-pension boss, Maina, loses N1bn suit against FG
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, dismissed a N1billion fundamental right enforcement suit the convicted former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, PRTT, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, filed against the Federal Government.
Maina, who was on November 8, 2021, sentenced to eight years in prison for money laundering, had approached the court, accusing the government of not allowing him to seek medical treatment in a hospital of his choice.
He insisted that he was suffering from a life-threatening ailment that would require urgent medical attention.

7. Tinubu, Atiku, others to parley with school owners
The presidential candidates of All Progressive Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar; Labour Party, Peter Obi and the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, would meet with private school owners in the country.
The meeting, scheduled for November 30, would take place in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
It would be organised by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools(NAPPS) in Nigeria.
NAPPS is the umbrella association for proprietors of private schools in the country with over 50,000 members nationwide.
The National President of NAPPS, Yomi Otubela, made this known on Wednesday at a virtual briefing ahead of the association’s annual international conference and exhibition for this year.
8. Manchester United remove Ronaldo’s poster from Old Trafford
Manchester United have started taking action against Cristiano Ronaldo over his explosive interview with Piers Morgan, in which he blasted several aspects of the club.
Workers have been spotted tearing a large poster featuring Ronaldo from the side of Old Trafford, stirring transfer speculation further.
The 37-year-old has made an aggressive play to leave United by joining ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’ to unleash his pent-up fury on the club.

Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday hosted the leaders of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE).
The delegation, led by Chief Ajibade Oyekan, discussed the growth and development of the South-West region.
The meeting was held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Penthouse residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The former leader endorsed devolution of powers and called for sincerity, unity, decency, diligence and bluntness on issues.
Obasanjo stressed that education without required skills for empowerment and employment would not bring the desired results.

A former Chairman of Saki East Local Government Area in Oyo State, Engineer Dele Adesina, has said that he has dumped the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Adesina noted that he and thousands of his supporters from Oke Ogun geopolitical zone have moved to Accord.
He announced his defection during a visit by the gubernatorial candidate of Accord, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, to his (Adesina) Ago Amodu residence.
Adelabu was accompanied by the Director-General of the party campaign council, Oloye Adegboyega Adegoke and other party chieftains.
