1. ASUU: FG clarifies comment on new committee

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has dismissed the inauguration of a new committee to solve the face-off between the federal government and the university-based staff unions, saying it was an unofficial meeting to review what happened on Tuesday.

The media had been awash with the report of a new committee inaugurated Tuesday after a meeting with the minister.

The members of the committee were said to include Prof. Olu Obafemi,Prof. Nimi Briggs, Udo Udoma, Bashir Dalhatu, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, (University of Ibadan) Prof. Kabir Bala (Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria), Prof. Lilian Salami (University of Benin), Prof. Charles Igwe (University of Nigeria Nsukka), Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede; and representatives of the Academy of Letters, Science, Medicine and Social Sciences.

However, the minister speaking on Channels TV Politics Today said that it was just an unofficial meeting to discuss and review what had happened in an earlier meeting.

2. INEC begins ad hoc staff recruitment Sept 14

The Independent National Electoral Commission has said its portal for recruitment of ad-hoc staff for the 2023 general elections would be opened from September 14.

The commission disclosed this in a letter signed by A.T Yusuf, for the INEC Secretary, on Wednesday.

Yusuf said the portal would be closed on December 14, 2022 by 8:00pm.

According to the letter, the exercise, which will be launched through INECPRES, will be opened to others categories of ad-hoc staff except collation/returning officers.

3. Court arraigns 35-year-old man for sexual assault

A 35-year-old man, Odili Chukwuka, on Wednesday appeared before the Children and Sexual Offences Court sitting in Amawbia, Anambra State, for allegedly assaulting a 17-year-old girl sexually.

Chukwuka and others at large were accused of sexually abusing the 17-year-old by touching and applying pepper to her private part.

The accused, who hails from Aguluezechukwu in Aguata Local Government Area of the state, is facing a nine-count charge of sexual abuse, unlawful assault, stealing and infliction of physical injury.
He pleaded not guilty to the nine-count charges.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Anayo Nwano, told the court that the offences were committed on July 28 at Aguluezechukwu.

He said, “The accused and others at large sexually abused a 17-year-old girl by touching and applying pepper to her private part.

4. Police recruitment portal still running — PSC

The Police Service Commission (PSC) says its recruitment portal for constables into the Nigeria Police is still running with over 60,000 applications received.

Mr Ikecchukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations PSC said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said the commission had no intention to abdicate its constitutional mandate to recruit Nigerians into the Police Force.

Ani called on interested Nigerians to continue to avail themselves of the opportunity to pursue a career in the Nigeria Police Force.

He said the portal, which was opened on Aug. 15, would be closed on Aug. 26.

5. Police officers protest non-payment of salaries in Osun

No fewer than 480 Police Constables protested the non-payment of their salaries for 18 months on Wednesday in Osogbo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the constables marched through strategic locations in the Osun capital, carrying placards with various inscriptions.

Some of the inscriptions read: “Pay our salaries now’’, “Okada riders are sleeping with our wives’’, “Pay us our stipends and allowances’’, among others.

Speaking with newsmen, PC Tijani Adewale said the constables had been denied their salaries after the completion of their training since May 2021.

He said in spite of the denial of their emoluments, they had remained committed to the duty of protecting lives and property.

6. I ‘ve no disagreement with Adamu – Tinubu

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Presidential Candidate for 2023 poll, says he has no disagreement with the party’s National Chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, contrary to some media reports.

Tinubu said this when he spoke with newsmen after a visit to the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.

He described the reports as fake news.

7. We are determined to fix Nigeria- Tinubu

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured he is determined to turn Nigeria to a progressive, highly developed and prosperous nation.

He gave the assurance on Wednesday at the party’s national secretariat during a meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) ahead of the kickoff of the presidential campaign on September 28.

Tinubu also promised to ensure the full democratisation of the country so that it can remain the beckon of democracy of the black race in the world.

8. 2023: INEC begins recruitment of ad hoc staff

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened a portal for the recruitment of adh oc Staff for the 2023 general elections.

It urged eligible Nigerians to apply for the different positions that were stipulated

The announcement was posted on the verified Tweeter handle of the Commission, @inecnigeria.

The window for the recruitment will officially close on November 30, 2022.
