1. Census: Adeleke unveils inter-ministerial committee

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has inaugurated an inter-ministerial committee that would ensure that the state was well represented in the forthcoming 2023 National Population and Housing Census.

The Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, who inaugurated the committee on behalf of Adeleke on Monday in Osogbo, stated that all the relevant agencies would be involved in the planning and execution of the census to ensure success.

Adeleke who noted that Osun was under-represented in the figures published for the 1991 National Population Census, said the committee was put together to ensure that facts and figures about the state were correctly compiled during the exercise.

2. Minority languages may soon go into extinction, says don

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) at the University of Jos, Prof. Rahila Gowon on Monday raised fears that minority languages in Nigeria may soon go into extinction because they do not have autography.

According to her, such was also the reason why the implementation of the National Language Policy of the Federal Government has been complex.

Gowon stated these in an interview with journalists after declaring open the first international conference on language and literature with the theme, “Language Communication and Literature in an Uncertain and turbulent world,” organised by the Department of English, UNIJOS, where she represented the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya.

3. JAMB extends direct entry registration till April 28

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced the extension of direct entry registration till April 28.

The board in a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs, Fabian Benjamin, on Monday, noted that the extension is partly to give holders of Cambridge A/Level certificates sufficient time to complete their registration.

Recall that the Board, after a series of discoveries of falsification of A/Level results, modified its DE registration platform to ensure, among others, that only certificates with verifiable processes are allowed as entry requirements for the DE exercise.

4. Sokoto: 33-year-old ex-student activist, Gorau defeats 4th term Rep

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, House of Representatives candidate in Gada-Goronyo Federal Constituency, Usman Gorau, has defeated his All Progressives Congress, APC, counterpart, Musa Adar.

The 33-year-old is a former Senate President and National Vice President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, SSA on Students Matters, and Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sokoto State.

In a Facebook post, Gorau thanked God for facilitating his victory at the polls.

5. Stop this Adamawa show of shame, PDP Govs tell INEC

The Aminu Tambuwal-led Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, has condemned in the strongest possible term what it describes as the ongoing show of shame in Adamawa State over the Supplementary Governorship election.

The PDP GF urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to put a stop to the apparent lawlessness by purging itself of corrupt and clearly partisan members of staff.

This demand was contained in a statement signed by the forum’s Director General, Hon. C.I.D. Maduabum, in Abuja, late on Monday.

He said, “The attempted electoral heist and brigandage perpetrated by the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Hudu Yunusa, is perhaps the lowest point of the 2023 General elections.

6. Unknown armed men abduct eight in Benue community

At least eight persons have been reportedly abducted by unknown armed men at Atamka community in Owukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue State.

It was gathered from a source in the area that the armed men laid an ambush in the community on Saturday and Sunday for people returning from church along Atamka/Ugbudu road linking Obollo Afor in Enugu State.

The source disclosed that the armed men had earlier abducted a security personnel on Saturday but “the other seven people were abducted on Sunday while they returning from church.”
