1. Buhari mourns Kalu’s wife

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), sympathises with former Governor of Abia State and Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Kalu, over the death of his wife, Ifeoma, 61.

The President through his Special Adviser, Media & Publicity, Femi Adesina, commiserates with Senator Kalu and Ifeoma’s family, friends and associates, urging trust in God for comfort and care during the very difficult period of pain and deep reflection.

The statement said Buhari believed that the testimonies of the late wife’s fear of God and charity should provide strength for the family, knowing that she lived well, and served the will of the Almighty.

2. Ex-NAF spokesperson Maigida dies

The former Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, has died, The PUNCH reports.

Maigida reportedly slumped and died on Sunday in Abuja.

He assumed office as DOPRI on January 6, 2023, taking over from his predecessor, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, who is now the Commander 551 NAF Station, Jos.

Coincidentally, Maigida handed over to Gabkwet as Commander NAF Station, Jos.

3. Lawan condoles with Kalu over wife’s death

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has expressed shock over the death of  Ifeoma, the first wife of the Senate chief whip, senator Orji Kalu.

Lawan further stated that he was saddened by the news of the death of the wife of the Senate Chief Whip.

Kalu had in a statement on Monday announced the passing on of his first wife.

In a statement he personally signed, Kalu said, “With a heavy heart and pain, we announce the passing on to eternal glory of Mrs Ifeoma Ada Kalu, aged 61 years.

4. Benue govt secures N84bn debt cancellation from FG

The Benue State Government has secured an N84billion debt cancellation deal from the Federal Government to drastically reduce the overall debt burden of the state.

The Benue State Commissioner of Finance, Mr. David Olofu who made this known Monday at the end of State Executive Council, SEC, meeting presided over by Governor Samuel Ortom in Makurdi said the feat was achieved through a debt swap agreement.

The Commissioner explained that the funds deployed for the swap were monies belonging to the states and the Federal Government that the Federal Government unilaterally used without approval which was being refunded and the Ortom led administration opted to have it deployed to cancel all debts the state owed the Federal Government to help the incoming government start on a clean slate.

5. Reps Speakership: PDP’s hope of alliance suffers setback as Wike, Ibori back Wase

Ahead of the June inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, plots by the country’s main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP to mobilize its members and other minority parties in the House of Representatives for relevance suffered a major setback on Monday following the decision of two of its leaders to support the ruling party.

Both the Rivers State governor,  Nyesom Wike and a former governor of Delta State, James Ibori have thrown their weight behind the incumbent Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Idris Wase.

6. Rivers PDP calls for arrest of APC gov candidate Tonye Cole

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP has called for the arrest of the governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Tonye Cole.

The PDP Publicity Secretary, Rivers State, Sydney Gbara made this call while speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Monday.

Gbara accused the APC cadidate of desperation.

7. Tinubu commiserates with Kalu over wife’s death

The President-elect Asíwájú Bola Tinubu has sympathised with Senate Chief Whip Orji Uzor Kalu over the passage of his first wife, Mrs. Ifeoma Ada Kalu, at 61.

While noting that the death of a loved one, like a wife, is painful and saddening, he urged the former Abia Governor to accept the loss as the will of God.

“Please be consoled by the memories of the good time you both shared and the fact that the late Mrs. Ifeoma Kalu lived most of her life in the service of God and humanity,” the President-elect said in a statement on Monday from his office.

8. Court grants interim forfeiture of N725m, Banana Island property linked to ex-NIMASA D-G

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos Monday granted an order of interim forfeiture of N725,345,897.77 and Plot J 37A 218 Close, 2nd Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, allegedly diverted from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

Justice Tijjani Ringim made the order sequel to a motion ex parte filed and argued by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsel, Bilkisu Buhari.

Buhari told the judge that the sum was reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activity, while the property was reasonably suspected to have been acquired with proceeds of unlawful activity.

Rivers United head coach, Stanley Eguma has expressed displeasure with his team’s performance against ASEC Mimosa of Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday

Rivers United came second in the group with 10 points, while ASEC Mimosa top the standings with 13 points.

10. Nantes boss, Kombouare drops African player from squad for refusing to break Ramadan fast

Nantes boss Antoine Kombouare has dropped Algerian footballer Jaouen Hadjam from his squad for their Ligue 1 clash against Reims after the player refused to break his Ramadan fast.

The 20-year-old Hadjam joined the Ligue 1 side in a three-and-a-half-year contract from Paris FC in January.

He has so far played nine league games for the club but was not named in their squad for Sunday’s fixture against Reims.
