1. Katsina: Police kill terrorists in gun battle
The Katsina State Police Command on Monday evening said an unidentified number of terrorists were believed to have been killed earlier in the day during a gun battle with its operatives in two simultaneous operations in Kurfi Local Government Area of the state.
The encounters were at Dadawa and Barkiya villages in the council.
The spokesman for the command, Gambo Isah, made the revealation on Monday evening.
He said the encounters occured at 1.30pm, adding that 74 sheep, 34 goats and, two goats earlier rustled by the terrorists were rescued.
2. APC group protests Muslim-Muslim ticket, seeks Shettima’s replacement
Hundreds of stakeholders and party supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress on Monday took to the streets of Lagos to protest the party’s stance on the contentious Muslim-Muslim ticket.
The demonstrators, under the aegis of the Coalition of APC Stakeholders Network and Southwest Supporters of Tinubu, began their peaceful walk from the popular Shoprite Shopping Mall in Ikeja to the State House in the Central Business District area of Alausa.
Chanting solidarity songs, the protesters walked through the heavy traffic created by the demonstration while displaying several banners that read ‘Dear Baba Asiwaju, Let Shettima Step Down in Yoruba Interest’, ‘President Buhari and Tinubu should rethink Muslim-Muslim ticket’, and ‘Tinubu, replace Shettima with Christian VP to balance the ticket.’
The development is coming barely one month after a similar protest rocked the APC secretariat in Abuja.
3. Fulani group rejects Miyetti Allah’s comments on Obi
A Fulani professional group, Coalition of Fulbe Professionals in Africa, Monday, distanced itself from a statement credited to one Alhaji Alhasan Salah, said to be National Secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, embarking on a campaign of calumny against the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi. The group described the move as “politically sponsored.”
The organisation called on Nigerians to disregard any statement from Miyetti Allah Kauta Hore, saying it did not speak for Fulani ethnic group or represented the Fulani in any way.
Alhasan had, in an interview with a national newspaper, said the Fulani nation would not support the candidature of Obi, describing him not only as a tribal bigot but also as someone who did not like the North, and by extension, the Fulani tribe.
“As far as Miyetti Allah is concerned, Obi is out of the options of persons to be voted for in the forthcoming elections.

4. Rivers PDP guber primary losers plotting my downfall — Wike
GOVERNOR Nyesom Wike on Monday alleged some aggrieved losers in the Rivers state People Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary for 2023 governorship which produced former State Account General, Sim Fubara as candidate are now leading an Abuja plot for his downfall.
Wike during activities to celebrate former Governor Peter Odili at 74, pointed at some of the party leaders who, on his 2021 birthday, indicated interest to fly the ticket, but failed in the end as spearheading the gang up against him.
At the birthday reception held at a new Old Government Residential Area, Port Harcourt, private residence donated by the Rivers government to Dr. Odili, Wike narrated that, “On my last birthday, 12 midnight, some of our elders called to see me. They said they came to wish me happy birthday.
“Then, they presented me a letter that I should run for president. All of them including Dr. Abiye (Sekibo) signed the document. I say okay, you people too should go and give me someone who will be governor after me. They all sat there, looking left and right.
5. 2023: RTEAN President throws weight behind APC, Tinubu
The National President, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Alhaji Musa Muhammed, on Monday threw his support behind APC and its presidential candidate, Sen. Bola Tinubu in 2023 general elections.
Muhammed, who was recently elected as the National Treasurer, Trade Union Congress (TUC), made this known in a statement in Lagos by the National Publicity Secretary of the union, Alhaji Abdulrahman Amusan.
Muhammed, who is also the Lagos State Chairman of RTEAN said that he had always come out in support of the APC since 2015, and 2023 would not be an exception.

6. 416 night accidents occur in 8 months, 97 die in Lagos — FRSC
The Lagos Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, said on Monday that the agency’s records indicated that 416 accidents occurred in eight months during night driving.
Ogungbemide spoke during a media conference held in Lagos on Monday.
The conference came following the increasing rate of Road Traffic Crashes due to recklessness and other factors on the part of drivers.
He said that the 416 crashes were recorded between 6.00 p.m to 6.00 a.m from January to August

7. Shell discharges five barrels of oil into Rivers environment
The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) Limited has discharged five barrels of crude oil from the Trans Niger Pipeline into the Bodo community in Gokana Local Government Area, Rivers State.
A Joint Investigation (JIV) report signed by the host community, National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) Rivers State Ministry of Environment and SPDC, disclosed the development.
The JIV report said Shell’s TNP discharged 98 water and two percent crude into Bodo following the ongoing flushing of the TNP, with the residual crude oil of about five barrels.
SPDC spokesperson Michael Adande said the impact of the spill, both within and outside the SPDC JV right of way, was minimal since the TNP had not transported crude oil since mid-June 2022.
8. PDP crisis: I’ve no plans to resign, Ayu declares
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Iyiochia Ayu has stated he has no plans to resign.
He said he will not resign now or in the foreseeable future having been given a four-year mandate to lead the opposition party.
There has been pressure on Ayu to resign in line with an alleged agreement he entered into prior to his emergence to step down if the presidential candidate emerges from the north.

9. 2023: Ebonyi APC orders immediate arrest of Agom-Eze over alleged anti-party, perjury
The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Ebonyi State chapter, on Monday, ordered immediate arrest of one Mrs. Ann Agom-Eze, a senatorial rival to Governor David Umahi over alleged anti-party and perjury against the party in the state.
The state chairman of the party, Mr. Stanley Okoro Emegha, made this known while speaking to journalists in Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi State.
He called on the Nigeria Police to arrest Mr. Agom-Eze anyplace, she is sighted for attempting to cause crisis and division in the party.
Emegha noted further that it is impossible for Ann Agom-Eze to fly the Ebonyi South Senatorial ticket of APC in the state.
10. EFCC arrests brothers, 23 others for alleged internet fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two brothers and 23 others for suspected internet fraudsters.
The suspects are Aregbesola Tobiloba, Oladosu Saheed, Oseni Omotara, Abel Durotimi, Oyeneye Rilwan Adetola, Oyewole Damilola, Ovin Adekunle, Ovin Nicholas, Ridwan Iyiola, Sylvester Evans.
Adekanye Ayodeji Ezekiel, Osagie Harry Odosa, Arowolo Oluwafemi Isaac, Omoregbe Destiny Nosa, Evbonaye Olaleye, Adeyemo Abiola, Temitope Ajetonmobi, Dare-Ilori Oreoluwa David.
The rest included Oshokoya Olaoluwa Muritalah, Omotoye Collins Oluwaseun, Hassan Abdulwahab Oladimeji, Agbaje Jackson Babatunde, Owolabi Temiloluwa Dominion, Fadipe Biodun Idris and Agbayo Moshood Oriyomi.
