1. Admit returnee Nigerians with expired passport — NIS
The Nigeria Immigration Service on Monday announced that Nigerians returning to Nigeria can be admitted into the country with their expired Nigerian passports.
This was contained in a memo addressed to all Heads of Missions, Immigration Attachés, Airports Comptroller and Airlines.
According to the memo which was signed by the Special Assistant to the Comptroller General (Foreign Desk), DCI BM Lawal for the Comptroller-General of the Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede, all airlines are requested to allow holders with expired Nigerian passports to board without any hindrance.
The memo reads, “I am directed to respectfully present the compliments of the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service and notify all relevant authorities that the Federal government of Nigeria has approved that Nigerians returning home can be admitted into the country with their expired Nigerian passports.
“Consequently, all Airlines are requested to allow holders of expired Nigerian passports to board without any hindrance.”
2. Politicians buying PVCs from voters – INEC
Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Independent National Electoral Commission, on Monday, accused some politicians of buying up Permanent Voter Cards and financially inducing voters to harvest their Voter Identification Numbers.
The commission also said that two persons have been recently convicted for illegal possession of PVCs in Sokoto and Kano states.
The acting chairman of INEC and National Commissioner, overseeing the FCT, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Plateau states, Mohammed Haruna, raised the alarm in Abuja, on Monday, during the launch of the #YourVoteMatters project by an election observer group, NESSACTION.
The project was supported by the International Foundation for Electoral System; the United States Agency for International Development and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
3. W’Cup: US seizes 55 websites for illegal live-streaming
Fifty-five websites have been seized for illegally live-streaming matches from the World Cup in Qatar, the United States Justice Department said Monday.
The websites were shut down after a FIFA representative identified sites being used to distribute copyright-infringing content without the authorization of the soccer world governing body, the department said in a statement.
FIFA holds exclusive rights to the World Cup, which has reached the semi-final stage.
“While many may believe that such websites do not constitute serious threats, the infringement upon rights holders of any intellectual property is a growing threat to our economic viability,” said special agent James Harris of the Homeland Security Department.

4. Lagos 2023: I’ll form govt with Ndigbos — Jandor
The Lagos PDP Governorship Candidate, Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor), has assured Ndigbo in Lagos State of his resolve to from an all-inclusive government and stop all harassment against them in markets.
Adediran said this at an interactive meeting with Ndigbo leaders at the palace of Eze Ndigbo of Ikeja Local Government, Lagos on Monday.
The Lagos PDP gubernatorial candidate noted that the prosperity of the state could be linked to the investment of Ndigbo in Lagos State.
“I am here to assure the Igwe that this time around, the party that you love, will jointly form the government of Lagos State with you in 2023.
“Although, we know it is difficult for one to have been working all over the years with no results, l appeal to you that this is not the time to give up.
5. FG says pre, post-arrival covid-19 tests unnecessary for travellers
As the prevalence of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria and most parts of the world remains at a low level for a sustained period, the Federal Government, FG, through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has said pre-arrival or post-arrival testing for COVID-19 was no longer required for travellers irrespective of vaccination status.
This was made known in an All Operators Letter, AOL, addressed to Aviation Service providers by the Director General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Captain Musa S. Nuhu, on Monday, in Abuja.
The letter partly reads: “COVID-19 Travel Testing: Pre-departure and post-arrival COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction tests are no longer required for all passengers irrespective of vaccination status. The PCR tests required for all passengers who are partial/not fully vaccinated have been suspended.”
6. 2023: INEC commences nationwide distribution of PVCs
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday, commenced the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) at its local government offices nationwide.
The News Agency of Nigeria reporter who monitored the collection of the PVCs in FCT, reports that the exercise commenced simultaneously at INCE, FCT headquarters and its six area council offices.
NAN reports that some of the registered voters in their hundreds were seen on the queue at the gate at INEC FCT state office for the collection of their cards.
NAN reports that the collection was done in wards in the FCT, depending on the mode of registration, including those who did fresh registration, transfers, requested for replacement and others.

7. Workers to Adeleke: offset Aregbesola’s arrears
Osun State workers, under the aegis of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), has appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke to offset the salary owed its members by the Rauf Aregbesola administration.
They spoke at the weekend in Osogbo at the 32nd annual congress and presentation of educational blueprint to the governor.
ANCOPSS President Mr. Akinropo Ijaodola admonished the new administration to take their welfare more seriously and improve on the quality of education.
8. ‘Fed Govt lost N16tr through tax waivers, exemptions’
Between 2020 and this year, a total of N16.4 trillion has been lost as a result of tax waivers and exemptions handed by the Federal Government.
A Non- Governmental Organisation (NGO), Centre for Social Justice, made this known in its report entitled: ‘Frivolous, Inappropriate, Unclear and Wasteful estimates in the 2023 Federal appropriation bill’.
Eze Onyekpere, Lead Director, Centre for Social Justice in the report submitted to the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), said “from 2020 to 2022, a total of N16.4trillion revenue was foregone as tax expenditure while FGN and the states continued to pile up debts”.
Foregone revenue refers to tax waivers, concessions and money which should have accrued to Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) or the Federation Account which was waived and will no longer be collected.

The Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila have appealed to governors to allow the 44 constitution alteration bills sent to the States Houses of Assembly to scale through.
The two lawmakers made the plea on Monday at Distinguished Parliamentarians Lecture 2022 series organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) in Abuja on Monday.
It would be recalled that there is a current face-off between the governors and the federal lawmakers over the State Police bill rejected by the National Assembly.
The governors, who want the lawmakers to sign the reconsider the police bill, have reportedly gave a condition that the state police bill must be reconsidered or States Assembly won’t proceed with the amendment process.
