1. Sambo, Makarfi vow to unseat APC in Kaduna
Ahead of the 2023 general election, former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Kaduna governors Ahmed Makarfi and Ramalan Yero have vowed to unseat the All Progressives Congress from power in the state.
They made the vow at the official flag-off and presentation of flags to candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District for the various positions in the elections.
This was as the senatorial candidate of the party for Kaduna Central, Lawal Adamu, who recently triumphed at the Supreme Court to reclaim the seat, was officially handed over the flag of the PDP as its candidate.
Sambo, who was the special guest of honour at the flag off, called on Nigerians and the good people of Kaduna State to come out en masse to vote for all the PDP candidates in the elections.
2. Abuja airport second runway to be completed by May 29 –Minister
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Muhammad Bello, and the Minster of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on Monday visited the construction site of the second runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.
The ministers charged the construction company in charge of the project, to double efforts and ensure that the project was completed before the handover date of the current administration on May 29, 2023.
Speaking during the visit, the aviation minister thanked the FCT minister for the allocation of the 12,000 hectares of land given for the project, adding that the project was meant to be an aviation city, containing everything a modern city has, including hotels, shopping malls, schools, cinemas and hospitals.
He described the project as a legacy project which would boost economic activities not just in the FCT, but across the country, while disclosing that the facilities would also include a cargo hub, and serve as the hub for the national carrier.
3. Edo: Petroleum marketers suspend planned strike
The Edo State chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has suspended its planned strike action which was scheduled to commence on Monday following the intervention of the state government.
The Commissioner for Mining and Energy, Ethan Uzamere, who disclosed this in Benin said efforts were ongoing to meet the other requests made by the marketers in the state.
He said, “The Edo State chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has put a halt to its planned state-wide strike action that was scheduled to begin today, Monday, February 20, 2023, following the intervention of the state government.
“The decision was taken by the independent marketers after a very productive deliberation between the body, the Edo State Government, and the Nigerian Midstream & Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) Edo State Office.

4. Naira scarcity: I don’t have new note as Governor – Adeleke
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has disclosed that the continuous scarcity of new naira notes is creating hardship on the people, saying even as a governor, he does not have the redesigned currency.
While lamenting over the suffering the increasing scarcity has unleashed on the people of the state, he said This is as he stated that he has been deploying state network to douse tension and ensure safety of banks and the CBN state office.
Addressing CBN officials in his office on Monday, Governor Adeleke decried the increasing shortage of the new notes, calling on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to sanction financial institutions involved in such anti-people activities.
“The situation is getting out of hand. The CBN must act fast. Any bank hoarding the new notes must be sanctioned. We should not treat such banks with kid gloves.”
5. APGA Leadership Crisis: Supreme Court fixes March 24 for ruling
The Supreme Court, on Monday, fixed March 24 to decide on the leadership crisis rocking the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
A five-member panel of the apex court adjourned to rule on a motion that was brought before it by a factional National Chairman of the party, Chief Edozie Njoku.
Njoku had in an application he filed through his team of lawyers led by Mr. Chike Onyemenam, SAN, urged the apex court to correct a typographical error in its judgement, which he said wrongly handed the leadership of the party to Chief Victor Oye.
6. Ekweremadu’s organ harvesting trial continues, victim testifies
The trial of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, continued today (Monday) at the Old Bailey court in Central England, the United Kingdom.
Ekweremadu is standing trial over an alleged plot to harvest the kidney of a 22-year-old street trader.
The lawmaker is being tried alongside his wife – Beatrice, 25-year-old daughter Sonia, and a doctor, Obinna Obeta.
They are accused of conspiring to exploit the man for his organ.

7. ‘Obidients’ curse to Obi – Omokri
Reno Omokri, media aide to the former President Goodluck Jonathan, has said the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s supporters tagged ‘Obidients’ are a curse to him.
Well-known for his criticisms against opposition parties as well as their candidates, the Peoples Democratic Party’s ardent supporter accused the ‘Obidients’ of being unnecessarily and terrifyingly aggressive.
He noted their ‘unruly’ behaviour has instigated fear in their principal who he claimed was afraid of winning the elections because of the uncertainty of what might happen if he won surrounded by such kind of supporters.
He tweeted: “Obidients are a curse to Obi. The man himself is not so bad. But with the behaviour of Obidients, you are afraid of what will become of Nigeria if power gets to their hands. Many are just unnecessarily and scarily aggressive. May power never get to their hands!”
8. CBN recirculates old mutilated N200 notes
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has confirmed it has released more N200 notes to banks to dispense to members of the public.
But the apex bank was silent on how much of the N200 banknotes it released.
However, most of the N200 released to the banks are old mutilated notes collected from the public at the peak of the cash swap programme.
A staff of the CBN told The Nationthe volume of N200 notes in circulation has increased following last week’s directive by President Muhammadu Buhari that the banknote be re-circulated.

9. 150 Nigerians repatriated from Niger Republic
The Federal Government, in collaboration with International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), has repatriated 150 stranded Nigerians from (Niamey) Niger Republic.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, disclosed this while receiving the returnees at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano on Monday.
Umar-Farouq, represented by Director of Humanitarian Affairs in the Ministry, Grema Ali, said the returnees arrived at the airport at about 3:45 p.m.
The returnees were transported into Nigeria by the SKY MALI Airlines, operated by Ethiopian aviation industry.
10. 2023 elections: New AIG assures Akwa Ibom, Cross River of adequate security
The newly appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 6, Jonathan Towuru has assured the people of Akwa Ibom and Cross River states of adequate security, before, during and after the general elections.
His assurance was contained in a statement signed by the Zone 6 Police Command PRO, SP Nelson Okpabi which conveyed Towuru’s formal resumption of duty at the command.
He further urged Nigerians in the two states, which make up the command, to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies in the area of information sharing to enable them to provide the desired citizen-led policing.
Towuru succeeded AIG Okunlola Kola Kamaldeen who retired recently.
