1. Japa: FG warns against illegal migration 

The Federal Government on Monday warned Nigerians, especially the youths against illegal migration to Europe and other parts of the world, popularly known in local parlance as ‘Japa’ saying the consequences including bad treatment abroad were very disastrous.

While insisting that it does not encourage irregular migration, the government advised that Nigerians who desire to move should do so within the confines of the law.

The Director Economic Trade and Investment in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Akinremi Bolaji, stated these in Abuja during the launch of EuroAfrica Polish Language Center.

2. EU to deploy 100 observers for 2023 polls 

The European Union Election Observation Mission has said that 100 observers would be deployed for the 2023 polls.

The Chief Observer, EU EOM, Barry Andrews stated this during the launch of the EU EOM to Nigeria 2023, in Abuja on Monday.

Andrews said the EU EOM was deployed by the EU following an invitation from the Independent National Electoral Commission and it started its work on 11 January, 2023 with the arrival of a core team of 11 experts with competencies in various aspects of elections.

3. Foreign elements using Boko Haram to destroy Nigeria – Buhari 

The President, Major General  Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Monday in Kano State alleged that some foreign elements are suspected to be part of the conspiracy by using Boko Haram to destroy the country.

Buhari, who made the disclosure during a lunch, held in his honour at Kano Government House said, “it is unfortunate that Boko Haram stopped the country from tapping its resources in Lake Chad Basin.

“We have shown Nigerians and the rest of the world that we have so many natural resources.

He recalled how Boko Haram insurgents took over the control of 17 Local Government Areas in Borno State out of the 27 local governments.

4. INEC publishes ‘Notice of Polls’, declares, ‘we’re good to go’

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC on Monday published the Notice of Polls for the 2023 General Election.

This was as it undertook a self-audit of its preparations for the polls and declared that it was good to go.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu made the declaration when he received in audience the President and Chief Executive Officer CEO of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems IFES, Mr. Anthony N. Banbury.

So far, the Commission has successfully implemented 12 out of 14 activities in the Timetable and Schedule of Activities

5. UBA appoints Abiola Bawuah, 1st female CEO 

The Board of Directors of the United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) has appointed Mrs Abiola Bawuah as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the bank.

The bank announced the appointment in a statement on Monday, adding that Bawuah would also join the Group Board as an Executive Director, overseeing the Group’s operations across the African continent.

Bawuah, who is a Ghanaian, is the first female CEO of UBA Africa.

The statement said prior to her appointment, Bawuah was Regional CEO, West Africa, supervising the Group’s operations in nine subsidiaries, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Senegal, and Sierra Leone.

6. New currency hoarding: We have to go into banks’ strong rooms – CBN 

CENTRAL Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has said it would have to go into strong rooms of commercial banks to ascertain possible hoarding and other unhealthy conducts among challenges making it difficult for people to access the new currency notes.

Maxwell Okafor, Branch Controller, CBN in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, gave the explanation yesterday over the apex bank’s ongoing direct cash swap for residents in Rivers, especially those without bank accounts.

Okafor who assured that the direct swap would last till the deadline on naira exchange, said, “The sincere truth is that the situation is not smooth. Many of the banks are making the process too cumbersome.

7. I will deliver Ibom Deep Seaport, Tinubu assures 

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has promised to harness the enormous natural endowments in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria for general prosperity.

He promised to deliver the Ibom Deep Seaport if elected. He spoke on Monday at the 35,000-capacity Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo.

An excited crowd of APC supporters welcomed him to the packed facility with the shout of ‘’Jagaban’’ rending the air.

8. LASU Senate elects Omobitan new Deputy VC 

The Senate of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, on Monday elected Prof. Olufunsho Omobitan as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of the University.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Omobitan defeated the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Raheem Akewushola, by 132 votes to 65.

Mr Emmanuel Fanu, Registrar of LASU, announced Omobitan, a Professor of Economics and current Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences of the University,  as the winner.

9. 2023 polls: Massive turnout in Igbo-Etiti as Nwodo, others commend Gov. Ugwuanyi, back PDP candidates

A former Governor of old Enugu State and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo and the former Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Ezenwata Okechukwu Itanyi have expressed satisfaction with the performance of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in office in spite of the nation’s economic, security and public health challenges.

They went on to declare their unalloyed support for the governor’s quest to represent Enugu North Senatorial District in the National Assembly on the platform of the PDP.

The duo, who are from Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, also expressed satisfaction with the profile, vision, credibility and action plan of the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and reiterated their support for his candidature.

10. Ebubeagu operative allegedly kills colleague over N1000 during APC rally in Ebonyi 

An operative of Ebubeagu security outfit, whose name is yet to be identified, allegedly shot dead a colleague, one Ajasm Aja, N1000 from a campaign rally that took place at Isu community in Onicha LGA headquarters of Ebonyi State.

It was gathered that Aja was shot dead by his colleague resulting from a controversy that trailed the sharing formula of money given to them during the All Progressives Congress, APC, campaign rally.

DAILY POST reports that the late Aja and his assailant were part of the Ebubeagu team drafted to Isu community to provide security at the APC governorship rally in the area.

It was gathered that the deceased had an altercation with his trigger-happy colleague over an amount of money, which each, was to get over N1000
