1. Obi: Obasanjo attempting to foist puppet – Bwala
The spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, Daniel Bwala, has labelled former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a “meddlesome interloper”, who is striving to force a puppet on Nigerians.
Bwala made the allegation when he appeared on Politics Today, a popular programme on Channels Television on Monday.
Obasanjo had stirred the hornet nest in his New Year’s message when he openly endorsed that former Anambra State governor and Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, in the letter.
But Bwala, who spoke from his London location, accused Obasanjo of being the only one of five surviving past leaders meddling in the affairs of the country.
2. Obasanjo attacking Buhari out of frustration, Presidency claims
The Presidency, on Monday, said former President Olusegun Obasanjo is verbally attacking the Buhari regime “out of frustration.”
It also described Obasanjo’s attitude to the President as “vengeful”.
“‘Hell’ for Obasanjo is when a President, any President that comes after him refuses to be his own puppet, to do as he wishes on all matters and at all times.
“He then keeps attacking out of frustration. Obasanjo’s vengeful attitude towards President Buhari is the height of selfishness and little short of moral squalor,” the Presidency said in a statement signed by Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
3. Obi’s endorsement: Nigerians shouldn’t trust Obasanjo – S’West group
A South-West political organisation under the aegis of Conscience Bureau, on Monday, called on Nigerians to ignore the “curious” endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The South-West group warned that Nigerians must beware of such an endorsement.
It, however, added that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abubakar Atiku, can be trusted with the task of changing the negative narratives of Nigeria with the current challenges.
A statement issued by the General Secretary of CB, Said Ologuneru, recalled that when the All Progressives Congress led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu and its other leaders went to seek Obasanjo’s endorsement then for the President, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)’s presidential ambition on December 13, 2013, Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, acting on his premonition, said that such an endorsement could lead the nation to a shipwreck.
He said going by what Nigerians have gone through between 2015 and now, under the APC presidency, it was apparent that the country had experienced a shipwreck, as Soyinka predicted, warning Nigerians not to allow a repeat of that horrible experience.

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Femi Ajakaye, has called on Nigerians to shun vote selling and vote buying.
Bishop Ajakaye, said “as individuals and groups, we must never allow the incessant inglorious vote selling and vote buying at this year elections
“We must get back our beloved country, Nigeria, from the few who think they are owners. We, the people, are the original owners”.
5. Stop listening to devil’s whispering, Adeleke tells Oyetola
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has urged his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola to stop listening to Devil’s whispering on a possible return to governorship, saying God does not support electoral banditry and deceit.
Oyetola had during a welcome prayer organised for him but All Progressives Congress, APC leaders and supporters in the state capital earlier on Monday said God has promised him of return as Governor in the state.
However, Adeleke in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed reminded former Governor Oyetola that there is life after losing the election, adding that Osun people have moved and are now enjoying “a new governance of openness, accountability, and responsiveness to yearnings and aspirations of the citizenry.
6. Obi’s endorsement, affirmation of Obasanjo’s dream of better Nigeria – LP
Labour Party has described Sunday’s endorsement of its Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi by former Nigeria President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as an affirmation by the former President of having a better Nigeria after the 2023 elections.
The party in a release signed by its erstwhile acting National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Abayomi Oluwafemi Arabambi, and made available to Vanguard in Abeokuta, said the endorsement affirmed the fatherly role the former President has been playing in ensuring that Nigeria overcomes her present socio-economic and political challenges
The party said the former President who had to steer the ship of the country at the highest level, knows Nigeria inside out, including the current office seekers, hence when Baba Obasanjo speaks, he knows what he is saying, so the endorsement is a welcome step.

7. Military gets kudos for ensuring peaceful yuletide
Troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have been commended for their role in ensuring a peaceful yuletide for Nigerians, especially the Christian community.
The Northern Youths Vanguard for Development (NYVD), while applauding the troops, noted that the military is determined to keep its promise of restoring of peace in the country.
The group, in a statement by the President, Yakubu Dauda and Secretary, Roseline Musa, Monday, said: “For the second year running, the people of the region, especially the Northeast had a peaceful Christmas.”
The NYVD urged the people of the region to show appreciation to the military through cooperation and the provision of useful information on the activities of enemies of the country in their domain.
8. Stop attacking Obasanjo for backing Obi, says Shehu Sani
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has faulted those who attacked former president Olusegun Obasanjo for backing Labour Party candidate Peter Obi.
He said other presidential candidates can seek the backing of former leaders Yakubu Gowon, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida or Abdulsalami Abubakar.
The former lawmaker said in a tweet on Monday: “Obasanjo has made his choice.
“He is entitled to his opinion. He should not be attacked.

9. Ortom charges Christians to maintain fellowship with one another
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has charged Christians in the state to maintain close fellowship with each other to strengthen their faith in serving God with clear focus on achieving righteousness.
He gave the charge Monday, January 2nd, 2023 at the “The Brethren” annual Prayer and Praise Convocation with the theme; “Engaging the Next Generation” held at the Chapel of Grace, Benue People’s House, Makurdi.
Governor Ortom who delivered a keynote address titled, “Occupying the Public Space,” pointed out that working together in support of each other would provide Christians the opportunity to be “productive and bear fruits” while serving God.
The Governor described the theme of the two day retreat which is an annual programme of the Christian body as “apt and fitting,” stressing that “engaging the next generation” from taking over from the older one should be taken seriously.
10. Nobody can stop elections in South-East – Biafra group
The Youth wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has said elections will be held in the South-East zone.
The group’s stand was made against an earlier statement by Finland-based Simon Ekpa.
Leader of the IPOB youth wing, Comrade Ndubuisi Igwekani, aka Agu Biafra, told journalists in Enugu on Tuesday that the Biafra group would not interfere in the election process, stressing that the will of the Nigerian youths would be respected.
“It is Nigerians that brought Peter Obi out, and their goal is genuine, to recover Nigeria.
