1. Diaspora group rejects Ebonyi speaker as Umahi’s successor

A socio-political movement, under the umbrella of the Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-cultural in Diaspora, has urged elders and residents of the state to reject Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Francis Nwifuru, as a successor to Governor David Umahi.

The group, which called for a level playing field for worthy political aspirants, admonished that stakeholders in the state should not allow the governor to see them as a willing tool to achieve his devious plan.

The governor had anointed Nwifuru as his successor on April 23 during the burial ceremony of former Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area, Dandy Omok.

While unveiling the speaker, Umahi had described him as the next Governor of Ebonyi State.

2. A’Ibom APC: Police confirm Igini’s report on forgery

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed establishing a case of forgery and perjury against the factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State, Stephen Ntukekpo, and absolved the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mike Igini of any complexity.

The police investigation on the allegation of forgery and perjury has also confirmed that Augustine Ekanem was duly elected as the State Chairman of the APC during the party’s congress.

These were contained in the Legal Advice from the Police Legal Unit forwarded to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, for the prosecution of Ntukekpo over alleged forgery and perjury.

3. Biden nominates new US ambassador to Nigeria

United States President Joe Biden has nominated Richard Mills Jr. as the US Ambassador to Nigeria.

He replaces Mary Beth Leonard who was appointed the envoy to Nigeria by President Donald Trump on June 24, 2019.

A statement published on the White House website said Mills currently serves as the US Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations and a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister-Counselor.

Prior to his nomination, he served as the US Ambassador to Armenia. He was also Deputy Chief of Mission and then Chargé d’Affaires at the US Mission to Canada.

4. Yoruba Nation agitation: Akintoye dissolves Ilana Omo Oodua exco

Addressing members of the Worldwide Executive Council at a meeting, Akintoye announced that a Worldwide Interim Management Council will be constituted shortly to retool, reinvent and rebrand the apex body of the Yoruba nation agitation for the optimal gain of the Yoruba people.

Akintoye said the Interim Management Council will work with him to conduct a new election that will usher in a new Worldwide Executive Council.

The dissolution, according to Akintoye, excludes the ex-officios, who are homeland states and diaspora coordinators.

5. Oyo CJ swears in Bayo Lawal as new Deputy Governor

Chief Adebayo Lawal was, on Monday, evening sworn in as the new Deputy Governor of Oyo State, following the impeachment of the former, Alhaji Rauf Olaniyan, by the State House of Assembly.

The swearing ceremony held at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan, was sequent to his confirmation by the Assembly after his nomination by Governor Seyi Makinde, as replacement for Olaniyan.

The state Chief Judge, Justice Munta Abimbola, administered the Oaths of Allegiance and Office on the new deputy governor.

6. IG orders Lagos CP to investigate Portable over formation of cult group, ‘One Million Boys’

Aftermath the disclosure by popular music star, Portable in a trending/viral video that he was one of those instrumental to the formation of the notorious cultist group, One Million Boys in Lagos, the For e headquarters has ordered an investigation.

It said, “Sequel to the trending video of one Habeeb Okikiola aka Portable where he claimed to have formed the One-Million Boys cult group terrorising some parts of Lagos State, the IGP has ordered CP Lagos to investigate the indicting statement and take necessary legal action.

A statement by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi said, “This directive is premised on the continuous effort of the Nigeria Police Force to fish out pillars and sponsors of cult groups in order to decimate their activities and restore sanity to our society. “

Potable had in a viral video stated that he formed the deadly criminal gang in Lagos, One Million Boys’, a statement that has attracted wide condemnations among Nigerians.

7. 2023: Tinubu presents Shettima Wednesday

Barring any last-minute change, the presidential flag bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Wednesday present his running mate, Senator Kashim Shetimma to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Tinubu announced Shettima as his running mate on Sunday, July 4 in Daura, Kastina State after presenting him to President Muhammadu Buhari

APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu with all NWC members are expected to receive the party’s standard flag bearer and his running mate.

The unveiling of Shettima was earlier fixed for last week but postponed without any reason cited.

8. Woman with drugs in fetish bowls intercepted at Lagos airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 27-year-old alleged drug queen, Mrs. Opoola Mujidat, for reportedly planting drugs concealed in fetish bowls on two Oman-bound male passengers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja, Lagos.

Spokesman of the Agency Femi Babafemi said in a statement yesterday that the bowls contained “scary native black soap and sponge”.

Babafemi said the passengers, Raji Babatunde Kazeem and Akinbobola Omoniyi, were travelling together to Oman on an Ethiopian Airlines flight on Monday when they were intercepted by NDLEA operatives at the airport.

“A search of their luggage revealed wraps of cannabis sativa hidden in bowls of native black soap and sponge packed into a bag containing food items, which Kazeem was carrying,” Babafemi said the statement

9. Lai Mohammed bashed for accusing Peter Obi of sponsoring EndSARS protest

The professionals under the platform of Coalition of Nigeria Professionals for Good Governance (CNPGG), have called out the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, over a statement credited to him to the effect that the October, 2020 EndSARS protest, was allegedly sponsored by the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi.

According to some online reports, Mohammed was said to have claimed that most of the young men and women that were at the forefront of the EndSARS Movement, are currently campaigning for the LP flag-bearer on Twitter, and other influential social media platforms.

But CNPGG insisted that the EndSARS protest was a consequence of bad governance, occasioned by insecurity, youth unemployment, poverty and police brutality.

10. Buhari not ready to end ASUU strike – Don

A professor of political science from Usmanu Dan fodio University Sokoto, Professor Ibrahim Bande Zagga, has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari over the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

He said from all indications, Buhari is not cut out to resolve the long standing agreements with university unions.

Prof. Zagga reacted to the ongoing strike in Birnin Kebbi, where he noted that ASUU was also culpable in the plot to destroy public education as a whole going by the foot dragging approach by both parties.

“How much does ASUU require to end the strike? It is a very simple committee comprising the union and the federal government, which have met and reports submitted to the federal government. It is just for the government to implement it, period, “he said.
