1. INEC omits Labour Party on Ogun candidates’ list
The Independent National Electoral Commission in Ogun State on Monday, said it has no records of the governorship and deputy governorship candidates of the Labour Party contesting the forthcoming 2023 election in the state.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Niyi Ijalaye, disclosed this on Monday.
Ijalaye said the party did not submit any name of the candidate for the 26 House Assembly seats in the state.
He said “from the records available to us, Labour Party did not submit any name of their governorship and deputy governorship candidates to us
2. Terrorists ambush soldiers in Abuja, injure three
Suspected terrorists on Sunday laid ambush for the personnel of the Elite Guards Brigade at the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The troops were said to have been ambushed during a patrol in the area.
Three of the personnel were said to have been injured during the attack and are currently receiving medical attention.
A military source told our correspondent that the attack happened while the troops were on patrol.
The source added that the troops engaged them and successfully repelled the attack.
3. Why I can’t work with Atiku – Peter Obi
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Monday, has given reasons why he cannot work with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Obi spoke on Channels Television during a programme tagged ‘Politics Today.’
Atiku had said on Friday that the Labour Party and Peter Obi could not perform any miracle in the 2023 presidential election.
Atiku, who is Nigeria’s former Vice President, stated this in an exclusive interview with Arise TV which was aired on Friday morning.

The presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi has reacted to the statement credited to the former vice President, and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku had on Friday asked Nigerians not to expect any miracle from Obi, noting that the indices of Osun election have measured the strength of Obi’s party.
“What is the performance of the Labour Party? This is a party that does not have a governor; doesn’t have members of the national assembly; doesn’t have state assembly members.
5. Stray bullet hits one, as taskforce, Okada riders clash at Mile-2
One unidentified person, on Monday afternoon was feared dead after he was hit by a stray bullet, when men of the Lagos State Taskforce on Enviroment and Special Offences Unit clashed with commercial motorcyclists, popularly called Okada riders at Mile-2 area and Rainbow Bus-stop, along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos.
The incident which led into pandemonium and traffic gridlock in the axis, occured at about 3.35 pm.
As a result of the clash road users experienced difficulties at the Mile 2 axis as Okada riders clashed with men of Lagos task force, who had seized some motorcycles.
The victim, whose state of health could not be ascertained as of press time was said to have been hit by a stray bullet fired by the security personnel who stormed the area to enforce the state ban on Okada operations in the area.
6. Surgery: Osinbajo discharged from Lagos hospital
Vice President has been discharged from the hospital following a successful surgical operation and rehabilitation, Dr Nicholas Audifferen, the Chief Personal Physician to the Vice President, says.
Audifferen’s statement was made available to newsmen on Monday in Abuja by Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande.
“The vice president was admitted to the Duchess International Hospital, Lagos, on July 16, on account of a right femur fracture
“He had corrective surgery without any complications.

7. Edo confirms eight monkeypox cases
Edo Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akoria Obehi, has stated eight persons had so far tested positive for monkeypox in the State.
She urged Edo residents to observe safety measures to reduce the spread of the virus and other infectious diseases.
Obehi, who spoke in Benin, stated that the ministry had ramped up surveillance and other activities to curb the spread of the infectious disease.
She noted that all the persons who were diagnosed with the disease had recovered.
8. I pity those still in captivity – Freed train hostage
One of the freed kidnapped victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack, Hassan Uthman, has recalled his ordeals in captivity.
He said the terrorists thoroughly beat them, declaring pity for those still captivity.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa, Uthman thanked Almighty Allah for regaining freedom.

Judges of the High Court of Justice, Kogi State will commence their annual vacation on Monday, 1st August, 2022
Chief Information Officer, Kogi State Judiciary, Saqeeb Saeed disclosed this in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday.
Saeed said the annual vacation is pursuant to Order 9, Rule (4)(2) of the High Court (Civil Procedure Rules), 2006, under the hand of the Hon. Acting Chief Judge of Kogi State, Hon. Justice Josiah Joe Majebi.
