1. Enugu mob burns suspected ritualists, police begin probe
The Enugu State Police Command on Monday said it had launched an investigation to fish out those responsible for the alleged mobbing and setting ablaze of one Agbo Dera and Ifeanyi Ugwu (M), at Ede-Oballa Nsukka, in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state, over an alleged ritual killing.
It was gathered the duo was lynched and burnt by a mob on Monday for allegedly being involved in the killing and removal of private parts of a little girl in the community.
The PUNCH gathered that the girl, Eze Nkemdirim, aged 10, was the daughter of late Igwe Philip Ugwu of Umuidu. She went missing a few days ago and was later discovered dead with her eyes and her private parts removed.
Family sources said the girl was initially declared missing and in less than 24 hours, she was found dead with her body badly mutilated.
2. End alliance talks with Kwankwaso, group urges Obi
The Peter Obi Support Network has called for the immediate discontinuation of the negotiations and alliance between the Labour Party and the New Nigerian People’s Party.
The group said the NNPP’s presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwanso,’s continuous association with the Peter Obi candidacy will be a liability rather than an asset.
They said Kwakwanso’s utterances and those of his aides as well as key supporters have continued to raise eyebrows among patriotic Nigerians who are driving the Peter Obi electoral revolution out of their conviction on his competence and unquestionable patriotism.
In a statement on Monday, the Director, Strategic Communication, POSN, Onwuasoanya Jones, said the move became necessary following Kwakwanso’s recent utterances, especially when he appeared on Politics Today, on Channels Television.

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana have defeated Nigeria’s Super Falcons 2-1 in the opening game of Group C of the 12th Women Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.
Nine-time champions and FIFA World Cup ever-present Nigeria were also defeated by South AFrica 10 months ago and on home soil in the final match of the first edition of Aisha Buhari Women’s Tournament.

4. Legalisation of Abortion in Lagos State is unacceptable – Bishop Martins
THE Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Adewale Martins has rejected the legalisation of abortion by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Archbishop Martins said it was untrue that all stakeholders were consulted in the guidelines’ preparation.
Lagos state recently unveiled a 40-page policy document tagged ‘Lagos State guidelines on safe termination of pregnancy for legal indications.’
The Church therefore in a statement signed by Director of Social Communications, Lagos Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu, called on Governor Sanwo-Olu to stop the implementation of the guidelines it has made public on the process to follow for abortion in the state.
5. Get your PVC’s, end our collective misery, PDP youth leader urges Nigerians
The National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Muhammad Suleiman, has enjoined Nigerians especially youths to troop out, collect their Permanent Voters Cards and vote out the All Progressives Congress which he said has brought nothing but misery to citizens.
Suleiman made the appeal at a media briefing ahead of the PDP PVC collection sensitization road show, scheduled to commence in Abuja, on Tuesday.
He said, “Indeed, we can no longer deny or pretend that we are now at the start at the lowest point in our national life.
“The youth of our country have become weary of the future. It is on this note that we call on all Nigerians to go out and get their PVC because this is the only tool to unseat them, these monsters are the corridors of power.
6. Arrest Okorie, Njoku, others now, APGA chairman charges security agencies
The leadership of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Monday, charged security agencies to arrest, investigate and prosecute it’s former national chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie and Chief Edozie Njoku, factional chairman of the party for what it called their “illegal and criminal conducts” in the affairs of the party.
While Njoku is laying claim to the national chairmanship of the party, Okorie emerged the Presidential candidate of APGA in a convention conducted By the Njoku-led National Working Committee, two days after Victor Oye-led executive produced Peter Umeadi as the party’s flag bearer.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of the National Working Committee, NWC of APGA at the National Secretariat Complex, Abuja, the party said the security agencies should treat with dispatch, “all issues pertaining to the unlawful activities of Chief Edozie Njoku, Chief Chekwas Okorie and their co-travellers”.
The communiqué signed by all the members of the party’s National Working Committee said they met to deliberate on salient issues and other sundry matters affecting the party in the build up to the 2023 General Elections.

7. Niger orders suspension of mining activities in three security-ridden LGAs
Niger state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani-Bello has ordered the immediate suspension of all mining activities in Shiroro, Munya and Rafi local government areas to forestall further bandits attack.
These three local government areas have been ridden by insecurity in the state.
The Nation had reported that some terrorists attacked a mining site in Ajata Aboki Village in Shiroro Local Government Area where several security personnel and mining workers lost their lives while four Chinese Nationals and some mining workers were abducted.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Niger State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, the mining sites would remain closed till further notice.
8. Catholic Church denies abandoning victims of Owo terror attack
Parish Priest of St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo local government in Ondo State, Rev. Fr. Vincent Anadi, has denied social media reports that some victims of the June 5th terrorists’ attack on the church have been abandoned.
Fr. Anadi urged the public to disregard the contents of the social media reports saying it was mischievous and aimed at maligning the Government and the Church.
Four armed men had stormed the church and killed 40 persons while over 60 others suffered various degrees of injuries.

9. PDP crisis deepens as faction suspends deputy chairman, legal adviser, others in Borno
The crisis rocking the Borno chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took another twist on Monday with a faction suspending the state Deputy Chairman, Bunu Satomi and the legal adviser, Mr Abdu Jidda, from the party.
A faction led by Satomi had last week suspended the state chairman, Zannah Gaddama, for anti-party activities.
But Mr Amos Adziba, the state publicity secretary of the party, said in a statement in Maiduguri on Monday that the action was null and void.
Adziba said an extraordinary meeting of the party had also suspended Satomi and Jidda from the party.
“The meeting today which was summoned by the state secretary on the directive of the state chairman and had in attendance the state chairman, secretary, members of the state working committee.
10. Interpol confirms arrest of suspected Nigerian cybercriminal in South Africa
A 28-year-old Nigerian has been arrested in relation to a cybercrime ring involved in phishing, internet, romance scams and money laundering.
The suspect, identified as James Junior Aliyu was arrested at an upmarket estate in Sandton, Johannesburg, after a takedown operation.
Members from the Interpol National Crime Bureau (NCB) in Pretoria with assistance from members of the SAPS Gauteng Highway Patrol Unit raided the upmarket estate at 10:00 on Wednesday, 29 June 2022, where they effected the arrest.
His arrest follows a widespread investigation involving law enforcement authorities from South Africa (SA) and the United States of America (USA).
