1. Oyo police foil planned bank robbery, nab banker, female suspect

The Oyo State Police Command has foiled a bank robbery planned by a criminal gang in connivance with at least a contract worker of a new generation bank in Ibadan.

A female suspect and four others were also arrested by the police who foiled the planned attack already hatched a day before the hoodlums struck.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Monday.

He said the suspects were picked from their hideout around Odo Ona area of Ibadan following an intelligence received by the police.

2. Ekiti: Things are getting better with APC, says Buhari

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Monday, said things are getting better with the All Progressives Congress following the victory of the party’s candidate in the Ekiti State governorship elections last Saturday.

According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, titled ‘President Buhari receives Ekiti Gov-Elect, says things getting better with APC,’ Buhari made the comment when he received the newly elected Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Premising his comments on the support Oyebanji had received from the other APC governors, the President expressed hope that such support would continue.

According to Adesina, Buhari said he keenly followed the polls held on Saturday, June 18, and was delighted with the orderly conduct, and the way the electorate and security agencies comported themselves.

3. 150 widows beg Anambra Reps candidate to ‘marry’ them

No fewer than 150 widows in Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State have begged a House of Representatives candidate, Edward Ibuzo, to “marry” them.

They made the plea when the candidate, who is currently a member of the state House of Assembly, representing the Onitsha North II, came for Thanksgiving at the Saint Jude Catholic Church, Woliwo, Onitsha.

Ibuzo said he came to thank God for being an unopposed Reps candidate under the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance.

The President of the widows association, Ego Augustina, said, “Ibuzo is a man of the people, he has been taking good care of the widows in the area and he gives us free loans.

“When we heard he is here to give thanks to God for being elected unopposed to represent APGA in the Federal House of Representatives, we rushed to also honour him with this ‘winning award’.

“We are pleading with him to marry us. We are not too much for him. We need protection and care and he has been doing it before now, so he should marry us.

4. NDLEA: Youths constitute 90% of arrested drug offenders in Katsina

Katsina State Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said that over 90 per cent of substance abusers arrested in the state between January 2022 to date comprises of youths within the age range of 15 – 40.

The state’s Narcotics Commander, Mohammed Bashir Ibrahim, provided the data on Monday while briefing journalists on what the command has been able to achieve in the last six months as it prepares for the 2022 United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking tagged: “Addressing Drug Challenges in Health and Humanitarian Crises.”

The state narcotics commander said: “During this period (January to May), 345 suspects were arrested. This comprises 339 males and six females, whereas about 388 substance abuse persons were counselled and rehabilitated.

5. Orubebe dumps PDP, remains mum on next political move

The former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs under the GoodLuck Jonathan administration, Elder Godsday Orubebe, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party citing the party’s decision to dump zoning as reason for his action.

Orubube made his decision public in a letter addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyiochia Ayu, on Monday.

He said the party has failed to learn lessons from its electoral defeat in 2015 noting that there was currently nothing on ground to show that the PDP was prepared to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections.

6. Falana writes Gbajabiamila, demands information on Electoral Offences Commission Bill

Legal Luminary, Femi Falana, SAN, has on Monday, written the speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila requesting information on the Electoral Offenses Commission Bill.

The letter is coming on the heels of allegations of vote trading which allegedly characterized the just concluded Ekiti Gubernatorial Election, held on Saturday June the 18th, 2022.

Both Local and foreign observers noted the incidents of vote trading and have since been condemned widely with many stakeholders calling on INEC to punish those found guilty.

7. Soldier kills fuel attendant in Minna

A yet-to-be-identified soldier has killed a fuel attendant in Shafa filling station in Minna, Niger state capital.

The incident occurred in the Bosso road branch of Shafa filling station.

It was learnt it happened when the fuel attendant tried to intervene in the tussle between his manager and the soldier.

The soldier, it was gathered, had some issues with the station manager, which turned into a hot argument leading to the duo slapping each other.

Eyewitnesses said that the fuel attendant, who was angry over the behaviour of the soldier, brought out a cutlass to threaten the soldier.

8. Soludo denies ‘Peter Obi’s $20m investment in Anambra worth $100m’

Anambra Governor Charles Soludo has debunked the viral claim attributed to him that a $20 million investment by the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi in Anambra is worth $100million.

A Facebook page belonging to “Lamentations of a Bishop” had posted: “Mr. Peter Obi’s $20 million investment in Anambra worth $100 million today ~ Charles Chukwuma Soludo”

The now-deleted post, which did not state the source of the information amassed over 200 comments. Other followers circulated the post.

Checks by The Nation showed the claim, which was attributed to Soludo, may have been extracted from an interview Peter Obi granted on August 27, 2018.

“Tomorrow they are commissioning Sagamu building – the biggest brewery in Africa. Anambra state is the single-highest shareholder in that facility. I invested in it over $20 million. It is almost worth $100 today,” Obi said then in the interview.

But reacting to the viral statement on Monday, Soludo said: “Where did you read or hear me make such false statement?

9. 2023: How Tinubu picked his running mate – APC chairman, Adamu

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu, has said they chose a vice-presidential candidate after “careful” legal consultations.

Adamu stated this on Monday while speaking with State House correspondents after accompanying the Governor-elect of Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji, on a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Kabiru Faskari, an APC chieftain, had said the party’s presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has picked Kabir Masari as his running mate to Bola Tinubu.

Although the ruling party has not officially confirmed if Masari is a placeholder or not, there have been speculations on the possibility that he may not want to step down if he is indeed standing in as Tinubu’s running mate.

Speaking on the development, Adamu said: “We are not in the speculative world. We are governed by the laws of the land. There’s nothing our presidential candidate has done with regards to returning his forms that is not within the confines of the law of the land.

10. Police reveal new frausters’ tactic

The Nigeria Police, Zone 2 Command (Lagos and Ogun) has advised the public to be wary of fraudsters.

The Public Relations Officer, SP Hauwa Idris-Adamu, issued the warning on Monday.

The command informed the public that Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Adeleke Adeyinka had received several petitions.

The fraudsters target businessmen and women who advertise their goods through social media platforms

The PRO noted that they act like genuine buyers while they order goods in large quantities.
