The Nigerian Army has denied a report that some of its senior officers were partisan during the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.

The Army said contrary to the “smear campaign”, its officers rather ensured a peaceful election free from interference by ill-motivated groups.

A report by a media outlet (not The PUNCH) claimed that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, had conspired with a General who ordered the deployment of troops to some locations in Lagos for the election to be rigged in favour of the Labour Party

Tinubu, who was represented by the Vice President-Elect, Kashim Shettima, disclosed this at the meeting with new members-elect to the National Assembly.

3. New naira: Buhari didn’t tell CBN to disobey court orders — Presidency

The Presidency Monday evening said the Central Bank of Nigeria had no reason not to comply with the ruling of the Supreme Court on the naira redesign policy.

These are contained in a press statement released by the President’s Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

4. NLC gives FG 7-day-ultimatum over naira scarcity

The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, on Monday, threatened to shut down the economy if the federal government fails to address the lingering naira scarcity within seven days.

The seven-day ultimatum was issued after an emergency Central Working Committee, CWC, meeting in Abuja.

The NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, while briefing journalists, decried that Nigerians were highly suffering as a result of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s  CBN, cashless policy and threatened to ask workers to withdraw their services around the country if the problem is not resolved in the next seven days.

He explained that his support remains with all Labour Candidates who received the party’s ticket after passing through the normal nomination process as enshrined in the party’s constitution.

Obi appealed to Obidoents across party lines not to despair but to come out in their numbers to vote for competence, character and capacity which Labour Party candidates represent.

6. Polls: Buhari deserves credit for remarkable improvement – Presidency

Despite the global condemnation by the international media and foreign observers over the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections, the presidency on Monday said that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration should rather be commended for the remarkable improvement in the conduct of elections in the country instead of vilification.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has come under heavy attack over the alleged irregularities occasioned by the delay in uploading the Pulling Units results from the BVAS to the iREV immediately after collation.

But the Presidency has frowned at the position taken by the international media, saying that the world had been treated to epic lies and hate, and told by global media to expect a different outcome.

The Presidency in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu said Nigerians shocked the world by refusing religious hatred and sectarian politics
