1. Soldier kills colleagues in Sokoto, Army begins investigations
The Nigerian Army has said it has commenced investigations into the incident of a soldier who killed his colleagues and himself at Forward Operations Base Rabbah, Sokoto State.
The Director, Army Public Relations Officer, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement said the incident occurred Sunday evening.
He said troops were deployed for internal security operations in the area.
Onyema stated that the circumstances leading to the incident could not be immediately ascertained, adding that the soldier who killed his colleagues also shot himself immediately.
2. Protest: Dancing ‘Skelewu’ won’t restore your mandate, APC PCC slams Atiku
The All Progressives Congress presidential campaign council has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to desist from allowing his campaign spokesman, Dino Melayo, to push him around.
This is even as the PCC warned that dancing ‘Skelewu’ on the streets of Abuja won’t make the Independent National Electoral Commission change its mind about the winner of the presidential election.
The caution came in the wake of the demonstration by the Peoples Democratic Party at the commission headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
Atiku has led the leadership of the PDP and many of the party followers on a peaceful protest from the party’s National secretariat to INEC headquarters.
3. Abia Lp gov candidate vows to pay salaries, pension arrears in seven months
The governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Abia State, Alex Otti, has vowed to clear all outstanding workers’ salaries and pensions before the end of December 2023 if elected governor.
Otti, a renowned banker and economics spoke at Uzuakoli in Bende Local Government Area on Sunday during an interactive session with members of the Alex Otti support group in the area.
He lamented that the Peoples Democratic Party led government had continued to owe workers and retirees many months of salary and pension arrears.
Otti, also revealed that medical doctors under the state employ recently embarked on indefinite strike for non-payment of salary arrears of over 25 months.

4. Funding, insecurity, cultural differences major concerns for National Census – FG
The Federal Government has described funding issue, insecurity and cultural differences as major concerns for the conduct of the 2023 National Housing and Population Census.
The Minister of State for Budget and Planning, Clem Agba stated this at a meeting with members of the private sector and development partners in Abuja on Monday.
The meeting was convened to address grey areas for a successful exercise nationwide.
The census is scheduled to hold between March 29 and April 2.
5. Benue guber candidates vow to tackle herdsmen killings, insecurity if elected
The gubernatorial candidates of political parties in the coming March 11 Governorship and State Assembly elections in Benue state have promised to accord priority attention to the lingering insecurity in the state by ending armed herders’ incursions in parts of the state if elected.
The aspirants made the commitment in Makurdi while featuring in the 2023 Benue Gubernatorial Debate organised by SAVDFUTUR, a non-governmental organisation.
The candidates including Terhemen Tilley-Gyado of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Dabu Asemayina of Action Alliance, AA, Mede Bemgbator of Social Democratic Party, SDP, and Joseph Waya of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, who individually spoke extensively on their development agenda for the state noted that no government would make progress without first tackling the security challenges facing the People.
6. Akeredolu approves increase in pensioners’ allowance
Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has approved an increase in the pension allowance of retirees in the state.
The State Head of Service, Pastor Kayode Ogundele, said this in Akure on Monday
Ogundele said the approval was in conformity with the consequential adjustment arising from the implementation of the National Minimum Wage of 2019 in the country.
According to him, no fewer than 11,654 officers from the state civil service and 11,659 from the local government service who retired before 1st January, 2020, the effective date of the present minimum wage regime, would benefit from the new approval.
