1. ASUU Strike: Students to continue protests in Osun, Kwara, Edo, others May 10
Following the extension of the strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities by another 12 weeks, student groups have decided to continue their protests across the country.
Students under the aegis of Fund Education Coalition have declared a protest action to hold at the gate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State on Tuesday.
The Students’ Union of the University of Ilorin had also in a flier, called on Nigerian students in Ilorin to join in a protest which would commence at the university’s gate on Tuesday.
Similarly, the National Association of University Students, Oyo State Campus Monitoring Committee, in a statement issued late Monday, signed by its Chairman, Comrade Shittu Ridwan Adeniyi, declared a mass protest to hold at the Office of the Wife of the Governor of Oyo State on Wednesday.
2. 2023: We didn’t buy form for Jonathan, says CNG
Pan-Arewa socio-political organisation under the aegis of the Coalition of Northern Groups has described as mischievous, reports that it bought forms for former President Goodluck Jonathan for him to pursue his 2023 presidential ambition under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
The organisation said it was still committed to the search for a competent, credible Nigerian leader with the capacity to justly and fairly take all citizens through and out of the current limitations of the country.
The spokesperson of CNG, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, made the clarification in a disclaimer sent to journalists on Monday night titled: ‘Report that we bought forms for Jonathan mischievous – CNG.’
He said, “The attention of the Coalition of Northern Groups has been drawn to a piece of a deliberately confusing report that has been trending since early evening of Monday, May 9.
3. Sokoto: Dasuki hands over finance ministry, lauds Tambuwal’s performance
Former Sokoto State Commissioner for Finance, Honourable Abdussamad Dasuki, has formally handed over the Ministry to the Permanent Secretary, Dahiru Balarabe Abbas.
At the handover ceremony were the Accountant-General, Umar Balarabe; Deputy Accountant-General, Musa Mohammad Maccido; Director, Debt Management, Murtala Umar Dogondaji; and Director of Funds, Aliyu Abubakar Dange.
Dasuki who took over the affairs of the Ministry in 2019, had earlier tendered his resignation in March in compliance with the Electoral Act. He recently returned from a foreign trip to formally hand over to the permanent secretary.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the former commissioner extolled Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s sterling leadership, which had placed Sokoto in good stead for rapid growth and development.

4. CBN to achieve 85% financial inclusion soon — Emefiele
The Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has expressed optimism that the Bank would soon achieve the 85% financial inclusion rate target in Nigeria
According to him, the nation’s current rate was slightly below 70%.
Mr. Emefiele disclosed at the headquarters in Abuja, yesterday, while playing host to a delegation of Executive Directors from the Bank of Uganda, who were on an experience sharing tour of the CBN’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) project.
He noted that the CBN was committed to accelerating the rate at which those who were financially excluded could come into the formal banking sector.
5. Disputed Oil Wells: Obuah lauds Gov Wike over Supreme Court victory
A frontline Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Rivers State, Brother Felix Obuah has lauded the state governor, Nyesom Wike over the Supreme Court victory against the Imo State government in the disputed 17 oil wells between the two sister states.
Obuah commended the governor for his courage and undaunted spirit to ensure justice was not only done but seen to have been done over the legal battle that has lingered for so long.
The PDP governorship aspirant and a bonafide indigene of the council area of the disputed oil wells (Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni) said the victory is a further confirmation of Gov Wike’s resolve to see that what rightly belongs to Rivers State is not denied it.
6. 2023: Yoruba leaders challenged over presidential slot
Bola Ahmed Tinubu Our Choice 2023 (BATOC23), on Monday challenged Yoruba leaders to rally effort towards ensuring that the region produced the country’s president in next year’s general election.
The group in a statement issued by its Convener/ Chairman, Ambassador Adejare Bello in Osogbo, stated that leaders and elders of thought in the zone need to step into the political situation in the region with a view to ensuring it get the ticket to vie for the presidency.
Bello, Nigerian envoy to Mexico, also urged southwest monarchs including Ooni of Ife, Alake of Egbe, Olubadan of Ibadan and others to ensure that southwest produce the next president.
It is time for other yoruba leaders including monarchs to follow the suit of Chiefs Bisi Akande and Segun Osoba to provide leadership and ensure that the growing numbers of aspirants in the region does not lead to crisis or division.

7. 2023 is about security, future of our children – Obi
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Mr Peter Obi, has observed that the 2023 general elections should be about the security of the nation and the future of the children.
Obi stated this on Monday in Jos when he addressed Plateau delegates ahead of the party primaries.
The former governor of Anambra said that Nigeria must get it right in 2023 if it would regain its position among the comity of nations.
He told the delegates, and indeed Nigerians, not to sacrifice the future of their children for immediate gains.
8. 2023: Orji Kalu picks APC form for Senate
The Chief Whip of the Senate, Sen. Orji Kalu says he has picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) form for the Abia North Senate seat.
Kalu, in a statement he issued in Abuja, said that his desire to return to senate was to complete the work he started in his constituency.
He, however, announced that his withdrawal from the presidential race was the failure of the Peoples Democratic Party and APC to zone their tickets to South East.
According to Kalu, since there is no zoning and the contest is open to all Nigerians, I officially withdraw from presidential contest in 2023.
“I have also picked ticket to run for Abia North Senatorial zone to complete the good work I started in Abia North,” he said.
Kalu congratulated Senate President, Ahmad Lawan for picking form to contest for President of Nigeria.

9. Speak against killings now – Chidoka to Igbos
Former Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, has expressed sadness over the murder of ‘Army couple‘ in Imo State and urged all Igbo to speak up.
In a statement on Monday, Chidoka, who said he watched the video, called the act a sacrilege and desecration of Igboland.
He noted that killing a woman whose crime is that she has a job to keep body and soul together “is tragic and unpardonable”.
“Our culture and spiritual belief system do not permit the killing of Women, Nwa okpu. It is evil. Evil has entered our land”, said the ex-Corps Marshall.
Chidoka recalled that the Igbos suffered for the kidnap and selling of their people during the slave trade era.
