1. Aregbesola’s loyalists kick, demand Osun APC primaries cancellation

Ten State House of Assembly and two National Assembly aspirants on the platform of All Progressives Congress in Osun State on Monday demanded the cancellation of the party’s primaries in the state.

The aspirants, who belong to ‘The Osun Progressives,’ a caucus in Osun APC supported by the Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, accused the state Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, of acting with impunity and in disregard to democratic principles governing the conduct of the party’s primaries.

Addressing newsmen in Osogbo, an ex-member of Osun state House of Assembly, representing Olorunda State Constituency, Waseeu Adebayo, who was flanked by other aspirants, said the APC leadership could not announce the results of the primary days after they were held because of manipulation being perpetrated with the outcome.

He said, “Our people were at the various collation centres and nothing was happening until around 5pm when some factional Ward Chairmen from the Governor’s camp surfaced, claiming to be the Presiding Officer for the primary election.

2. Some PDP govs ganged up against southern presidency – Wike

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said some Peoples Democratic Party governors ganged up with some vested interest groups to derail the quest of southern Nigeria to produce the next president of Nigeria.

He said it was the agreement of the governors of southern Nigeria that the presidency should come to the South, and he did not betray that agreement.

Wike made the explanation at a grand reception organised by the Rivers people on Monday in Port Harcourt to welcome him back from Abuja after the PDP presidential primary.

Wike, in a statement by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, issued in Port Harcourt, described as shameful, the inability of some of those who were part of the agreement to stick to the agreement when it mattered.

3. Police confirm Methodist Prelate, others’ release

The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the release of the Methodist Church Prelate, His Eminence, Dr. Samuel Chukwuemeka Kanu-Uche, his (Chaplain’s), Very Rev. Abidemi Jeremiah Shittu, and the Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark, from their abductors.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the development on Monday night, adding that though the victims have been released, no arrests have been made.

“If there is any (arrest), it is not to my knowledge. All I know is that they have regained their freedom,” Ogbonna said.

He also stated that he was not aware if any ransom was paid, adding that “it is when we see them that we can now ask those questions”.

4. French govt kicks, as journalist, Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff is killed in Ukraine

Paris is calling for investigation, as French journalist working in Ukraine has been killed near the battle-hit city of Severodonetsk in the east.

Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff, 32, was covering an evacuation operation for broadcaster BFMTV when he died.

Officials say he suffered a fatal wound to the neck after shrapnel pierced the armoured vehicle he was travelling in. His colleague Maxime Brandstaetter was also injured, report say.

It was Mr Leclerc-Imhoff’s second trip to Ukraine to cover the war.

5. How IMF gave Nigeria $6.8 b in two years — Resident Rep

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has given Nigeria $6. 8 billion facilities between 2020, in the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic till date.

The Resident Representative for Nigeria, Mr. Ari Aisen while presenting the latest Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Economic Outlook, in Abuja, yesterday, said that Nigeria received $3. 4 billion in Special Drawing Rights and a similar amount in addition as loan from the Fund.

He expressed concerns that many African countries, including Nigeria, would face a critical problem with debt servicing unless actions were immediately taken to significantly raise revenue.

6. I won’t leave, work against APC despite losing ticket — Awosika assures party

A frontline senatorial aspirant in the just concluded primary elections of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo Central Senatorial district, Dr.Tola Emmanuel Awosika, has promised not to leave or work against the party despite losing its ticket during the election.

Awosika was defeated in the contest by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adeniyi Adegbonmire and has since conceded defeat.

Speaking in Akure, the state capital, he pledged to continue to support and work for the progress of the party, and also expressed appreciation to his supporters and delegates who participated in the exercise.

He lauded his supporters who stood by him before and after the party primary despite the level of threats, intimidation and harassment meted out to him in the course of the electioneering process.

7. You are betrayers, Wike blasts southern PDP Govs

Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has described some of his southern colleagues as betrayers, saying they worked against the agreement that the presidency should return to the South.

He said the PDP Governors ganged up with some vested interest groups to derail the quest of the south to produce the next President on the platform of the party.

Wike, who was treated to a grand reception by PDP leaders and members after the primary election, said he did not betray the agreement.

The Governor said it was shameful that those who were part of the agreement did not stick to it.

8. Ekiti nullifies installation of monarch

The Ekiti State Government has declared the purported installation of one Stephen Ajayi as the Obanla of Ipao Ekiti on Ikole Local Government as illegal, null and void.

Deputy Governor Bisi Egbeyemi said the installation was carried out contrary to the existing laws governing the nomination, selection and installation of Obas in the State.

According to a statement by his Special Assistant (Media), Odunayo Ogunmola, the Deputy Governor stressed since the purported installation is against the Ekiti State Chiefs Law, it is null and void and of no effect whatsoever.

The Deputy Governor said the full wrath of the law would be visited on those who performed the installation and the candidate who submitted himself for the exercise contrary to the provisions of the Ekiti State Chiefs Law.

9. Ambazonia: Army insists Nigerian territory not attacked by Cameroonian militants

The Nigerian Army said reports about attacks on some villages by Cameroonian (Ambazonian) separatists were false.

Director of Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu issued a statement on Monday.

Nwachukwu said the Nigerian troops at Danare received information and mobilized to the Bashu community, which was allegedly invaded.

The spokesman noted that on arrival, they discovered that no incursion happened at Bashu.

“Rather, the separatists attacked Obonyi 2 and Njasha, both of which are communities located in the Republic of Cameroon”, he added.

10. I did not send assassins after Shina Peller – APC gubernatorial candidate, Folarin

The gubernatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin has declared that he did not send hired killers to assassinate Hon. Shina Abiola Peller.

Folarin made this disclosure via a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday.

Our correspondent recalls that Folarin who represents Oyo Central senatorial district was on Friday, declared as the APC candidate ahead of 2023 elections in the state.

DAILY POST gathered that Peller is currently representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola federal constituency in the House of Representatives.
