1. UN to meet hours after Russia strikes Ukraine
The UN General Assembly has announced that it would meet on Monday, October 10, 2022, hours after Russia launched a deadly barrage of missile strikes at cities across Ukraine, as Western powers condemned Moscow’s latest attacks and sought to underscore its isolation.
2. NAF kills bandits kingpin, others in Kaduna
A notorious bandit leader in Kaduna State, Ali Dogo, and 30 of his foot soldiers have been neutralised by Nigerian troops in an airstrike over the weekend.
An impeccable military source confirmed to our correspondent that Dogo, also known as Yellow, and his gang members, were neutralised by airstrikes undertaken by the Air Component of Operation WHIRL Punch.
While confirming the bombardments of Yellow and his fighters, the source noted that the notorious bandit leader and his men had fled from Niger State to one Alhaji Gwarzo’s house at Yadi in Giwa Local Government Area for safety, following NAF aircraft sustained bombardments on his location in Niger, recently.
“Unfortunately for them, while they were having a meeting, NAF aircraft struck Alhaji Gwarzo’s house, leaving everybody in the building neutralized including Yellow”.
3. Nigeria now positioned for Web 3 – Osinbajo
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday, said Nigeria possessed the requisite talents, creativity and acumen to be significant in Web 3.
“In 1989, we didn’t have mobile phones; so we could not take advantage of the reach and depth that mobile telecoms gave digital innovation and financial inclusion. We are now better positioned to be significant players in Web 3,” Osinbajo said when he appeared as Special Guest of Honour at this year’s Nigeria Digital Economy Summit themed, Web 3.0, Blockchain & DeFi: Impact on Africa’s Digital Economy.
This is according to a statement signed on Monday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, titled ‘We can become world leaders in the digital economy, the only limit is vision, Osinbajo says.’
The Nigeria Digital Economy Summit is a privately funded public-private partnership forum to support Nigeria’s digital transformation into a globally leading digital economy.

4. Deal sealed, ASUU strike over in matter of days – Gbajabiamila
Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila last night said that in a matter of days the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU will call of the 7 months old strike that had kept the citadel of learning under lock and keys.
Rising from a meeting with the ASUU leadership led by its President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke called at the instance of the lawmakers, the speaker said that the deal had been sealed.
It will be recalled that the leadership of the House led by Gbajabiamila hd in that last 4 weeks held 4 different meetings with the academic body to resolve the lingering, knotty issues with the government.
Last week, the Speaker led a delegation of the lawmakers to the Presidential Villa where he met with President Muhammadu Buhari to submit the report of the meeting with ASUU.
5. Obey court order call off strike- group urges university lecturers
The Campaign for Equal Rights and Opportunities for all Nigerians, CERON, has urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to immediately comply with the Abuja Appeal Court ruling and call off its eight months old strike and save the union the ongoing smear campaign that had labelled their action a political agitation.
The Secretary of CERON, Mr. Francis Odiir in a statment Monday in Makurdi was reacting to the recent disclosure by the Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige who alleged that the leadership of ASUU had called on Nigerians to vote out the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2023 over the failure of the APC-led Federal Government to resolve the imbroglio.
According to the Secretary of CERON, “if such a statement was actually made by ASUU leadership, it could have been made out of the frustration the and pains most Nigerian parents are subjected to given the implication of the strike to the lives of Nigerian youths.
6. 2023: No alternative to APC’s victory – Buhari
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Monday told members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, that there will not be any alternative to the party’s victory in the 2023 general elections.
President Buhari, who is the Chairman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, also advised party faithful to take their campaigns to the 8000 electoeal wards and the 774 local government areas across the country and not to be gathering in Abuja.
Speaking when he inaugurated the Tinubu-Shettima Women Campaign Team at the Old Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, the President said the Women Campaign Team was the most crucial component of the APC’s 2023 campaign.

7. How APC can win 2023 polls, by Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari has provided insights into how the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) can continue its winning streak in 2023.
He said the party must take advantage of the women population and spread campaigns to the most remotest parts of the country.
He spoke at the inauguration of the Tinubu-Shettima Women Presidential Campaign Team, held at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The President, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, also tasked the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, and the Minister of Women Affairs to work with the Office of the First Lady to come up with sets of legislations that can be put before the National Assembly to make laws to ensure women receive just recognition for their contributions in society.
Speaking on how the APC could win the presidential and other elections next year, Buhari called the attention of the audience, including the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and other leaders of the party, to the potentials of the women voters, highlighting the sheer number of votes they contributed in the last two elections, charging the party to court the support of the female voters.

Highlife singer Adekunle Gold has expressed heartfelt gratitude to his boss-cum-benefactor, Olamide Baddo for bringing him to the limelight.

9. 2023: I did not call Peter Obi ‘kindergarten president’ – Ekwunife
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra Central senatorial district, Senator Uche Ekwunife has denied throwing jabs at Peter Obi.
Ekwunife, who was at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State for the official flag off of the presidential campaign of the PDP, had said Nigeria doesn’t need a kindergarten president.
Ekwunife in a now viral video, while campaigning for the PDP President-General candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said Nigeria does not need one who will always remind the country of her problem, but one who knows how to solve it.
Many followers of Peter Obi in Anambra State had interpreted the video to be referring to Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP.
Many supporters of Obi have been lashing at Ekwunife, who had before now, proclaimed herself as a political daughter of Obi, before the latter left the PDP for LP.
10. El Clasico: Messi was rude to Real Madrid players – Dudek
Ex-Real Madrid goalkeeper, Jerzy Dudek, has claimed Lionel Messi insulted Pepe and Sergio Ramos during El Clasico encounters.
