1. Army rescues six hostages in Kaduna
Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued six persons held hostage by terrorists in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The state Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement on Monday, said the kidnapped victims were rescued during clearance patrols conducted around the Kangon Kadi general area of the Chikun LGA.
Aruwan noted that the troops, on clearance operation, fired at identified terrorists’ locations around the Kangon Kadi forest, Labi and the Udawa River, adding that the bandits fled from the Kangon Kadi area under the superior firepower of the troops, leaving behind six kidnapped victims at their camp.
He said, “Troops of the Nigerian Army rescued six kidnapped victims during clearance patrols conducted around the Kangon Kadi general area in Chikun LGA.
2. Ifeanyi Ubah names aides killed in Sunday attack
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has confirmed the deaths of some of his personal and security aides during Sunday’s attack on his convoy.
Ubah’s convoy was attacked around Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu Market area of Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State on his way to Nnewi, his country home on Sunday night.
The gunmen opened fire on the convoy and left many members of the convoy dead including other persons at the scene of the incident.
The senator, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Monday in Awka, said the assassins killed one Obum Ikechukwu and Goodness Mathias.
3. Gunmen kidnap Delta LGA vice chairman
The Vice Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Frank Esiwo Ozue, has been abducted by gunmen.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday at Ogor town in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State when his car was reportedly waylaid by the gunmen who whisked him to unknown location.
The council vice chairman was said to be alone in the car as he was travelling to Patani area of the state when the incident occurred.
Confirming the incident to journalists in Warri on Monday, a family source disclosed that he was travelling to Patani area when he was forcefully stopped by the gunmen along Iwhre-Ovie/Oviri-Ogor Road off the Ughelli/Evwreni section of the East-West Road.

4. It’s time to refocus education to be competitive, skills-armed, Fayemi challenges stakeholders
STAKEHOLDERS in the Nigerian education sector have been challenged to evolve a new approach to rendering education in the country as the ‘white-collar-focused’ system can no longer support national development.
Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, and Ekiti State governor Dr Kayode Fayemi, gave the charge in his Keynote Address, delivered at the official flag-off of the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Project in Abuja on Monday.
The Federal Ministry of Education organised the workshop in collaboration with the World Bank in its determination to ensure the success of the IDEAS project.
World Bank is supporting the IDEAS Project in each of the participating states (Ekiti, Benue, Edo, Abia, Gombe and Kano) with the sum of $200 million credit facility for implementation.
5. 25-yr-old Ike Ekweremadu’s Daughter Sonia appeals for kidney donation
Sonia Ekweremadu, daughter of the embattled former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu has appealed to the public to donate a kidney to her.
Sonia made this appeal via her Instagram page on Monday.
The daughter of the former lawmaker said her present predicament was responsible for her father’s legal predicament in the United Kingdom.
According to Sonia, the development has complicated matters for her and the family.
6. Group questions INEC’s commitment to free, credible polls
A foremost civil society organization, the Human and Environmental Developmental Agenda, HEDA, has expressed concern over the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct free, transparent and credible elections in 2023, citing what it called recent twists and turns in the polity.
HEDA stated this Monday in a statement signed by its chairman, Olarenwaju Suraju.
According to the group, “INEC’s inconsistency regarding the issuance of Certified True Copies, CTC, of the Biometric Voter Accreditation System, BVAS deployed in Osun State gubernatorial election to APC candidate and Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, may mar the 2023 general elections.”
Recall that in July 18, 2022, two days after a governorship election was conducted in Osun State, the APC candidate and Governor Adegboyega Oyetola reportedly applied for the Certified True Copies, CTC, of the BVAS Report for the election.

7. Brazilian returnee excretes 92 wraps of cocaine at Abuja airport
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Brazilian returnee and father of two, Okolie Paulinus Nwabueze, for importing 92 wraps of cocaine, which he ingested and eventually excreted after days under observation in the Agency’s facility.
Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Femi Babafemi, made this known in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.
Babafemi said the 53-year-old trafficker who hails from Mmaku village, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State was arrested on Friday 2nd September upon his arrival on Qatar Airline flight enroute Brazil-Doha-Abuja.
According to the statement, Nwabueze claimed to have left Nigeria to Mozambique in 2004 and finally relocated to Brazil in 2017, where he obtained a residence permit before deciding to import the illicit substance for a $4,000 fee.
8. Rita Lori wants Tompolo’s pipeline contract withdrawn
Right activist Rita-Lori Ogbebor, has called for the withdrawal of the pipeline contract awarded to the leader of Movement for the Emancipation of Niger-Delta (MEND), Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo.
She decried the lukewarm attitude of the Federal Government over the proliferation of ammunition across the country, especially in the Niger Delta region.
Lori spoke at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, lamenting the spate of anarchy in the Niger Delta region.

9. Rivers, Kano, Abuja get 9000 capacity Prisons – FG
The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on Monday, stated that the federal government would complete the 9,000 special facility capacity custodial centres in three states of the country by December, 2022.
These 3,000 capacity custodial centres are located in Kano, Rivers and Abuja.
Aregbesola, disclosed this to journalists after a facility tour to the 3,000 ultra modern Capacity Custodial Centre Karshi, Abuja.
He said the one in Kano was almost completed while the facilities in Rivers and Abuja were at 55% of completion.
10. Ifeanyi Ubah: YPP writes Buhari, police over Anambra deadly attack
The Young Peoples Party (YPP) has called for a thorough investigation of the gruesome attack on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
The lawmaker representing Anambra South in the National Assembly is a top chieftain of the party.
Ubah’s convoy was ambushed around 5pm on Sunday, close to Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu Market, as it headed to Nnewi.
Close aides Goodness Mathias and Obum Ikechukwu and some security personnel died at the scene.
