The All Progressives Congress on Monday says the opposition People’s Democratic Party is in a panic over the recent visit of the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The PDP had reacted to the closed-door meeting between the statesmen, which the camp of the former Lagos governor said was in continuation of his nationwide consultation with critical stakeholders.
According to the opposition party, the move was a ploy by both Tinubu and his running mate to distance themselves from the alleged failure of the administration President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
In a statement released on Monday by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party accused the hierarchy of PDP of pressing the panic button because they were intimidated.
The statement read, “Rattled by the recent statesmanly visit of our Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the opposition People’s Democratic Party has hit the panic button in false alarm, saying the move won’t help our candidate and party.
The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has ‘revealed’ how he helped the standard bearer of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, to emerge as the presidential candidate of LP.
Sowore, while speaking on Monday at the memorial lecture held in honour of the late human rights lawyer and activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, in Lagos, said that the Labour Party ran into a problem in the course of choosing the candidacy of Obi, as there were calls that Obi should not be presented.
Sowore said he, alongside the Senior Advocate of Nigeria and activist, Femi Falana, rose to the occasion by taking legal steps to defend the LP.
“When the Labour Party ran into a problem. There was a member of the LP who insisted that the LP could not present the candidacy of Peter Obi. They had a legal problem. We went and obtain judgment in court; from the Court of Appeal, and handed it over to Falana to use it to defend the Labour Party, and by extension, Peter Obi’s candidacy. Yes! I’m just telling you that we’re in the business of saving people,” Sowore stated.
The activist cum pro-democracy campaigner, laid claims to rescuing Obi from impeachment while Obi was a governor of Anambra State.
A sum of N90 million has been demanded by the abductors to release the travellers, who were kidnapped last Saturday.
The travellers were kidnapped on Akure-Benin Expressway at Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State while coming from Edo State. The victims were said to be returning from a burial ceremony in Ewatto, Edo State when they were attacked at Ifon, a border town between Ondo and Edo State.
It was gathered that the bandits had contacted the families of the victims, demanding between N3million and N10 million to release each of the victims.
Confirming the development, the Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, said the state government was not involved in the ransom negotiation, saying payment of ransom further encouraged and empowered kidnappers to thrive in the illegal business.
He cleared that 18 people were kidnapped on a fateful day but nine of the victims escaped.

The Federal Government on Monday suspended the controversial 5% excise duty on telecommunication services recently announced by the Ministry of Finance and Nigerian Customs.
