1. Senate presidency: Lawmakers lobbying colleagues with money, says Ndume

On Tuesday, Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, accused some aspirants vying for the Senate presidency of lobbying their counterparts into accepting vast sums of money in exchange for votes.

“There is vote-buying. Votes being bought do not end with the masses; it goes beyond that. Even a senator’s vote is up for sale,” Ndume said in a BBC Hausa interview on Tuesday.

Although it is common knowledge that politicking had begun in both chambers of the National Assembly to elect principal officers in the 10th NASS, Ndume said many aspirants have resorted to money politics.

2. Gombe NLC says the era of fighting govt over

The newly elected Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Gombe State chapter, has promised to partner with the All Progressives Congress-led administration in the state towards improving civil servants’ well-being and the people’s generality.

It also affirmed that the era of fighting government was over.

The new chairman of the Council, Yusuf Bello, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the deputy governor in his office.

Bello, who took over from Mohammed Adamu following the expiration of his (Adamu) tenure, visited the company of executive council members.

3. Trump leaves criminal court after historic hearing

Donald Trump was seen Tuesday leaving a New York court where he pleaded not guilty to 34 criminal counts from hush money paid to a porn star before the 2016 elections.

Trump was seen exiting the building and making his way to a waiting motorcade just over two hours after arriving at the Manhattan court complex for the historic hearing.

4. Speed up the selection process of new Alaafin, Islamic clerics urge Oyomesi

Two renowned Islamic clerics, Sheikh Muyideen Bello and Sheikh Abdul-Mojeed Alawaye, have called on the kingmakers (Oyomesi) to speed up the selection process of a new Alaafin of Oyo.

The clerics made the calls on Tuesday in their respective sermons at the third edition of Faozey Oladotun Nurudeen Ramadan Lecture, held at Labamba Hotel, Oyo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, joined his ancestors on April 22 at 83, after almost 52 years on the throne.

5. Chrisland: School seeks independent evaluation as late student’s parents set to testify

The parents of Whitney Adeniran, a 12- year-old student of Chrisland  Schools, Lagos, who died on February 9 during the school’s inter-house sports, are set to give evidence at a coroner’s inquest.

The inter-house sports took place at the Agege Stadium, Lagos State.

The couple will testify on April 17 at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court inquest.

The Coroner, Magistrate Olabisi Fajana, disclosed on Tuesday while ruling an application filed by Chrisland  Schools.

6. Ogun APC to Adebutu: Don’t kill yourself over forlorn ambition

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised the defeated governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Mr Oladipupo Adebutu, not to kill himself over his forlorn governorship ambition.

Reacting to media reports which quoted Adebutu as saying, “he might be killed over the outcome of the governorship election held on March 18 2023, and his challenge of same”, the APC, in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Tuesday by its Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, said, “We read with shock the alarm raised by Mr Adebutu that he might be killed over the outcome of the governorship election and his quest to challenge same at the tribunal.

7. Lai Mohammed trying to demarket me, says Obi

Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi said Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed was trying to demarket him.

He said: “I am on record, as always, advocating peace and issue-based campaign, not a campaign based on ethnicity or religion. I am committed to due process and presently seeking redress in court.

“I urge those engaged in this demarketing process to stop presenting Nigeria in such a bad light. Our future generations deserve a new Nigeria where they can live a secure and decent life, like their counterparts in other climes. This is possible.”

In a statement, Obi, who reacted to Mohammed’s allegation of treason and incitement, said he was saddened by the minister’s remarks.

8. Wole Soyinka slams Baba-Ahmed over ‘unbecoming’ outbursts

Nobel Laureate Prof Wole Soyinka has denounced the menacing utterances of the vice-presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed, describing it as unbecoming.

He said the utterance was a gladiatorial challenge directed at the judiciary and, by implication, the rest of the democratic polity.

Baba-Ahmed spoke on the March 22 edition of Politics Today on Channels Television, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chief Justice not to swear in Bola Tinubu, whom INEC declared the president-elect.

9. CSOs call for the release of Anambra whistleblower who exposed rogue police officers

A coalition of 29 civil society groups has called for the release of Nnamdi Emeh, a member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, who revealed the illegal activities of some senior police officers in Anambra State.

The whistleblower, who once worked with the Anambra State Police Command, is believed to have leaked information about the alleged atrocious activities of the police officers to the media.

He has been detained in Abuja since his arrest on March 3, 2023. He is, however, believed to have been recently whisked back to Awka for trial.

10. Police nab kidnappers connected to the murder of village head in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers linked to the killing of Mallam Abubakar Yahaya, the village head of Gusasse in Bosso Local Government Area, after collecting a ransom of N1.5 million.

DAILY POST recalls that on March 15, 2023, at about 11 pm, suspected gunmen attacked Gusasse village via Maikunkele.

According to the Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the assailants shot Abubakar Yahaya, the village head, and kidnapped his daughter to an unknown destination.
