1. We’ve given military freedom to end terrorism—Buhari
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), Tuesday in Abuja, said his regime had given the military “full freedom” to end the insecurity in the country which he called “madness”.
According to a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari was reacting to the recent attacks in Kaduna, Plateau and Sokoto states.
The statement is titled, ‘President Buhari condemns barbaric attacks in Kaduna, Plateau and Sokoto, condoles bereaved families.’
The PUNCH reports that at least 50 persons were abducted by terrorists in Damari, Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Monday; sending hundreds of dwellers out of the community.
2. Buhari hails teenage golfer over championship victory
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), Tuesday, congratulated a 16-year-old Nigerian girl, Iyeneobong Essien, for finishing second at the Champion of Champions World Golf Championship Invitational in Northern Ireland.
President Buhari’s congratulatory message is contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, titled ‘President Buhari congratulates 16-year-old Nigerian golfer success at world golf championship.’
According to Adesina, “The President salutes the achievements of the youngster, who currently tops the junior player cadre in Nigeria, and has been credited with over 20 medals since she won her first medal at the age of five.
“President Buhari joins all Nigerians in celebrating this great teenager who is doing so much for the country by demonstrating that hard work and determination pay, wishing the golfer more spectacular success in her career.”
3. Insecurity: We’re making progress, says Buhari
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), Tuesday in Abuja, said the country was making meaningful progress in taming insecurity through collaboration across borders.
He also said these successes could be consolidated when other states within and outside the Sahel region cooperated to frustrate the activities of terrorist.
The President lamented that Nigeria was battling its fair share of challenges arising from global insecurity, climate change, COVID-19 aftershocks and the ripple effects of the Russia-Ukraine conflict which “has undermined the progress in tackling food security in the last decade.”
According to a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari said these when he received Letters of Credence of the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, James Chrisjtoff and Ambassador of Mexico to Nigeria, Juan Oritz, at Presidential Villa, Abuja.

4. Insecurity: Police ready to clamp down on security challenges in FCT
The FCT Police Command on Tuesday after a round table meeting with Its critical organs and top brass has holistically revamped the security architecture of the territory in other to steeply clamp down on the persistence security challenges and its dynamics within and around the FCT.
According to the Command, “The Revamped architecture will be characterized by voracious intelligence gathering, aggressive vehicular and foot patrol, and intelligence-led stop and search, but to mention a few.
A statement by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Josephine Adeh said, “The commissioner of Police CP Babaji Sunday urged officers and men to go about the discharge of their duties with respect for fundamental human rights, in line with global best practices and professionalism devoid of any form of unwholesome conduct.
He also urged members of the public to observe calm, eschew the promulgation of fake news capable of starring panic and go about their lawful businesses without the fear of harassment or molestation of any kind and from any quarters.
5. Chaos in Benin as residents, drivers protest bad road, vehicles regulation
THERE was chaotic scenes across major roads in Benin City for the better part of yesterday as residents along Sapele Road continued their second day protest against the bad portion of the Sapele by-pass which has created gridlock around the area.
While that was on, all other roads in the city including the Government Reservation Area (GRA) were blocked as drivers of commercial vehicles protested the enforcement of their compliance to the announced state colours implementation for commercial vehicles.
The drivers in their numbers blocked the busy Sapele road, Ring road, Ugbowo road, Aduwawa, First East Circular road and Akpapava to show their grievances.
The state government has directed that Salon cars pay N20, 000 for the colour code and N30, 000 for buses.
6. 10 of 150 northerners intercepted in Ibadan escape, others escorted into Ogun
Ten of the 150 travellers from the North, intercepted by Amotekun Corps in Oyo State, escaped security agents, while the others were escorted into Ogun State, where they said was their destination
Vanguard gathered that the travellers, who were arrested in Bodija market and detained near the axis, were travelling from Zamfara en route Ogere, in Ogun State.
It was also gathered that the 10 took to their heels when they saw the Amotekun personnel.

7. Apprehension as Oyo Amotekun intercepts 140 travellers
There was fear and apprehension in some parts of Ibadan on Tuesday when operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Outfit, otherwise known as Amotekun Corp intercepted 140 suspected northern travellers.
The travellers, 134 males and six females, were seen entering Bodija market around 1pm in a trailer filled with foodstuff to wide jubilation from other northerners.
It was gathered a trader at the plank market, who sighted the truck, alerted officers of the Amotekun Corps and Policemen, who later intercepted them.
Sources said no fewer than 10 of the travellers escaped into the market before the arrival of Amotekun operatives.
8. Dethroned Emir Sanusi, Ganduje reunite after two years
Dethroned Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido, and Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje have met for the first time in two years after the tmonarch was dethroned.
Sanusi was dethroned in March 2020 by the Kano government, citing “total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the Governor”.
The duo in the now-viral video seen by The Nation, met at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Checks by The Nation showed it was the first time the Governor and dethroned Emir would be seen together since 2020.

9. Abuja-Kaduna rail: Nigerian govt gives conditions for resuming operations
Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, on Tuesday, said that appropriate technology would be installed before resuming train operations on Abuja-Kaduna route
Sambo said during a familiarisation visit to the Idu and Kubwa train stations in Abuja that there was a need to guarantee necessary measures were taken to avoid a repeat of the March 28 train attack.
He said, “First and foremost, it’s very important to get those Nigerians that were kidnapped reunited with their families. Otherwise, it’ll be seen as if the government isn’t sensitive.

Joe Aribo has said he left Scottish Premiership club, Rangers to push himself out of his comfort zone.
Aribo enjoyed three successful years at the Ibrox before moving to Premier League club, Southampton last month.
