The Independent National Electoral Commission said on Tuesday that it would migrate some voters from congested polling units in Ekiti State to make voting seamless during the 2023 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Prof. Ayobami Salami, said the move was “to make voting process in 2023 general elections devoid of rigours and stress for voters and as well enhance security”.
Salami, who spoke in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, during a stakeholders’ meeting, called on political parties and other stakeholders in the state to educate the electorate on the new development, which he said would enhance effective electoral system.
He said, “The commission is planning to migrate some voters who fall within the densely populated polling units with the aim of decongesting such polling units and give room for the sparsely populated ones that are within the same cluster or location to be populated.”
A one-stop sexual assault referral centre has been commissioned in Cross River State.
The centre was established by Heartland Alliance Ltd in collaboration with the state Ministry of Women Affairs.
Performing the inauguration on Tuesday in Calabar on behalf of the wife of the state governor, Dr. Linda Ayade, Janet Ekpenyong, said the centre would provide succour for victims of sexual assault.
Ekpenyong, who is the Director General of state Primary Healthcare Development Agency, said Linda Ayade “is an advocate of anything that concerns the welfare of women and children,” hence her support for the centre as she commended Heartland Alliance for the centre and for “playing a great role in ending gender-based violence.”
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Francis Dike, on Tuesday said that insecurity in the South-East zone was politically motivated.

The Federal Capital Police Command on Tuesday said it has invited the Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Michael Akabogu for questioning over a petition alleging that he forged his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Discharge Certificate.
“There was a petition written to the Commissioner of Police against him for NYSC certificate forgery, which we are investigating and we also invited him”, the FCT Police said.
The petition had noted that the NSITF MD discharge certificate with the number A030544, is a forged document resulting in the Police requesting the NYSC authorities to provide clarifications on Akabogu’s certificate.
ANAMBRA State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has signed the state’s 2023 budget of approximately N260 billion into law, saying all sectors in the budget are priorities.
At the signing ceremony at the Governor’s Lodge, Soludo said he will get all the pillars of the budget simultaneously done.

Mr Ezekiel SonAllah, State Sector Commander of FRSC, dismissed the allegation in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Akure.
