1. ECOWAS institute to boost Nigeria’s power grid
An Institution of the Economic Communities Of West African States, West African Power Pool disclosed its plan to boost the Nigerian energy system with a 330KV transmission line from Nigeria to Benin.
According to the Nigerian Coordinator for the ESIA/RAP, Mamoud Abubakar, the interconnection from Nigeria to Benin would help to enhance the reliability of the Nigerian power grid while promoting economic development.
This was made known in a stakeholders’ forum held in Abeokuta, to sensitise the public on the project by ensuring that the relevant quarters such as the stakeholders and the local populace especially are abreast of the information.
Abubakar explained that it was essential to inform the populace of the status of the project to facilitate acceptance and support while discussing the mitigations and compensation measures for the affected communities during the course of the project.
2. 2023: I will lead coalition against Makinde – Adelabu
The Oyo State Accord governorship candidate has said he will lead a coalition against the incumbent state governor, Seyi Makinde, during the 2023 general elections.
Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, also the Agbaakin Parakoyi of Ibadanland, gave the indication at a media parley on Tuesday in Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Adelabu, at the programme unveiled his seven-point agenda “SERVICE”, which he described as the pathway to the state’s greatness.
Adelabu said, “There is a possibility of a coalition against the incumbent governor and I hope to lead the candidates in the coalition.
3. LP campaign council will decide on Okupe’s resignation – Spokesman
The spokesman for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Tanko Yunusa, has said the council is yet to make an official declaration on the resignation of the former Director-General of the council, Doyin Okupe.
This was also as he described as a rude shock the conviction of Okupe for money laundering by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday.
Speaking on Channels Television‘s ‘Politics Today’ on Tuesday, Yunusa added that the PCC was also yet to decide on who to replace Okupe with.

4. FG insists on 3mbpd oil production target amidst serious challenges
The Federal Government has expressed optimism that the country would achieve its daily oil production target of three million barrels soon despite significant challenges posed by oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
The country’s production figures released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, for the month of November 2022 was 1.2 million barrels per day.
But speaking in Abuja, the Minister of State Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, explained that the Federal Government was working to ensure that all local and international oil companies return to full capacity production of crude oil in the country.
5. Govs agree with FG on NIPPPs’ sale
After initial opposition by governors to the sale of the five power plants built under the National Integrated Power Project, the sub-nationals have reached an agreement with the federal government to proceed on the transactions.
The Director-General (D-G) of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) Mr. Alex Okoh, disclosed this during a chat with the media, in Abuja, yesterday.
According to him, the transactions could reach a financial bid opening before the end of the year and that the proceeds would be shared between the federal and state governments.
6. Germany returns 22 Benin Bronzes to Nigeria
The Federal Republic of Germany, Tuesday at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Abuja, handed 22 Benin Bronzes to the Nigerian government. The artifacts, which had stayed outside Nigeria for 125 years, were looted from Benin by the British and over the years, had moved to different countries before arriving in Germany.
The German Government delegation was led by Annalena Baerbock, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Federal Republic of Germany and Claudia Roth, Minister of State for Culture, Federal Republic of Germany.
Speaking at the ceremony, Annalena Baerbock, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said, “we are here to right the wrong. It was wrong to take them; it was also wrong to keep them. The bronzes, she said, are not just objects, they tell stories. They are part of your history. They are part of who you are.”
