1. FG to arrest, prosecute pilgrims that abscond
Nigerian pilgrims to Israel have been warned against any attempt to abscond at this year’s spiritual exercise.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, Rev. Yakubu Pam, has said such a pilgrim will be arrested and prosecuted.
Pam gave the warning at Yola International Airport during the official airlift of over 270 pilgrims from Taraba and Gombe states.
He insisted that whoever absconded would be arrested and prosecuted by the Federal Government.
2. Calm down, Metuh tells Anambra bizman, Arthur Eze
The former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, has advised popular Anambra businessman, Arthur Eze to calm down.
Metuh said this in a Facebook post on Tuesday, following Arthur’s declaration to disassociate himself from the presidential ambition of the Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi to back the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that Eze said he was not part of Obi’s presidential aspiration because he has seen that the former Anambra State governor cannot win votes in the South-West and in the North.
The businessman made the comments in the presence of the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, traditional rulers, women groups and prominent people of the state.
3. Kidnapped vigilante commandant regain freedom after N5m ransom
The newly-elected President-General of Ukwulu Town Union, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, Christopher Uba, has revealed that the community’s vigilante commandant who was recently abducted has regained freedom from his abductors after the payment of N5 million ransom.
The vigilante commandant, Kachy Ilodigwe, was reportedly kidnapped by about four gunmen in November, while returning from a church activity when the armed men double-crossed him with their car and whisked him away.
Uba, while speaking to journalists shortly after he was declared the winner of the election at the Community Civil Centre, Ukwulu, on Tuesday, said the vigilante commandant was released after the payment of the ransom.
He said it was not yet clear why Ilodigwe was kidnapped, adding that after he regained his freedom, he was attacked again and shot by gunmen few days later.

4. Wike: G-5 torn between Tinubu, Labour Party’s Peter Obi
Feelers from the G-5 camp indicate that governors are torn between declaring support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and that of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
A usually reliable source within the G-5 Governors camp who confided in Vanguard, said, “The governors are considering giving their support to either of the two.
“One of the Governors is making a case for Obi but others argue that he lacks the support base to cover the 36 states and Abuja.
“Those in this camp argue that should he emerge victorious we will be returning to square one because he will not enjoy the majority in the National Assembly and thus will find it difficult to pass legislation required for him to make the reforms he has been conversing.
5. We don’t own firms handling contracts in Ondo – Akeredolu’s son
Babajide Akeredolu, son of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has denied insinuations that the contractors handling projects in the state were owned by the first family, stating that the government understudied three different states including Kaduna and Ekiti while designing his office.
Akeredolu disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Lagos recently.
On allegations that the largest chunk of the state’s projects are being executed by the first family, he said, “If you try to justify some things, a lot of people will still have their perception.
6. Bandits devise new means of attack on villagers Niger
Bandits may have devised another means of unleashing terror on their victims in Niger state as Landmines suspected to have been planted by them exploded and injured two villagers.
The incident occurred on Saturday.
The two injured persons, Ezra and Nuhu Dogo were said to be on their way to Afapi from Chukuba village.

7. Slain lawyer was expecting twins, says husband
Lagos lawyer, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, who was killed on Christmas Day by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was expecting twins, her husband Gbenga said on Tuesday.
Bolanle was shot in the chest by the trigger-happy cop at Ajiwe, Ajah while returning home from service with her family.
Her husband relived the ordeal during the visit of the Ikeja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to their Ajah residence.
The Nation learnt that Bolanle, who was four months pregnant, conceived after several failed attempts in six years.
8. Attorney-General to lead prosecution team for expectant lawyer’s killer
Lagos Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) will lead the prosecution team in the trial of the killer of Mrs Bolanle Raheem.
Mrs Raheem, a lawyer and expectant mother, was killed by a policeman on Christmas Day in Lagos while returning from church with her family.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu sent a delegation to the family at their Ajah home on Tuesday.
Onigbanjo said: “We have the permission of Mr Governor to tell you that justice will be done in this matter.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Femi Fani-Kayode has congratulated the newly-appointed Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Prof Akin Oshuntokun.
DAILY POST recalls that following the resignation of Doyin Okupe, the Labour Party on Tuesday appointed the ex-aide to former president Olusegun Obasanjo as the new campaign DG.
Reacting, Fani-Kayode a known critic of the Obidient movement, said Akin has been his close ally for the past 30 years, stressing that the new DG is courageous and brilliant.
He, however, insisted that despite the presence of Akin, the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi would still lose the forthcoming elections.
10. Tragedy hits Calabar Carnival as trailer crushes 3 to death, injures others
More than 20 persons have been injured and many killed following public anger over a reported vehicular accident in Calabar.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Balarabe Sule said, “I cannot confirm the actual number of the death presently but I can confirm that over 20 persons have been injured.
“I have personally helped to evacuate a good number of the injured and some corpses to about three clinics in Calabar.”
Eye witnesses said that more than ten persons including spectators at the ongoing Calabar Carnival were killed when a vehicle lost control and swerved into unsuspecting crowd at the Carnival.
