A special joint military forces have busted a syndicate allegedly siphoning crude oil from the Chevron/NNPC rigs on the high sea in Ondo State.
The special joint forces included, men of the Nigeria Army, Navy, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the men from a private security- the Galaxy Security Services.
It was gathered that two monster boasts used by the syndicate, for their illicit operations, were hidden at different locations within suspended residential raft houses at Awoye Community in Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking on development, one of the Ondo Niger Delta leader and Chief Executive of Galaxy Security Services, High Chief Bibopere Ajube, said the forces tracked the evacuation points of the bunkering syndicate within elephant grasses.
One person was shot dead on Tuesday when policemen attached to the Okokomaiko Division in Lagos State clashed with traders at the Alaba Rago Market, Ojo Local Government of the state.
The police officers visited the market to arrest a suspect but came under attack from the large number of traders.
The PUNCH gathered that the attack led to a clash between both parties.
During the scuffle, one of the police man fired his weapon.
A bill seeking to amend the National Youth Service Corps Act to, among other proposals, make the compulsory one-year national youth service for under-30 graduates optional suffered a setback at the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
The bill, which also seeks to create more allowances for NYSC members and make it optional for someone who graduates at 30 and above to obtain a Certificate of Exemption, failed to pass second reading as it faced stiff opposition, especially from members of the House from the North.
Those who criticised the bill include the Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase (Plateau); Majority Whip, Mohammed Monguno (Borno); Ahmad Jaha (Borno), Leke Abejide (Kogi), among others.
The legislation is titled ‘A Bill for an Act to Amend the National Youth Service Corps Act, Cap. N84 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to Review Upward the Accommodation and Transport Allowances of Corps Members in Line with Current Realities; and for Related Matters.’
As part of its growing desire to integrate technology into Nigeria’s electoral process, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, might, in the foreseeable future, adopt the use of body odour for voter verification.
Some years ago, voters were verified by simply looking at their paper cards and checking the voter register.
In 2012, however, INEC introduced the Smart Card Readers, SCR, to verify the Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, which contained the facials of voters.
It was the period that INEC also used the Automated Facial Identification System, AFIS, to clean up the voter register.
As politicians developed ways of subverting the procedure, the electoral umpire went a step further to introduce the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, which verifies both the facials and the fingerprints.

The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to shut and divert traffic on the Ikorodu bound Service Lane of the state from Monday, January 23, 2023, for a duration of two weeks.
The diversion is part of the ongoing rehabilitation works on the Ojota Interchange to Ojota Second Pedestrian Bridge portion of Ikorodu Road.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to ensure hitch-free and credible 2023 general election.
INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said this when he addressed the press at Chatham House, London, on Tuesday.
Yakubu said that INEC was satisfied with the level of its of preparations for the election, saying that 11 out of 14 activities scheduled for the election had been accomplished.
He, however, said that in spite of extensive preparations, there were still some outstanding issues and challenges of concern, some of which were beyond INEC.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Murtala Muhammed Airport Command (MMAC) in Lagos State has intercepted hard drugs, military and police hardwares.
The consignment were discovered at the cargo section, Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO), of the domestic wing.
Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Sambo Dangaladima announced the interception at a media briefing on Tuesday.
The drugs consist 162 cartons of banned Tramadol hydrochloride 225 and 250mg, military and police hardwares.
The drugs originated from India and Pakistan and were routed through Addis Ababa to Lagos, with an estimated Duty Paid Value (DPV) of nearly N14billion.

Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke -Ogene, in a press statement released in Awka, said the release of the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, would arrest the unrest in the zone.
