1. Buhari reappoints NIPC boss, Umar, for another five-year term
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday, approved the appointment of Saratu Umar as Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission for another term of five years.
This is according to a statement signed late Tuesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, titled ‘President Buhari appoints Hajiya Sarath Uma for another term of five years at NIPC.’
According to Shehu, “Saratu Umar was first appointed to the position in July 2014. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and an MBA in Finance and Banking.
“She is trained locally and internationally in all core aspects of her career, as well as in leadership, strategy, general management, risk management and corporate governance.
2. Osun court remands seven for defacing APC billboards
An Osogbo Chief Magistrate Court, on Tuesday, remanded seven suspected members of a cult group for defacing some campaign billboards belonging to the All Progressives Congress in Osogbo.
The defendants, Azeez Abibu, 29, Musbau Nurudeen, 23, Wasiu Sodiq, 28, Ganiyu Lekan, 27, Azeez Sikiru, 26, Soliu Mohammed, 20, and Ibrahim Mohammed, 21, appeared before the magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko.
Charged on 15 counts bordering on conspiracy, malicious damage, conduct likely to cause breach of peace, unlawful shooting, among others, according to the prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun, the suspects belonged to ‘Aye’ confraternity.
Olusegun said the suspects and others at large bearing dangerous weapons, committed the offence on June 18, 2022, when they damaged some billboards belonging to the APC in Osogbo.
3. We’ve paid over N300m claims to beneficiaries – NSITF
The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund said it had paid over N300m as claims and compensations to beneficiaries in the last four months.
This was made known by the board secretary and General Manager, Mrs Ijeoma Oji-Okoronkwo, who represented the Managing Director, Dr Michael Akabogu, at the NSITF quarterly press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja.
The board secretary said the Fund paid the sum total of N306,55896.23m as claim and compensation, successfully processed a total of 23,455 Employees Compensation Scheme applications from across its 56 branches and issued 22,761 Employee Compensation Certificates.
Oji- Okoronkwo who revealed that most claims paid to beneficiaries were for road accidents, said the newly approved E-NSITF would make more finances available for the compensation of claims requests, increase the contribution of employers to the pool of funds and block all financial and productivity leakages.

4. Why Obi, Kwankwaso alliance talks collapsed – Okupe
The Labour Party temporary Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr Doyin Okupe, said the LP/NNPP alliance talks had collapsed.
Speaking on Channels Television Politics Today programme, Okupe said the merger failed because Kwankwaso of the NNPP insisted on being the presidential flagbearer even when a northern Muslim of same North-West geo-political zone, President Muhammadu Buhari, is about to complete eight years in office.
He said during coalition talks he had asked the NNPP leadership if it was fair to field Kwankwaso, a northerner, of which the NNPP leadership said there was nothing wrong with that.
Okupe revealed that LP is now looking at a young running mate of northern extraction.
Vanguard gathered that Senator Datti Baba Ahmed, 46, from Kaduna State may be picked as Obi’s running mate.
5. Air Peace expands flight operations to China, India
Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, has revealed plans to extend flight operations to Guangzhou, China and Mumbai, India, with scheduled flight operations to this month.
The Spokesperson of Air Peace, Mr Stanley Olisa, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.
Olisa said that Israel flight operations was also underway.
He said these new destinations were further testimony to the airline’s determination to connect Nigerians seamlessly to other parts of the world and deepen socio-economic ties between Nigeria and both countries.
6. 2023: Peter Obi is deceiving Nigerians with lies — Asari Dokubo
The ex-militant Founder of Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, Asari Dokubo, has said Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, is defrauding Nigerians with lies.
Dokubo said this, Tuesday, on Facebook via his Dokubo Asari Justice Foundation page, adding that the OBI-dient movement of the former Anambra State governor cannot succeed “because it is going nowhere”.
Dokubo claimed that Obi cannot contend at the polls against his counterparts from the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP — Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, respectively.
He also downplayed his Obi’s achievements as a governor, saying the money he saved was child’s play to what Governor Nyesom Wike (of Rivers State) spends.

7. Don’t drop Okowa as running mate, Igbo youths warn Atiku, PDP
Igbo youths under the auspices of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide(OYC) have cautioned the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Atiku Abubakar against any plan to drop Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.
There are speculations that Atiku is facing pressures from governors to drop Okowa and replace him with his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike.
Wike’s loyalists are also said to be making the same demand as the only way to make room for peace in the party.
However, in a statement on Tuesday in Enugu, the youths said Atiku should drop Okowa to his peril.
The statement signed by the National President of OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike and the Secretary, Comrade Obinna Achionye said any attempt to replace Okowa would backfire.
8. Catholic Church rejects Lagos’ abortion guidelines
The Catholic Church in Nigeria (Lagos Archdiocese) has rejected the new abortion guidelines in the state.
Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Rev. Adewale Martins described the government’s claim that it consulted all stakeholders in the guidelines’ preparation process as untrue.
The cleric added that the church will not lend itself to any process aimed at terminating the life of a baby in the womb.

9. Dambazau urges security agencies to work together in tackling insecurity
Former Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd), has urged security agencies to work together in tackling insecurity in the country rather than working independently without sharing ideas.
He added that when the physical security and the intelligence security personnel collaborate, security challenges would be tackled to a great extent.
Dambazau stated this in Uyo on Tuesday in his remarks as the session Chairman during ‘Executive Leadership Course in the History and Future of Nigeria,’ organised by the Historical Society of Nigeria and the Peace Building Development Consultants.
The retired military chief also blamed the protracted security challenges in Nigeria on lack of political will even as he urged stakeholders in the security sector to restrategize to be able to arrive at a workable security blueprint for the country.
10. Eid-il-Kabir: Ogun FRSC threatens reckless drivers, deploys 2,000 personnel
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has threatened to prosecute dangerous drivers during the forthcoming Eid-il-Kabir festival.
FRSC said it has deployed 2,000 personnel to man critical corridors across Ogun State so as to stem the tide of road crashes during the celebration.
To guarantee safe travels for all road users before and after the 2022 Eid celebration, the FRSC in Ogun said it would commence a special patrol operation on Wednesday.
This special operation, DAILY POST learnt, is organized to avert “the chaos that characterized the road during such celebrations.”
Spokesperson of the FRSC in Ogun, Florence Okpe, said in a statement that the special operations would focus on, “use of phone while driving; wrongful overtaking; excessive speed; seat belt violation; passengers’ manifest by commercial vehicles; dangerous driving and use of alcohol while driving.”
