1. Owo attack: Women group asks FG to end killings

A coalition of over 500 women organisations, under the aegis of Womanifesto, on Tuesday, tabled a five-point demand for the government to swing into action and address the menace of killings in Nigeria.

The women, who were reacting to the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, in Ondo State by terrorists, which led to over 35 casualties, therefore gave the government about one-month ultimatum (July 5, 2022), to do something about their demands or face any consequence for the preservation of the lives of Nigerian citizens.

The Convener of Womanifesto and Executive Director of Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre, Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, raised these issues in a statement on behalf of the 500 groups titled, “Womanifesto condemns the killing, gives Nigerian government four weeks ultimatum to address the incessant killings.”

Among the 500 groups included Action Aid Nigeria, Bring Back Our Girls, 100 Women Lobby Group, Yiaga Africa, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Christian Women in Nigerian Politics, International Federation of Women Lawyers, HEIR Women Development, Nigeria Labour Congress (Women Committee), Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative, Nigerian Women Trust Fund and Nigeria Association of Women Journalists.

2. Cross River PFN to mobilise one million votes for gov candidate

The Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Cross River State, Dr Lawrence Ekwok, has said a minimum of one million votes would be mobilised among member churches of the PFN in support of any governorship candidate the fellowship endorses in the 2023 general elections.

He made the promise during the 2022 PFN Pentecost Service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (House of David), Calabar.

Ekwok said the commitment and backing of key leaders of the pentecostal churches in the state has been secured to ensure that the goal is achieved.

He told the gathering, including all the key leaders of churches in the state, “It is a task that can be accomplished,” considering the votes fact that the winner of the 2019 governorship election in the state had a figure that one of the mega churches can easily produce.

3. APC ward chairman commits suicide in Kogi

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Ponyan Ward, Yagba East Local Government Area, Kogi State, Bunmi Ipinnaiye, has reportedly committed suicide in a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps cell.

Ipinnaiye was arrested by men of the NSCDC for the attempted murder of his son, who was said to be fraternising with some boys who were allegedly involved in social vices.

Our Reporter gathered that the deceased had attacked his son with a machete on their way to the farm and the incident was reported to the Civil Defence, which led to his arrest.

A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity said upon interrogation, the late APC chairman refused to respond to questions and was left in one of the rooms in the security outfit office.

4. We must put our house in order to survive beyond 2023 – APC Chairman

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, says the outcome of Tuesday’s convention of the party will determine its electoral victory in 2023.

Adamu gave the warning in his remarks at the opening of the APC National Convention at the Eagle Square on Tuesday in Abuja.

He equally warned that the party must reconcile all aggrieved members across the country so as to ensure electoral victory for the party in the forthcoming general elections in 2023.

Adamu also urged members of the APC to put their house in order if the party must survive beyond 2023, saying the party is supreme to individual or group interests.

5. APC Presidential Primary: I’ll accept result in good faith – Yerima

Former Gov. Ahmad Yerima of Zamfara and a presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has promised to accept the outcome of Tuesday’s presidential primary of the party in good faith.

Yerima told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Eagle Square venue of the APC Special National Convention that he was hopeful of getting the party’s ticket at the end of the event

”I hope that I will be the winner, but whatever happens, it is the will of Allah.

”Nobody else came give power to individuals except Allah.

6. Police impound 130 bikes, arrest 5 persons in Lagos

The Police Command in Lagos State said it arrested five persons and impounded 130 motorcycles at Idi-Araba area of Mushin on Tuesday.

The command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in his Twitter handle on Tuesday.

Sources, however, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the arrest and seizures caused a skirmish between commercial motorcyclists and operatives of the taskforce on environmental offences, who were in the area to enforce the ban of okada on some roads.

The Lagos State Government on June 1, began the enforcement of banned motorcycle operations in some locations in the state.

7. Jigawa APC delegate slumps, dies in Abuja

One of Jigawa All Progressive Congress (APC) delegates, Alhaji Isah Baba Buji, has died while attending the presidential primary of the party in Abuja.

He slumped and died reportedly of suspected heart failure on Tuesday morning at Jigawa State Liason Office in Abuja.

The deceased was Assistant APC chairman in charge of Jigawa central zone.

He was said to have slumped while getting ready to go to Eagle Square, venue of the primary with other delegates from the State.

Jigawa APC Public Relations officer Malam Bashir Kundu confirmed the incident.

8. EFCC operatives storm Eagle Square

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrived Eagle Square, venue of the All Progressives Congress(APC) presidential primary.

They arrived the Eagle Square around 3.30pm and were seen walking roundin a group.

The anti- graft agency was also at the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

9. Gunmen kill 25 people, raze houses in Kaduna community

Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked five communities in Kajuru LGA of Kaduna State on Sunday, and killed 25 persons.

They also razed several houses, livestock and valuables

Spokesman of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, Luka Biniyat, in a statement on Tuesday, mentioned the villages as; Maikori, Dogon Noma, and Ungwan Doma, among others, adding that the incident happened between 1am and 2 pm on Sunday.

The statement further said 16 persons were killed in Maikori village, while the entire community was burnt down completely

According to the statement, an Evangelical Church Winning for All, ECWA, was burned by the attackers, and about 10 people were killed in the Dogon Noma village alone.

10. Owo church attack: Establish state, local police to maintain law, order – MUSWEN tells FG

The Muslim Ummah of South West of Nigeria (MUSWEN), the umbrella body of Muslims from the South West region has called for the establishment of local and state police.

MUSWEN noted that this is necessary in order to address various security challenges and ensure the maintenance of law and order in the country.

Our correspondent recalls that a Catholic church in Owo, in Ondo state, the hometown of governor Rotimi Akeredolu was on Sunday attacked by a yet-to-be-identified gunman.

It was gathered that several people lost their lives while many were injured as a result of the incident.

But, MUSWEN in its reaction, said that there is a need for the government to establish State and Local Government Police.
