1. EFCC urges court to dismiss Bello’s application on forfeited property

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday urged the Federal High Court in Lagos to dismiss an application by the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to vacate a forfeiture order in respect of 14 properties and N400 million.

The PUNCH reports that the court had on February 22, 2023, granted a preservation order of the properties linked to the Kogi State Government and reasonably suspected to have been derived from unlawful activities, according to Sections 9 and 10 of the Proceeds of Crimes (Recovery and Management) Act, 2022.

According to the EFCC, the properties, including Hotel Apartment Community, Burj Khalifa lying, being and situate at, Plot 160 Municipality NO 345-7562, Sky View Building No 1, Property No 401, Floor 4, Dubai U.A.E., were reasonably suspected to have been derived from unlawful activity.

At the resumed sitting on Tuesday, counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi Oyedepo, informed the court that the anti-graft agency had advertised the preservation order in a national daily, according to a statement by the spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren.

2. Borno PDP senatorial candidate writes INEC to probe officials

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Borno Central Senatorial District election, Muhammed Kumaila, has implored the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission to investigate an alleged attempt by its officials to tamper with evidence to be presented before the Election Petitions Tribunal.

Kumaila said his team had already petitioned the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Directorate of State Security Services to investigate the matter and bring culprits to book.

“We therefore call on you sir, to undertake an urgent and independent investigation into this matter, in order to fish out bad eggs from within the INEC administration who are hell bent on tarnishing the image of the electoral umpire,” he stated.

According to him, following the outcome of the election, which he lost to the candidate of All Progressives Congress, Kaka Shehu Lawal, he filed a petition before the Election Petitions Tribunal in Maiduguri.

3. Russia-Ukraine crisis wakeup call for Africa on food sufficiency – Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday in London, UK, said the lingering crisis between Russia and Ukraine should be a wake-up call for African states to prioritise self-sufficiency in food production.

He also said digitisation remains Africa’s best opportunity to make considerable progress in the global scheme of things.

“The economic fallout of the war for us in Africa should be an introspective moment on the issue of self sufficiency in food production,” Osinbajo told a large audience comprising academics, scholars, researchers, faculty and students of the Africa Leadership Centre, King’s College London.

5. Delta House of Assembly suspends LG boss over alleged financial mismanagement

The Delta House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended the Chairman, Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Mr Juan Governor, for alleged financial mismanagement.

The suspension came on the heels of an impeachment notice signed by 15 councillors and forwarded to the house.

The councillors had asked the house for approval to remove the council boss.

The impeachment notice was read by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Christopher Ochor, who presided over the plenary.

6. 2023 polls would have consumed Nigeria but for prayers – OAIC

The Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC)has attributed the successful conclusion of the 2023 general elections without national disintegration to the prayers of the body of Christ.

Nigeria, it said, would have disintegrated going by the tension and rancour that greeted the polls if the church didn’t preserve in prayers.

The body called on Nigerians to put the bitter acrimony that characterized the polls behind and cooperate to push the nation forward.

These were the resolutions of the OAIC after its REC meeting at the Cherubim & Seraphim Movement Church, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State from March 22-23.

7. Transition process on course, Buhari not spending a day extra – SGF

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, says the transition process to hand over to the newly elected government is on course.

Mustapha, who is also the Chairman of Presidential Transition Council, gave the assurance on Tuesday at a news conference to brief journalists on the updates of the transitional process since the committee was inaugurated.

The Federal Government on April 14 inaugurated a 22-man Presidential Transition Council ahead of the 2023 handover to the incoming government.

8. Tinubu nominates Bagudu, Edun into Transition Council

The President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has nominated Kebbi Governor Atiku Bagudu and former Lagos Commissioner for Finance, Mr Olawale Edun, as members of the Presidential Transition Council (PTC).

Chairman of the PTC and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, announced this on Tuesday during the maiden briefing by the Council.

He also said the Council, which was inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari on February 14 has commenced executing its numerous tasks.

Buhari, under Executive Order 14, which was signed on February 7, set up the 24-member Council, including two nominees of the President-elect.

9. 51 Nigerians evacuated from Libya

The Federal Government and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have evacuated another batch of stranded Nigerians in Libya.

According to Ambassador Kabiru Musa, Charge D’affaires of the Nigerian Mission in Libya, who issued a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, a total of 151 citizens were flown from Benghazi, as the government resumed its voluntary evacuation.

The evacuees, including 71 females, 54 males, 14 children and 13 infants, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, tonight

10. Abia: PDP to challenge declaration of Alex Otti winner of guber election

The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Working Committee and the enlarged State Executive Committee on Tuesday decided to go to court to challenge the result of the Abia Governorship election which declared the Labour Party candidate, Alex Otti as winner, especially in six Local Government Areas where the BIVAS machines were not used.

This was disclosed in a statement by Hon. Elder Abraham Amah, the Abia PDP Vice Chairman/Acting State Publicity Secretary, today.

DAILY POST reports that this is coming less than a week after Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor of Abia State, had congratulated Otti for winning the governorship election in the state.
