1. No going back on Lagos Okada ban -Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday said the state government will go ahead with its proposed ban on motorcycles on highways and six local governments and nine Local Council Development Areas from June 1.

He said security services and Lagos State Government are on the same page with respect to the banning of motorcycles in the selected areas of the State.

Governor Sanwo-Olu spoke to journalists, on Tuesday evening, after the State Security Meeting, held at the Lagos House, Ikeja, which was attended by heads of security services in the State.

The governor said his administration in conjunction with security agencies will ensure that the security architecture of the state is not compromised in any way so that Lagos residents will continue to live their lives and do their business without any fear or favour.

2. No fresh plane crash in Lagos -LASEMA

The Lagos State Emergency Agency has debunked reports that a plane crash-landed in the Ikeja area of the state on Tuesday.

The agency officials noted that “nothing of such happened” when contacted by our correspondent on the telephone.

There had been reports that a plane crash-landed in Ikeja, causing panic among road users on Tuesday night.

Footages of a plane were also circulated on social media.

3. You can’t win with violence, Oyetola tells PDP

The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Tuesday, warned the Peoples Democratic Party against stoking violence ahead of the July 16 governorship poll.

Oyetola, who spoke in Otan Ayegbaju, during a campaign rally, said it was clear people of the state had rejected the PDP, and added that the PDP could not win back the support of the electorate by indulging in violence.

He said, “I want to use this opportunity to warn the PDP in the state against taking the residents of the state for granted by their continuous violence toward the Osun gubernatorial poll. It is obvious that the state is against them, they must not use violence to win the heart of the electorate. Voting is not by violence.

“Osun residents are the landlord while we, the politicians, are tenants. The PDP’s violent actions in the state are a pointer that they want to chase their landlords away. This is unfortunate! I will continue to see to your security and welfare all the time.”

He advised the electorate not to allow any candidates who lacked governance capacity to run the affairs of a state as delicate as Osun State in the coming year.

4. PDP Primaries: Dekor wins Reps Ticket

The member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Robinson Dekor has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Primaries conducted on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the popular Suanu Finimale Nwika Conference Hall, Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area, which also doubles as the traditional headquarters of the Ogoni people and Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency.

Rt. Hon. Dekor who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Host Communities in the House of Representatives clinched the party’s ticket following the overwhelming votes garnered from the delegates in the primaries that were supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The elated federal lawmaker who is also the former Deputy Speaker in the Rivers State House of Assembly thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to let them down.

In his words, “I want to especially thank the Executive Governor of the state, Chief (Barr) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for his support and fatherly leadership which enabled us to have free, fair and credible primaries across the state. I also thank you, the delegates for having to stay here for hours. You have continued to demonstrate the confidence and love you have in me. For this, I say a very big thank you”.

5. PDP Primaries: Abba Moro wins, says it’s victory for people of Benue South

Senator Abba Moro has said his victory and emergence as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Tuesday’s Benue South Senatorial District primary election was for the people of the area.

Moro who is the incumbent Senator representing the district in the National Assembly, stated this shortly after he was declared winner of the election in Otukpo amid celebration by his supporters.

He defeated three other aspirants to clinch the ticket after polling a total of 179 votes while his closest rival, Hassan Saleh garnered 72 votes. The two other aspirants, Joseph Ojobo and Bright Ogaji polled 53 and 3 votes respectively.

According to the lawmaker, his victory was not about him but the people of Benue South District.

He urged other aspirants that lost to join hands with him to work for the progress and prosperity of the Senatorial District.

6. HND graduates more relevant to economic growth — Ospoly rector

Rector, Osun State Polytechnic, Dr Woye Olaniran on Tuesday, said graduates of Higher National Diploma (HND) are more relevant to endear economic growth of any country due to their academic curriculum.

Speaking at a press conference to herald the Institution’s 7th combined convocation held in Osogbo, the rector said polytechnic students are more economically productive than their counterparts from the Universities.

He added that graduates of polytechnic are considered for employment ahead of their University mates due to the practical emphasis of their study.

“I don’t emphasise dichotomy. HND holders used to get jobs faster than the B.sc holders because of their experience while in school. The focus of Polytechnic education is practical much more than theory which is why polytechnic graduates are more relevant when talking about the technological development of any nation.

7. Suspended Accountant-Gen became political appointee in 2021

Facts have emerged showing why embattled Accountant General of the Federation who is currently a guest of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stayed in office after he served out his term as AGF and also attained the retirement age of 60 years.

The Nation was told that “he retired from service in 2021 as a civil servant but was reappointed as a political appointee”.

An official at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) confirmed that Ahmed Idris’ reappointment letter was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) thus making him a political appointee.

8. Court adjourns PDP’s suit for Supreme Court’s decision in Buhari’s case against Section 84 (12) of EA

A Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned till June 28 for parties in a suit by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the provision of Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act, 2022 to report on the outcome of a similar suit by President Muhammmadu Buhari before the Supreme Court.

The PDP, in the suit FHC/ABJ/CS/247/2022, seeks to restrain the National Assembly from giving effect to the request by President Buhari to delete Section 84(12) of the Electoral Amendment Act, 2022.

Justice Inyang Ekwo chose the date after lawyer to the plaintiff, Joseph Daudu (SAN) noted that the hearing of the suit was dependent on the outcome of the one before the Supreme Court filed by President Buhari and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).

9. Ethiope PDP ticket: Ben Igbakpa alleges muscling after losing to Ibori’s daughter

Ben Igbakpa, the House of Representatives member for Ethiope Federal Constituency has spoken on his defeat.

The incumbent lost the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu.

Erhiatake is the daughter of James Ibori, a former Governor and Delta politics honcho.

On Mondays, Igbakpa and Erhiatake tied at 34 votes each at the primary election held at the Oghara Township stadium.

At the re-run on Tuesday, Igbakpa polled 22 votes while Erhiatake got 46.

10. Ogun: Abiodun commissions Pansheke-Adigbe-Opako road in Abeokuta metropolis

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, on Tuesday, officially inaugurated the 3km Panseke-Adigbe-Opako Road within the Abeokuta metropolis.

The road which traverses Abekouta South, Obafemi-Owode and Ewekoro LG, was one one the roads started but abandoned by the immediate past administration in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at the popular Panseke Junction, Abiodun described the event as symbolic, as the road was one of the inherited road projects from his predecessor’s administration.

He further described the project as fulfilment of his administration’s promise to the people of Ogun state.
