1. Lagos APC Reps aspirants canvass votes for Tinubu

A forum of aspirants for the House of Representatives in Lagos State under the All Progressives Congress has expressed determination to work with other party stakeholders to ensure maximum votes for the party’s candidates in the 2023 elections.

The group, under the aegis of the 2023 House of Representatives Aspirants forum, made the resolution on Sunday at a meeting in Ikeja, Lagos.

This was contained in a statement made available to The PUNCH on Tuesday.

Specifically, members of 2023 HORAF, resolved to work assidiously for the victories of the APC presidential flagbearer, Bola Tinubu, and the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is standing for re-election.

2. Lagos govt probes Victoria Island building fire

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it has recovered the remains of a male adult from the fire that occurred at Plot 1114, Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

This is contained in a statement released by the agency and signed by its Director, Mrs Magaret Adeseye, on Tuesday in Lagos.

She said that additional reports would be made available to the public as soon as investigation into the cause of the incident is completed.

The service boss said that the fire ensued from an industrial generator that burst into flames, adding that the fire service was notified of the incident at about 10.03 am.

3. Travellers kidnapped on Ekiti road regain freedom

The four travellers abducted along the Iyemero Ekiti – Irele Ekiti Road in the Ajoni Local Council Development Area of Ekiti State regained their freedom on Tuesday after spending two nights in the kidnappers’ den.

The four passengers, who were, on Sunday morning, returning to Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, from Kogi State where they had attended an event, were waylaid by no fewer than seven arms-bearing men, who took them to the bush.

A source told journalists on phone from Irele Ekiti that the four victims were released in a forest in Iyemero Ekiti in the Ajoni LCDA.

Another source, who said that the gunmen called the families of the victims in Ibadan and demanded N10 million ransom, said that the victims’ release was secured after intense negotiations and pleading which culminated in reduction of the amount.

4. Flooding: No cause for panic, no food shortage in 2023 –  Minister assures

THE Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Mohammad Abubakar, Tuesday, assured Nigerians of availability of food in 2023 and no need for panic amid devastation of flood across the country.

Abubakar stated this during a media conference held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, while speaking on the move by his Ministry to ameliorate plight of farmers occasioned by the flood.

Sympathizing with farmers and other Nigerians who are adversely affected by the flood he said government would do everything to soothe their pain.

5. Africans must come together for prosperous continent – Obasanjo

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed the need for Africans to come together for greater prospects of the continent.

Obasanjo made this disclosure in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday, when he led two Nigerian Governors, four industrialists, security and energy experts among others on investment drive to the Central African country, with request from President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.

In a statement by Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi in Kinshasa, Obasanjo emphasised that there was need for Africans to come together for the greater prospects of the continent irrespective of their countries.

At the International Business Forum organized by the Makutano Network for the visiting team, Obasanjo said it was imperative to understand that African investors should tap into the potentials in Congo.

6. Tinubu ‘ll change Nigeria’s fortune for good – Abiodun

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has declared that the fortune of Nigeria will change for good, if Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerges the president next year.

Abiodun made this declaration in an interview with newsmen after attending a town hall meeting and interactive session with business community and the organized private sector, organised for Tinubu/Shettima presidential team, held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The governor noted that Tinubu and Shettima, having been governors of Lagos and Born States respectively, have the requisite knowledge and experience that could transform the country for good.

He described members of the team selected from every part of the country as highly skilled, knowledgeable and experienced individuals who are ready to hit the ground running for the good of the nation.

7. Wike donates 25 buses to Benue PDP campaign team, says Ortom

Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers has donated 25 buses to the campaign team of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue, according to Gov Samuel Ortom

Ortom, who disclosed this on Tuesday in Makurdi during the inauguration of the party’s campaign council, said that each of the 23 local governments would get a bus.

“Wike has also promised to be in Makurdi for the flag-off of the campaigns slated for Monday,” Ortom said.

He thanked Wike for always standing with Benue people both in good and bad moments.

He said that if the Presidential candidate of the party addresses the challenges rocking the party, all PDP members would work together to rescue Nigeria, declaring that he had no issues with any candidate of the party.

8. Senate expresses reservation on Mambila power project

The Senate on Tuesday expressed reservation over the actualisation of the Mambila power project, describing it as a mirage.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, Sen.Gabriel Susuwan(PDP-Benue) said this at the 2023 budget defence of government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) under the Ministry of Power in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said that the project was a mirage as far as National Assembly was concern because money has been budgeted for many years and there was nothing on ground .

He said the initial scope of the project was slightly about 3,000 megawatts, saying that there were issues.

“We were told that it was going to be re-scoped, even the re-scoping of the project has not been done.

9. Ogun: PDP expels Jimi Lawal, others

The Peoples Democratic Party has expelled one of its governorship aspirants in Ogun State, Mr Jimi Lawal.

Lawal was expelled alongside some other leaders of the party earlier suspended for organising an “illegal primary election” against the wish of the party.

Others expelled from the party are the Chairman of Ijebu North East, Aremo Tope Ashiru; Ademola Ojoye; Ms Fatimo Sobanire; Mrs Adenike Asorona; Muyiwa Odebiyi and Moruf Olajide.

The State Financial Secretary of the PDP, Bola Odumosu, who was accused of writing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogun, asking it to attend the said primary election, has its punishment kept at bay.

10. Why Uzodinma is working with Malami, APC cabals not to release Nnamdi Kanu – IPOB alleges

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has linked the continued incarceration of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu to Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State.

IPOB alleged that Uzodinma was working with the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to ensure Kanu was not released.

Emma Powerful, the spokesman of IPOB, alleged that Uzodinma advised Malami the All Progressives Congress, APC, cabals against releasing Kanu because he was a security risk to them.

A statement by Powerful reads partly: “Uzodinma advised Malami and his APC co-conspirators that our leader, KANU is a security risk and that they must attach conditions to his release.
